Comments about Westcott Illuminator Reflector Kit 6-in-1 - 30":

I use this product on low-budget video/movie shoots. I've used it as a reflector, diffuser, and flag. It's bendable and lightweight. This is a great product.

If you are on a budget, the only reason to buy anything else would be:
        - The stand is really flimsy
        - The wind moves it (it's basically a sail)
        - If you needed a bigger reflector

Comments about Westcott Illuminator Reflector Kit 6-in-1 - 30":

I bought this to improve outdoor family portraits. This is my first reflector so I do not have any experience with other reflectors for comparison but this works as you'd expect. The zippers can be tricky until you figure out how best to hold/position the reflectors while zipping or unzipping. It's easy enough to setup, and relatively small and lightweight for transport and storage.

Comments about Westcott Illuminator Reflector Kit 6-in-1 - 30":

Great kit, I like all the different reflectors, the stand and the boom pole to hold them. However I wish they would have made another kit that was 8 in 1 with a white reflector and some other color maybe. For what it has, the kit is great though, I bought a white/silver 30" reflector separate to go with this kit.

Comments about Westcott Illuminator Reflector Kit 6-in-1 - 30":

Photography exists because of light and it is the photographer's talent, expertise and obligation to paint with light. The thirty inch Westcott Illuminator 6-in-1 Reflector Kit affords the photographer a third hand to help control and manage light. At first glance all components appear to be well constructed and suitably sturdy. One tip; when attaching the Illuminator arm to the stand, completely remove the thumbscrew from the female collar. Once removed the two pieces will fit together snugly and will be secure when the thumbscrew is tightened. I waited too many years and wasted too much effort in trying to make do without professional quality reflectors. The set comes with two scrims (diffusion screens, a gold, silver, black and sunlight reflectors. The 30" model packs well for travel. Larger models are available for location and studio applications.

                Kit helps manage natural lighting

Comments about Westcott Illuminator Reflector Kit 6-in-1 - 30":

I find the 30-inch 6-in-one reflector kit is the perfect size for packing into my field kit, as the diffusion panels fold down into a package a bit more than 10 inches across. The kit includes a zippered pouch that holds the two fabric screens and the four-sided (silver, gold, "sunlight" [gold and silver sort of woven together] and black) reversible reflector sleeve that zippers-up snugly over the hoop. The pouch is a bit puffy with all of that fabric stuffed into it, perhaps three inches through the center, but it compresses down nicely in my field pack. The spring steel hoops are not made of round wire, like you find in those widgets you pop open to block your windshield on a hot day, but are flat and about 7/16 inch wide. This makes the hoops nicely rigid and manageable. All of the materials seem sturdy and the workmanship appears first-rate. I expect a long service life from this kit, which was made in Korea.

The Italian-made reflector arm is also quite nice. All of the fittings are alloy castings and it is double-ball-jointed where it connects to the stand, making it almost infinitely adjustable. The arm features spring-loaded clamps designed to easily attach to the reflector hoop, and it telescopes to adjust to all hoop sizes.

The three-legged stand is of modest but serviceable quality, and it folds up compactly. The head features a standard-issue attachment peg, with a 1/4-inch threaded tip for attaching a slave flash unit or whatnot. Made in China.

Included with the kit is an "educational" DVD from the marketing department, promoting Westcott products. I thought it an embarrassment of low production values. However, if you can look beyond its shortcomings, it may provide some tips you could find useful (or it may inspire you to purchase other Westcott stuff).

In all, a decent product. Were I to lose it, I would want to replace it with the same article.

I enjoy doing portraiture using window-light and other natural light sources. I will be using these screens and reflectors to knock down highlights and fill in shadows, still using natural light. I also enjoy making outdoor "portraits" of flowers and insects and the like, and now I will be able to use these screens as miniature clouds to soften direct sunlight and the reflectors to isolate subjects from their background. I imagine I will encounter many photographic challenges where this screen-and-reflector kit will be handy to have.
