This worked both on my mono pod and my tri-pod. VERY easy to use. I was impressed with the quality. I guess for the price I was expecting it to be a little cheaper mads, but it is very sturday. The adjustable grip makes it easy to get the camera in just the right spot. It will also tilt a full 90 degrees so you can take vertical pitctures as well.

I had this item out of the box for a total of about 5 minutes when the locking clamp for the tripod plate broke off. The locking clamp is one of the few parts that are made of plastic and its a poor design. I was taking my camera off the grip when the clamp broke... Had I not been holding the camera by hand, it would have fallen almost 5 feet to the concrete floor of my basement. I got what I paid for. I would have rated it one star but to be fair, it was only xx bucks, B&H has credited me the value and other then the poorly designed plate locking clamp, the rest of the unit's build seems solid and functional.

This little gadget allows for a quick quick leveling and saves wear on your tripod and camera connections.
I keep this on a slider. I keep another on on my "product shots" tripod. Higher quality than you may expect. I thought about greasing the ball when I got it but decided it adds just enough drag and gription.

A very useful and low-cost tool for making any tripod or monopod more useful. Makes leveling a camera a dream, and does a competent job of allowing panning. Good for video applications with a small to medium video camera, or an action camera. Also useful for still cameras. Unit is solid and appears to be well-made. No negative findings to date.

I purchased this to replace a broken Manfrotto 3265 Pistol Grip. The lower profile feels more stable than the Manfrotto & the grip, easier to squeeze and quickly and accurately position. The materials & build feel solid. No complaints so far & for the price, you can't beat it.

Comments about Sunpak Pistol Grip Ballhead:

This ballhead replaces the Joby ballhead I've been using on top of a cheap Velbon tripod. I was noticing a lot of creep on shots I took on a recent trip, especially with longer exposures, so I decided to spring for something a bit more intuitive and reliable.

This ballhead screws on like any other ballhead might, is rock solid and is easily repositionable when the trigger is pulled. It swivels 360 horizontally with ease. A bit of forethought is necessary with vertical shots; you'll need to swivel the top part over 90 degrees, but you'll still be able to swivel vertically, independent from the middle portion of the mount.

I like the fact that the shoe is the same shape no matter which direction it's placed in the mount; it makes for better maneuverability in cases where additional parts on my tripod may conflict with the parts on the mount.

Unintentional pro: because I'm cheap and just screwing this on top of a tripod that already has a mount, I get a little extra height out of this when I need it.

On things that aren't so great, mostly it's heavy. It would probably be less of an issue if I carried a lighter and more compact tripod, but I don't. On the flipside, the heavy construction seems very durable and I can't help but use the handle on this grip to carry the whole assembly (mount and tripod) while walking around. Am not sure whether this is the best idea for the life of the mount, but we'll see.

Overall, I feel like this is a good value for the cost. Arrived promptly in Toronto with no complications.

Comments about Sunpak Pistol Grip Ballhead:

I purchased this to replace the mount the SUNPAK 6600P came with that busted after 3 months of use. We use it to take photographs for employee badges so it gets a fair amount of use. This ballhead unit has a much easier squeeze to the trigger which allowing for easier operation. The range of motion is much easier to adjust too. The original was a little stiff and wouldn't go a full 90 over. There is a wider & more stable base, greatly improved catch area & locking features. They should have used this on the tripod all along! The only "con" I would have is that it wasn't part of the original equipment.

Comments about Sunpak Pistol Grip Ballhead:

Bought this grip as an upgrade to my current carbon fiber Sunpak tripod.

It is very easy to attach the head to the base and the unit even includes the step down thread insert for compact tripods.

The unit supports by both my D300 and D3s without any issues. There is more than enough clamping power to support the camera with most lenses and accessories.

The rang of motion is excellent in horizontal mode, but could be better in vertical.

One minor nit pick I have is that the head is just slightly to large to fit in my tripod bag when mounted.

All in all it is a great product at an exceptional price.

Comments about Sunpak Pistol Grip Ballhead:

The only complaint I have about this product is the locking lever. Could be stronger. It broke on me. I however had purchased one of these last year and had no problem with the lever and I used it a lot. That's why I bought another. They work really great for the price. Would have given 5 stars but for the lever. The manufacturer is sending me another locking lever. They were really good about it. The pistol grip is pretty solidly built otherwise. Would recommend.

Comments about Sunpak Pistol Grip Ballhead:

I was hoping that this group would be strong enough to mount my Canon XA10 and let me say I am pleasantly surprised. Everything on it can be moved, rotated, tilted, and adjusted any way you want, yet when you let go of the handle it's as solid as a rock! The handle feels good and the movements are super smooth. The only thing I have against ballheads is that they can be harder to level than panheads. However, this does have a bubble level so that helps.

Comments about Sunpak Pistol Grip Ballhead:

This is a great product I have two of them. I have never had a problem with them extremely easy to use. Yes it is a little heavy but boy does it do the job, one hand adjustment just to where you want your camera to be aimed. It is solid, well made and works very well. It is much heavier duty than I expected at this price. It is nicely designed, with a nice quick release plate, a mounting plate that rotates and locks, the ball head and the pistol grip which works great.

Comments about Sunpak Pistol Grip Ballhead:

buying over the internet scares me, buying from another country and over the internet terrifies me. I was looking for a pistol grip ballhead for my 30 year old tri-pod, not being able to find one here in Red Deer, I decided to take a chance and order one on line, thats where B & H comes in, they have a number of different brands & price ranges plus the reviews to help u decide. Once I had settled on the Sunpak, Saturday evening, I placed my order, by the following Friday[fear #1 out of the way, it's going to get lost] it was at my door in Red Deer, Alberta, the delivery driver was not holding his hand out for additional funds [fear #2, additional charges], unpacked the item is as discribed and works [fear #3 it will be damaged or a piece junk]i took it out shooting on the Sunday and am very pleased with the product, its a little stiff, so difficult to fine tune but other then that great. While out shooting i developed a need/want, that of a window mount, I sent sunpak an e-mail asking if they made a window mount that would use the same quick release, saddly they can't be bothered to return my e-mail, So if your like me, afraid of buying over the internet, B & H might just solve that problem, the price was as stated, the shipping efficient, i'll be buying from B & H again.

This product was intended as a back up for traveling. Great use, plate fix and attach very well to base of camera with out slipping. Quick release is great and sturdy, good for all terrain. I can ise it with my existents Manfrotto tripods. Love it.

Seems very sturdy for the price. Easy quick release. At first I couldn't figure out how it would fit my tripod until I read a review that said to use flathead screwdriver to remove mount piece.
