The CameraBright X1-ER+ Extended Range Plus provides a continuous lightsource to any camera that features a tripod screw. Today's digital still cameras have the ability to take excellent videos and movies. However, at best they only feature a flash unit, which only works for a split-second. When taking videos, you need a light to come on and stay on. CameraBright lights are designed to turn on and stay on while you take your video.
The advanced technology built into every CameraBright light ensures continuous, simple, single button operation; push the button once to turn the unit on, and push the button again to turn the unit off. If you forget to turn the unit off, it will turn itself off in a matter of minutes, thereby ensuring a great video next time.
This version is an Extended Range Version, which provides a narrower beam that has an effective illumination range almost twice that of the other versions (up to 20'). In addition, this Plus version also features a metal tripod screw, which makes it more ideal for use with heavier cameras (over 2 lbs).

Purchase it after reading some of the reviews.[...] I started with it right away as I have an upcoming event I need it for. It works like a very light fill flash up close in daylight with out causing red eyes so that's nice. But you have to really look at the difference to catch it, its not bright and doesn't distort light colors because of that. It's not bright enough to sub for your flash though so don't buy for that, it's a special use niche and fills in nice where you'd like to maybe use a reflective screen to fill and didn't have anyone to hold it for you. But you have to be up close for it to work...I'd like that they sent if with a power reading and extra batteries that were rechargeable.

At the time of writing this I have owned the product for roughly three weeks. I bought this light for use with my Xacti cg10 camcorder. Since my camcorder does not have a built-in consistent light, I wanted to use this for night video. The first thing I noticed was how narrow the beam is; it only illuminates the center of the image. Also, the viewing distance isn't as far as advertised. But I knew this before purchasing because of the other reviews.
It would be useful for still cameras at night if they doesn't already have an auto focus light built in, or if the auto focus light isn't very good.
The reason I purchased the light regardless of its faults was because the videos i take at night are only for fun and memories, nothing serious. It would have been way cheaper to have built one myself with better light, but I wanted something as compact as my camcorder.

Comments about CameraBright X1-ER+ Extended Range Plus Digital/Video Camera Light:
In many cases I photograph very dark small interiors using a flash light, and in the meantime I am not be able to use any other source of lighting. In some cases X1-ER is helpful to get focus especially if the object and sourrandings are realy dark. If you need to photograph for example vehicle's interior with black leather, black headliner and black dash, then this X1 has not enough power even to get AF working. .

I have lights that fit on a ball cap that are as bright or brighter than this and provide a LOT more functionality. I'm sure there's a use for this, photography/videography is not one of them!

I use this as a focus light in dark conditions it is enough for the ease of composition and focus. The biggest bang for your buck that you can have.

The LEDs could be brighter. It's fine for a completely dark room, but even if there's a little light available, it doesn't really provide that much extra light.I might try and put my own LEDs it to make it throw out a bit more light.

Nice that you can still mount to mono/tripod.

To be fair, I haven't used this for any Blair witch type shooting yet, but so far the only plus of this light is that it mounts on the bottom of any camera with a tripod screw mount. And it let's you use a tripod with it as well instead of hogging the shoe. The downsides are, as other reviews have mentioned, it's not that bright (it's ok but not enough to really do much good, since it is so narrow and weak - I would hate to see the 'standard model'), and at least on the 3rd gen. Flip ultra, the tripod mount is on the side of the camera base and this light assumes the tripod mount to be in the center of the camera base - this makes the whole rig kind of unweildy, thus limiting situations where I would use the light. I will probably get more use out of it as a general light or with other cameras.

the overall star rating should not reflect on anything more than the reason for purchase. if you want a continuous light that's about the strength of one candle for video or light, this will do the job. one or two subjects of about 2-3 feet away would be the extent of the power of this light.
using it is easy just hit the button for on and hit it for off.

I got this to use on my Sigma DP2 that is known to have trouble focusing in absence of bright lights / high contrast.
Pros:
1) This version has a metal screw that feels nice and secure.
2) It looks nice and interesting.
3) You can still mount the whole setup on a tripod.
Cons:
1) Doesn't help my Sigma DP2 much in focusing.
2) Light can be turned on accidentally fairly easily if you carry your camera on the hip (as I do with a spider holster).
All in all, it is a good product. It just did not help my Sigma DP2 much. Slight improvements in acquiring focus only.

Comments about CameraBright X1-ER+ Extended Range Plus Digital/Video Camera Light:
I don't get the point of this product. I purchased the regular range version of this and it was good for close up portraits, giving a nice light to them but this seems to have a bluer, more unnatural light and didn't seem to help illuminate my web music videos of me playing guitar and singing. I sent it back. It could be that there are very good photographic uses for this but it was just not what I needed.

I use this light with a small AIPTEK full 1080p Camcorder. I was expecting it to be stronger. I tested recording using my bicycle light instead that cost me less that $20 and the result was much better.

Comments about CameraBright X1-ER+ Extended Range Plus Digital/Video Camera Light:
1. Sold as a video light. However, camcorder mounts are not centered, apparently they are on the right side. The X1-ER+ sticks out about an inch; so I can't slip my right hand through the side strap to grasp the camcorder. This product is only practical if it is connected between a camcorder and a tripod.
2. Otherwise the X1-ER+ works well as a fill light. It will brighten people's faces. Some people complain about the harshness of its white light, but simply switching the white balance setting of my camcorder to Fluorescent warmed the colors up.
3. This product will make a good camera/camcorder better, but it won't make a bad camcorder good. Digital noise/speckling in dark background areas is still completely unacceptable and it didn't noticeably help a really bad zoom autofocus.
Unfortunately, I fall into that 3rd catagory; so I had to return the camcorder and this light.

If you are looking for a economical solution to taking videos in poorly lit environments than this is the product for you. Sure, it could use a dimmer switch, but then you're only [$] for it and you can't have it all. Good brightness, in fact may be too bright and very white. Very secure brass mounting bolt. compact and a great add on for video on point & shoot digital cameras as well as video tape equipment. Great value for he price.

Comments about CameraBright X1-ER+ Extended Range Plus Digital/Video Camera Light:
This is a very interesting product. I don't think it's bad, I just think it could be better. If it had some sort of dimmer, than the lights could be turned on in total darkness, adapting to the environment, instead of turning on and flaring the whole room. Maybe something cool too would be the selection of the controlling of turning on and off the LEDs separately, so that you could also attempt to fade in or out the light, by adding or subtracting lit up LEDs. The controls available are none whatsoever, except for a button which turns the flashlight on or off.
