The Giottos MH-1300 Pro Series II Large Ballhead with MH-657 Quick Release System is a large "socket & ball" head that is strong enough to support the heaviest of professional SLR cameras. It has been carefully designed and manufactured to precisely position the camera easily and securely.

In order to cut back on its weight, this head features a hollowed out heavily anodized aluminum ball. The body shell (socket) follows a slimmer and lighter structure design, yet offers increased hardness. Three separate knobs provide optimal security and convenience. In addition to the main locking knob, it also features a friction control knob, and a separate locking knob for pan control.

The attached MH-657 is a clamp style quick release system that is compatible with plates that fit the Arca Swiss standard. It comes with horizontal and vertical bubble levels, and anti-twist reversible tabs on the plate to prevent slippage when using the head in a vertical position.

this is an awesome ball-head with one flaw(at least on mine... the release button isn't engineered very well, it sticks. other than that small agrivation I really like it,. The action is buttery smooth, and when you tighten up the lock, it is rock solid

Comments about Giottos MH-1300 Pro Series II Ballhead with MH-657 Quick Release:

For the price you can't beat it. I use it with a D800 with 70-200mm zoom and occasionally with a 2x extender. It is the perfect solution to rock solid holding. I would't want the ball any larger (heavier) or smaller (less holding power). The only negative that I can think of is the bubble balance is hidden with you add the plate to the ball head. This isn't a big problem as my tripod has a level.

It's sturdy and well built for the price. mounted nikon D800 with battery grip + Nikon 70-200 and 24-70 lenses, and it does the job with no sweat. Only thing though, when using portrait orientation (meaning ballhead sideways) on my 24-70 nikon lens, the ballhead has the tendency to rotate, I don't recommend it this way though.

I use this on my Induro CF tripod and am extremely pleased with it. As an experiment I put my 4.5 pound Sigma 150-500mm lens on my Nikon D800e and attached the camera to the ballhead (not to the lens collar). The Induro locked down easily and the camera with lens was completely stable at all angles. I'd highly recommend this ballhead.

Comments about Giottos MH-1300 Pro Series II Ballhead with MH-657 Quick Release:

I am impressed with the initial quality and feel of this ballhead. I bought it along with a set of Vanguard Alta Pro 263 AT legs which seem to be a good match for it. I shoot with 70s-era SLRs and wanted plenty of load capacity (the weight ratings at this price point are laughable, I cut them in half, at least for my needs) I do not find the weight excessive for my type of shooting which consists mostly of landscapes, portraits and macro. I am used to packing a 5.5 - 6 lb. tripod head/legs combo and prefer the extra stability that it can provide. The bullseye levels leave a bit to be desired, but are in line with the price point. For panoramic shooting I go with a 3-way hot shoe level anyways. The separate panning lock is handy, as is the separate friction knob. I also appreciate the little red feet on the QR plate that prevent the camera/lens combo from slipping in portrait orientation. That was a big selling point for me as I have had trouble with my old QR plate and camera slippage. I will see how it does over an extended testing period and report back.

I've read many user reviews and thought I'd give this head a try, glad I did, worth every penny and more in my opion.

Comments about Giottos MH-1300 Pro Series II Ballhead with MH-657 Quick Release:

This is a solid ball head. Very compact and well made. The only criticism that I have is that the knob that releases the quick release plate should not loosen so much that it releases the plate entirely. There is a red button safety that you have to push to let the plate fully release, but if you loosen the knob too much (just about a half turn) then the plate is fully released (rendering the safety button useless). If you loosen too much the camera could fall off the head.

Nice heavy duty, stable ball head. I needed to purchase a strong stable ballhead that can support my camera with flash and zoom lens. My previous tripod with included mount couldn't support my gear, until I got this product. This ballhead is awesome. I've had my camera in all different angles, no sag or droop whatsoever. This ballhead is a must have!

I had tried various tripod heads and for using a DSLR, this head is absolutely terrific. I like it because it holds the camera (Nikon D800) rock-steady regardless of the load/lens. The ball action is also smooth for videography. The panning is smooth and flawless. It makes using a tripod a lot of fun and you do not go broke with this unit. It was a great accessory to my Manfrotto 190 CXPro tripod.

After receiving poor customer service from Manfretto I did my research on a new ballhead for my tripod. I chose the Giotto MH1300-657 Quick release as a replacement. It is working fabulous and is very easy to use. It holds my Nikon D90 in place and quickly maneuvers around.

Comments about Giottos MH-1300 Pro Series II Ballhead with MH-657 Quick Release:

I wanted a decent ball head that wouldn't break the bank for a budget set of Manfrotto 290 aluminum legs. This product looked good, sounded good and had great reviews so I gave it a shot. I was very pleased with the product out of the box and during its initial use. However, after about six months of casual use now the rotating base plate has developed some play. I'm not sure if this "looseness" can be adjusted out by tightening something inside. I haven't been able to find a way to do it. The ball head is rated for 20 pounds and hasn't seen anything heavier than a Canon 5D with a 70-300mm zoom lens attached. I'm considering sending it back to Giottos before the one year warranty is up. I really do like this head otherwise. Based on my initial experience and other reviews, I would still recommend this product.

Comments about Giottos MH-1300 Pro Series II Ballhead with MH-657 Quick Release:

Months ago I noticed Art Morris recommended this rather small ballhead on his Bird As Art site. Some time ago I misplaced a Manfrotto ballhead and never replaced it untile I was in Seattle recently and found this particular combination which is not available in Canada?? It really surprised me. It is far more sturdy and sure than my Manfrotto head with a ball nearly twice the diameter. I use it mostly for portraits and landscapes with a 1D body and <100mm primes. I'm sure it would easily handle a 70-200 lens as well provided it was mounted on the foot. Based on the quality of this head, I will now make a point of looking at Giottos products when looking for other accessories

I bought this ball head because it has a locking knob for taking panoramic photos. Based on price and other reviews from B&H it was a very good buy. Has worked great so far.

This ballhead hold my 7D very securely. I'm not sure I prefer the screw slamp over the lever clamp, but the screw clamp on this head does have great holding power. The QR bracket's corners are a little sharp, but the little red 'feet' on top keep the it from rotating on the camera.

                              Overall I am very pleased.

I like everything about this head. It matches my Manfrotto 055XProB tripod well and holds a Canon 5D with 70-200mm lens without sagging.
