The Giottos MH-3300 Pro Series II Extra Large Ballhead with MH-658 Quick Release System is a "socket & ball" head that is strong enough to support the heaviest of professional SLR cameras. It has been carefully designed and manufactured to precisely position the camera easily and securely.

In order to cut back on its weight, this head features a hollowed out heavily anodized aluminum ball. The body shell (socket) follows a slimmer and lighter structure design, yet offers increased hardness. Three separate knobs provide optimal security and convenience. In addition to the main locking knob, it also features a friction control knob, and a separate locking knob for pan control.

The attached MH-658 is a 3.4" (86mm) long clamp-style quick release system that is compatible with plates that fit the Arca Swiss standard. It comes with horizontal and vertical bubble levels, and anti-twist reversible tabs on the plate to prevent slippage when using the head in a vertical position.

Comments about Giottos MH-3300 Pro Series II Ballhead with MH-658 Quick Release:

this ballhead is really nice. Locks in easily and solidly. There is a drag in case you have a heavy lens on it won't be getting away and flop down on you. This is NOT for video (no handle), but hard to beat for a camera unless you have a flimsy tripod. I would suggest mating this with a robust tripod. LOVE IT!

Very well machined. I bought the MH-3300 at the same time as my Kirk BL-9800 L-bracket, but they do not mate well. Though both are supposed to be Arca-Swiss compatible they just barely hold together. I intend to replace the L-bracket.

I use this head on a Konova K5 slider. All ball heads are a bit scary in that it only takes a little slack in the head clamp to allow your camera to tilt or drop. The Giottos ball head is ridiculously strong when locked. The controls feel "luscious" for a lack of a better word. Overall, very impressed with this product.... especially for the price.

The Giottos MH-3300 is one of the most rock solid heads I have ever had. The panning is smooth and and the friction adjustment is great for larger lenses. I use this ball head to support long lenses during wildlife photography.

I gave it 4 stars because it is a little heavy but not unmanageable. At 1/4 the cost of a comparable RRS this ball head is a steal!

Great head. The knobs are easy to grab and turn. The ball does not slip with a camera, flash and large lens (sigma 150 macro). Only complaint is the weight but what can you do.

Comments about Giottos MH-3300 Pro Series II Ballhead with MH-658 Quick Release:

This ballhead is very stable with large DSLRs and medium format cameras. The knobs are big and easy to turn, and placed logically. This is replacing a Bogen 490 Maxi Ball Head in my set up- the Giottos is far smoother, and doesn't bind, like the Bogen did. The quick release isn't a perfect fit for my Kirk L plate- it takes more than a quarter turn to slide it out. And the safety stop can get in the way. But when the quick release knob is tight, the camera is firmly attached.

This sits atop my MTL9371B tripod. This is a large ballhead, but I wanted it to support a gripped 5DII and a 1DIII. It does with ease, though I'm not using super teles right now. The ball action is very smooth, the friction can be adjusted to just the right point, and the lock is secure. There is an azimuth scale at the base for precise panning. The 658 quick release makes changing cameras a snap - it comes with one QR plate; get additional QR plates for your other cams. The base also has a notch to drop the camera to portrait orientation without need for an L bracket.

I use the ball head with a Sony a900 and a 300mm F2.8 lens. The tension can be adjusted so that the friction will hold the lens in place but you can move the lens. When locked the lens is held in place. The only draw back is that the bulls eye level is under the quick release plate.

Comments about Giottos MH-3300 Pro Series II Ballhead with MH-658 Quick Release:

I needed a head to support some heavy hardware but didn't want to spend a fortune. The MH-3300 fits the bill perfectly. Even with my K20D, battery grip and a Sigma 100-300 (with TC) once I lock it, it stays there. Movement is pretty smooth all around as well once adjusted properly. The plate gives you a number of mounting options as well. The reason for 4 stars is it's a pretty heavy head. If I had wanted to spend a lot more $$, I could have gotten a lighter head but it's a trade off that I was willing to make. It's paired up with a Giottos MT-9370 so the head and legs come close to 9 lbs but it's rock steady no matter how hard the winds blow.

Comments about Giottos MH-3300 Pro Series II Ballhead with MH-658 Quick Release:

I was thinking really hard about buying the traditional Arca-Swiss or even the Really Right Stuff ballheads, but I just couldn't see spending that kind of money on a ballhead. Yet I didn't want to get something flimsy or cheap either.

I decided to try the Giottos MH-3300 Pro Series II Ballhead and wow is it even better than I had hoped. Sturdy as a rock, smooth, and extremely versatile, this is truly a value for the money and I recommend it highly.
