Questions? Ask our experts:

The MDR-7506 is a staple within the recording, film and live arenas. Due to its low impedance and closed ear design, the headphone does an outstanding job of cutting down background noise while providing plenty of volume in the studio or in the field. Additionally, the closed design helps eliminate "headphone bleed" when overdubbing in the studio.

The MDR-7506 is an around-the-ear design and is ideal for use with MIDI workstations, camcorders or other equipment with less than powerful headphone amplification. The headphone has a foldable design, making it convenient to store or transport, and its coiled cable allows it to stretch and spring back into place whenever you need a bit more reach.

Circumaural closed-back stereo headphone ideal for use in professional applications
40mm diameter drive units deliver deeper bass, lower distortion and wider dynamic range
Neodymium magnets for maximum energy and minimum size
Compact, foldable design
Coiled cable allows for better mobility, and reach, while also preventing snags from tugging the headphones right off your ears
OFC cable and gold plated Unimatch plug provides both 1/8" mini-jack and 1/4"TRS phono connectivity

Great headphones! I've used them professionally for over 8 years now. When I needed to purchase my own, I didn't hesitate to order these.
For the price they are as good as you can get but I haven't used a lot of others. Before then we used the Koss Pro4AA as well as some other cheaper ones when the Koss would meet an unfortunate end.
Finally, I switched to the MDR7606. It has a great frequency response range. Primarily, I record voice work in the field and these phones have no problem in that range. It's worked great in the music I've recorded, but I wouldn't be able to elaborate on that as I don't do that alot.
The phones are comfotable and fit beautifully yet are not too large. I never feel like they're heavy or uncomfortable which is a problem I've had in the past. The cushion is great and isolates sound well. Although not a dedicated sound guy. I am very particular to hear any problems I have in the field, and the MDR7606 does just that.
The phones fold up nicely so it packs together in my kit well, which is great as I don't have alot of help to carry my gear. The cord is long but not in the way. And unlike the others I've used, they have not self-destructed. I've dropped them more times then I can count, kicked them, mashed them and I have never had a problem. My other phones would only last 1-2 years, these have lasted 5 and counting! Part of its secret, I think, is it is well built and light so upon impact(if it should happen) the parts don't want to seperate, which is something I've seen alot of in the past.
Get these phones, a great price for such a versitle headphone that will give you years of use. With the pearson cushion replacement you might never need to buy another.

1/4" jack was faulty right out of the box. Easy to replace but annoying for a supposed high quality set of headphones.

I use these for recording sounds in the field for sound design. I also use them to mix on and the are surprisingly accurate and give a pretty nice mix considering they are closed headphones. They fit over my ears nicily so they do not hurt them when wearing them for long periods of time. They cancel out noise very well. Be careful though because it is easy to stand next to a bass cabinet turned all the way up and think you are good when recording it.

I utilize the MDR-7506's in my project studio for tracking purposes. Vocal tracking more than anything is what these mainly get used for in my studio. Overall, I would say they are a great product. At first, I was worried that these might be "hyped" and not deliver to the level expected, but I was wrong. These definitely provide the clarity and noise-isolation that I was looking to provide for people in my studio.

Went to Guitar Center and tried on some contenders - Sennheisers and Audio Technica, in the range of $150 - $300 - They all felt like they were crushing my head. These Sony's (or which I already owned 1 pair) are the only ones I can stand for hours at a time. Super light and just really comfy. Nice little bag to keep them in and they're also MUCH smaller to pack and travel with than the others, a big plus when packing for a flight for example! Just really great. Only flaw - I anticipate the earpiece covers may start to flake (my others did) but even if that happens I'd still opt for the comfort of these cans. If SONY could solve that issue they would have 100/100 of my vote. Right now it's 95/100.:)

I've been a fan of the 7506s since I first stumbled across them nearly 20 years ago. I still have one of the three original pair I bought then—and they still sound dayum good.

I love these 'phones... you'll love them, too. They're light, comfortable, and if you have to use them to mix, they translate well.

I use them in the studio as well as in the field.

                                Comments about Sony MDR-7506 Headphone:

I'm a software/electronics engineer, and dabbles in media as a hobby, so not exactly the target market. I really enjoy my MDR-7506 headphones and wear them for a few hours on any given work day. My main use for them is listening to higher bitrate web radio, also for skype, etc. Great performance, especially for the price!

Sound is very clear, down to quite a low frequency, though I'm not really an audiophile or well versed in comparable headphones. If anything, I'd say the sound is a little bit "clinical", exactly what monitors are meant for. Nice isolation; I don't have to use much volume at all to completely "tune out" nearby conversations in an office setting.

Construction is solid, nice quality cable and connector seems like they'll hold up well. Ear pads and pressure are comfortable and effective. Ear cups flip around easily, to the point that it took a day or two for me to get used to taking the headphones off without cups flipping around.

The blue stickers on the ear cups look a bit dorky IMHO, but they're easy to peel off.

These are the best headphones to use when recording sound on a set. Everything is clear and I also use it for music. I wouldn't recommend them for editing though. Wish it came with a hard protective case though.

I purchased over a dozen of these over the last several years. 3 pairs for myself and the rest for several small recording studios I helped put together. Make sure to replace the pleather pads with Beyerdynamic valour alternatives.

I use this mostly for some editing, casual listening, and the occasional game. Thoroughly impressed with the sound profile and clarity, and even more so for the price. Also light and comfortable.
