The best think about photography is that you never stop learning. The worst thing about it is you never stop learning to improve your craft. I purchased these barn doors to improve my control of my lighting. The housing is made of heavy duty plastic while the "doors" are composed of very strong metal and have springs in the hinges to allow the doors to snap closed. In fact, initially these springs make it difficult to close the doors without having them snap closed rather than remaining partially open when you want them almost closed. With use, however, the springs "loosen" just a bit so that fine adjustments are possible. Included in the kit is a plastic grid (also made of the strong plastic) which allows you to focus the strobes better, and three gel filters (red, blue, yellow), each in its own gel holder. These gels are pretty fragile and are the least impressive conponent in the kit. I guess that gels will always be fragile though, so it isn't an unexpected problem. The doors work very well and allow you to experiemnt with subtle effects until you are pleased with the result. This item seem very well made and should last for a great many years if used carefully. They are relatively lightweight and don't add an appreciable amount of weight to the strobe you attach them to. The cost is right and money well spent if you need, or want, a good way to control the amount of light emitted by a strobe.

Good Light Control
Fits well. I'm using it on a Calumet Genesis 200 which seems to be made by Interfit. Only plastic clips attach to the reflector. I don't know how they'll hold up over time.

Well made and does exactly what it needs to do. Perfect fit on the EXD series. Gels do the job and provide primary colors. Could do with a source of gel holders to make up gels in custom colors.

Surprisingly inexpensive, but sturdy barndoor modifier that fits without mods on the standard Genesis reflectors. The bonus is [$] worth of color filters. I was sceptical at the description, but will now get a second one.

I love that you can feather the light exactly where you want it using the barndoor. And the gels are great too. Very easy to use and well worth the money.

I use this product in my studio and so far it has delivered pleasing results for me. The doors are metal and spring loaded and have decent durability. So far, the only 2 pitfalls I can find are with 1) the length of the flaps themselves. I wish they were just a bit longer for better control. And 2) the gel brackets are kinda flimsy. They go in hard and feel like I'm going to break them if I'm not careful. Oh yeah, and if you use a high key background (a.k.a. white) be careful when using the doors as a rim light as there is a slight gap between the reflector and the back plate. It may produce undesireable results. But it's nothing a little gaff tape won't fix.

I wanted a set of gels for my Interfit EXD200. For a little more than the price of the gels I was able to get the barndoors and three gels. So far I have used them on a white background for kids shots and have been very pleased with the results (of the gels). I haven't used the barndoor portion of it, but it seems solid. The way it wraps around the dish is a little goofy, if I were to complain it would be that mount to the dish and the way you place the gels, it "feels" like you're going to bend them too much. For the price though, I'm very pleased.

Great barndoors for the price, you even get a set of three gels and a grid to go with them! Well built, nice flat black metal finish. Not much more to say - they work and look like they will keep working for several more years! :)
