I like this tripod. It's a lot lighter then i thought it would be. And the quick release clamps on the legs for adjusting height are a MUST in my book! When you're out on a job or trying to capture a moment you need to be able to adjust fast! And they quick clamps have always allowed me to do that. I wont buy the tripods with the screw nob type tighteners on the legs.

Also, I nice compact sized tripod. Great for storage or carrying around.

I bought this tripod as part of a kit with the Manfrotto 501 fluid head... and the only downside is that it didn't come with a carrying case.
I took an old folding lawn chair bag and use that sometimes. I also use an old duffle bag and carry a couple tri-pods at a time.

I bought this tripod as a set with the Manfrotto 503 fluid pan head. This tripod is too flexible for panning. If your drag is set the least bit stiff to produce a smooth pan, the tripod legs twist under the head then spring back at the end of the pan.

The round rubber feet are too small and slippery. and the legs too flexible. It may be OK for use with a lightweight still camera, but it is practically useless for video work.

Comments about Manfrotto 055XB Aluminum Tripod:

I attatched these sticks to my Manfrotto 502HD Head. They work perfectly with this set up.

      Pros:
      Cheap and strong, very durable
      Easy to operate

      Cons:
      Heavy

The only downside to these legs is that they are heavy for their size, otherwise they are a very solid set of sticks for medium sized tripod heads.

Heads up! The leg locks have changed from thumbscrew to snap and the "wrench" to tighten these is a plastic thing, it won't last long. That's important to us since these are used by students who don't check the legs before they use the tripod. Cameras have been destroyed.

Comments about Manfrotto 055XB Aluminum Tripod:

I owned a bunch of cheap tripods. My best one was a tripod I inherited from my father from the 1960's. It worked for so long and finally just wore out.

This is such an upgrade. I like the way the legs can spread wide. I've attached my slider to this and dropped it down to a much lower level by spready the legs. Meets my needs quite well.

        Solid construction.

I thought this wouldn't be heavy duty enough to hold up my Edelkrone slider but it does it with ease. I thought about going with the PRO version but it really is unnecessary when you mainly do video. Great purchase

This tripod might be heavy to some but even so it is very stable and sturdy with that. I have done long exposure night photos (45 seconds to 2 min) in winds of 25-45mph and still had tack sharp images. Not sure how some are saying this is unstable or weak or what they are trying to do with it but I have never had an issue with it be it doing CityScape or landscape photos. I have even set it up in the middle of a river with a decent current and gotten rock solid results from it. I have been using this tripod for 5 years now and it has never failed me.

For a budget tripod, it doesn't get much better. You could get the "pro" version if you need to shoot straight down. I opted for this because I don't need that and this might be slightly more stable without the additional "joint." Relatively tall, relatively light (very light by some standards), relatively sturdy, VERY cheap for what you get.

Comments about Manfrotto 055XB Aluminum Tripod:

I love the sturdy construction. The flip locks are so much easier to use than the twist locks on my older tripod. It is not too heavy and a great price.

Comments about Manfrotto 055XB Aluminum Tripod:

Serious Birders often spend lots and lots of money on Optics. Just gitting into Birding I opted for just good highly recomended but not expensive equipment at reasonable prices and the 055XP tripod fits my needs. The 055XP with a Manfrotto 128LP Video Head supports my Celestron Regal 65F-ED Spotting scope. For bird photography the 055XP and 128LP also do well supporting my Canon 60D with a Canon 400mm lens with an attached Canon 1.4X Extender. I pack the scope and tripod in a Hakuba 200 tripod Bag. I pack my Canon camera and lens in a Medium Temba sling bag. There are some interssting birds to see and photograph most any spring day on the upper Texas coast.
