I compared a number of boom arms on the B&H website and chose this one because I felt it was the best value. It's long, strong, and comes complete with a mounting clamp and counterweight. I use it to hold a Photoflex LiteDome Q39 Medium Softbox and a battery powered flash for portraits and tabletop photography.[...]The counterweight has to be assembled, and there are no instructions, but you can figure it out if you are good with mechanical things. You will need to adjust the tightness of the screws on the counterweight very precisely -- the metal mounting plate needs to be snug enough to hold the weight in place safely, but not so snug that you can't slide the weight up and down the arm. For safety, I added two additional washers underneath the plate -- that enabled me to tighten the outer two screws securely without making it too snug to move. A large lever allows you to easily tighten or loosen the counterweight once it's properly assembled.I really like that the mounting stud on the end of the arm can be positioned either straight out or straight down. I didn't see that feature on any other boom arm in this price range. You definitely need a HEAVY DUTY light stand to mount this arm! The whole arm-stand assembly is big and heavy, so you'll need to put casters on the light stand to position it easily and safely, without scratching the floor. If you have a mobile studio, you'll need a bag which is big and strong enough to carry the arm, weight, and stand. The accessories I recommend below work very well together.

Works pretty well to hold a speed light, cast iron umbrella bracket, and 28" Apollo soft box at full extension. I don't think it would hold much more owing to the provided boom clamp being resin rather than metal, and not very strong or durable. A fairly heavy duty stand is a must and a better boom clamp is a good idea.

There were no directions included for the assembly of the counterweight; it isn't hard to figure out but it takes some trial and error to get the tension just right. If the tension isn't just right, it can be difficult to change the position of the weight and therefore the boom.

Comments about Interfit 2 Section Boom Arm with Counterweight:

I needed something to hold a flash and umbrella above my subject and thought this would work. I chose it based on price and reviews.

The boom arm came with very basic instructions, but it's pretty intuitive to put together. The only difficult part was connecting the counter weight so it can be adjusted using the handle.

Comments about Interfit 2 Section Boom Arm with Counterweight:

I attached this product to the Impact Air-cushioned Light Stand (Black, 8') to support a light. Although less elegant than a traditional light stand, I thought it would work. This 2 Section Boom Arm is excellent, I have no complaints, however, it is far to heavy to be supported by the light stand that was recommended to me.

Comments about Interfit 2 Section Boom Arm with Counterweight:

This product is pretty well described, the picture makes it look better than it is though. Thin aluminum causes an arch in the boom when extended, though it hasn't been a problem. Just a little unnerving... The amount of extention though is really fantastic. If your using a lightweight speedlight, you can go all the way without worry. The counterweight is, well, just a big piece of iron. Feels like a lot more than 5.5 pounds. Maybe 10??? The grip is my biggest disappointment. Plastic, cheap, feels like it will break any second. I will most likely be purchasing a Manfrotto grip to ease my mind on important shoots. All in all, I got a product that I don't mind paying $ for. Besides, if I wanted to spend any more than that, I'd have got something better.

I put my B800 with a beauty dish on the boom and attach it to an Impact lightstand. It works for what I need it to do...although I will need to get some lightstand sand bags.Things that are great about it. That it is inexpensive[...]Not so great...it does not come with instructions for the counter weight assembly and the clamp that attaches the boom to the stand is plastic. I would feel more confident in a stronger clamp. I wish the counter weight moved easier as well.

Comments about Interfit 2 Section Boom Arm with Counterweight:

For the price of this boom arm, I cannot really complain. Does what it's supposed to do.

The boom arm has pretty good length compared to similarly priced or cheaper ones. It seems to hold pretty well for a light to mid weight strobe. The counterweight is perfect for keeping the stand stable enough for you to reposition the arm anyway you want. It's also better than using sandbags.

The gripes I had about this item is the locking swivel that comes with it. It's made out of plastic! That in my opinion is the weakest point of this item. You have to be very careful when repositioning it and locking it. It seemed like it would snap anytime. Especially with that counterweight weighing it down. Also the counterweight when attached to the arm is kinda hard to readjust when you lock it. There are 4 screws holding the lock and the counterweight plus the adjusting nut and it seems like when you attach the 4 screws, there is no way to reposition it unless you loosen all 4 screws instead of just the locking nut, that would be a pain when doing a shoot somewhere else and you don't have your allen wrench tool with you.

Besides that, the set is really easy to assemble. For the price you can't beat the good deal. I'd recommend this to a friend!

By the way, if the swivel breaks, just get an all metal one.

Comments about Interfit 2 Section Boom Arm with Counterweight:

Picked this up because I needed a boom arm to use with my Wescott 28" Apollo and DIY Beauty Dish. I had been using an Interfit stand/reflector holder and it worked okay, but after a year of use, I needed something better.

I thought the price was good and purchased along with a heavy duty Impact light stand. I wish the mounting swivel was made of metal instead of plastic. That's the only part that might not last. But easily replaceable with a metal Manfrotto version.

I agree with the previous review about assembling the weight, could have included instructions but not impossible to figure out. I've found that if I use the 28" Apollo and the arm is not fully extended, but only enough to be able to place and angle the Apollo better, you can go without using the weight (at least if you're using it with a heavy duty stand with a wider footprint). I don't carry the weight with me, but leave it in the car when I go on location in case I need it.

As a location shooter, the light stand and boom arm are not easy to carry, but with a case and shoulder strap, it makes traveling easier. I purchased the Kata Light Stand Case 54" and I'm able to fit the light stand, boom arm, 28" Apollo & 60" Reflective Umbrella with room to spare. Time will tell how durable this boom arm is, but for the price, I think it's a great buy.

I bought this to be able to put a softlighter with flash on a boom over the top of subjects. The boom worked great. The only down side I found was my standard light stands would barely hold it. I mean they were bending when I put all that weight on them. I HIGHLY recommend getting a strong light stand like the one listed below. (Rated at 25 pounds!)
