No one should expect audiophile quality from this price point. Nonetheless, these Sony speakers are more than adequate. I have not attempted to use them on stands, nor with a dedicated audio setup; instead, I hooked these speakers up to my TV/DVD for better movie sound. For this setup, in a smaller but very open entertainment room, they produce more than enough sound (including bass) and have a relatively clear midbass--even while being someone close to the floor. In fact, their placement below my TV forced me to turn down the bass and up the treble, but I don't blame the speakers for this--their response curve seems generally balanced for audio/video applications, with the exception of a somewhat soft high end (my amplifier is also somewhat soft, however--perhaps the speakers would open up with a brighter system). The build quality is fine--certainly better than most 50$ speakers, but well below a british 200$ bookshelf monitor. Overall, very highly recommended for secondary system applications, but not for full-out, high volume audio or video. Perfect for apartments/shared walls, where clarity and bass effects are more important than volume and actual "boom"!

I bought 2 pairs of these speakers. I use them as left and right surrounds and 2 of them together as a central channel. For surrounds they're normal but for the central one I can notice a big difference between these speakers and their big brother SS-B3000 which sounds great.
As I listen stereo music most of the time I turn on only SS-B3000. So these SS-B1000 I need only for 5.1 which I don't use every day. So, for such price they are still normal but I wish I had better speaker for central channel and I don't think SS-CN5000 will be somehow better than these.

STURDY, WELL BUILT FOR THE PRICE. GOOD SOUND QUALITY
Comments about Sony SS-B1000 2-Way Bookshelf Speakers:
I am using the SS-B1000s as near field speakers in a desk top system with a nuforce DAC and Topping amp. The sound is punchy and vibrant with rock and smooth with classical and jazz. Why pay more?
Comments about Sony SS-B1000 2-Way Bookshelf Speakers:
Bought these speakers to use with Sony receiver DH-520 7.1, using as front left and right channel, cranked it up yesterday on 2 channel stereo setting, the sound of these speakers just blew me away, i even had my sub-woofer turned off, don't need that with these speakers. These are some powerful little things. Buy them, you can't go wrong with them. Great work Sony.
Comments about Sony SS-B1000 2-Way Bookshelf Speakers:
What a huge appointment...especially after a price increase of twenty dollars. Just got them, installed them and now I'm repackaging them for a return and refund. What a waste of time. This why I hate ordering on line vs testing on a store floor model.
Comments about Sony SS-B1000 2-Way Bookshelf Speakers:
Got these speakers for my wife on Mother's day. We had an old stereo system who's speakers had gone bad and were too large for their new location. Knew the basics of impedance and power input needed, looked in stores then found these on-line. Sony was a great help. The speakers arrived in 5 days, no shipping charge, and were easy to set up. They even had wires included in the great price, in most stores there were lesser products, wires extra and even then not in stock.

Comments about Sony SS-B1000 2-Way Bookshelf Speakers:
I use these with my Onkyo in the garage and they produce great sound for their size. They are small enough to place or mount anywhere, but for the size they do very well. They have some good punch and more than enough bass. The mids are a bit lite for me, but it's not bad at all. But for the price you are not going to find a better speaker. I'm glad I bought these and will be ordering another pair.

I'm hearing disadvantaged and find that the clarity from these Sony speakers is great. I don't have to use wireless headphone or my blue-tooth hearing aids all the time. You won't get booming bass but will get voice clarity

If you're in the market for an inexpensive pair of very compact bookshelf speakers, you can't go wrong here. Don't expect the kind of low end you'll get from larger speakers, but these are great for small rooms.

Comments about Sony SS-B1000 2-Way Bookshelf Speakers:
I was skeptical about these small speakers even after reading all the reviews, plus thinking "you get what you pay for", but decided to take a chance based on Sony's product history. I was not disappointed in the sound. I bought these for my Onkyo in the garage for listening to music or watching a game not for having a concert. These work great and for the price, you get a lot of good quality sound for the price. If you want studio quality reproduction then be ready to open your wallet and spend a lot of money. I hooked them up with some other similar speakers and that expanded the sound quality also.
But there is nothing wrong with these speakers and I was surprised at the quality of sound coming from these small speakers.
I am going to order another pair.

I added these speakers to enhance the dynamic range and separation of a newly-bought tv for my man cave. They do the trick. The tv's stereo effect is enhanced by the speaker's increased separate distance, which is what I wanted. The price point was a definite plus.

I have these hooked up to a Sony STR-DH510 Home Theater Receiver. They were exactly what I was looking for, something small enough to fit on a shelf in my TV stand and still handle around 100 Watts of power and sound great, which they do! Good quality construction at a great price. Not a great bass response but I have a sub-woofer so it was not a priority.

These speakers work with my ipod/laptop. I keep them on my dorm room desk. They are big enough to produce good sound and small enough to store in the summertime. I made a mistake of not reading about these speakers more before I purchased them, and I didn't buy an amp which is needed to power them. Don't forget to do this before you purchase!
