Supporting up to 15.4 lb, the Manfrotto 755XB MDeVe Aluminum Video Tripod is an extremely versatile two-stage aluminum tripod that was designed specifically for run-and-gun videographers using Mini-DV or DVCAM camcorders where rapid, reliable setup and breakdown is paramount.

The 755XB has been redesigned to offer better ergonomics of the leg-angle release mechanism, and improved quick action leg locks. Flip lever leg locks clamp down tightly in one motion, yet are adjustable for wear over time. The built-in 50mm leveling ball provides rapid column leveling on uneven terrain, and leg tubes are grooved and keyed for torsional stability during setup and use.

I researched Tripods for a long time before making a decision on the 755XB. There are so many different models with different features to decide on. For me, all factors are important, weight, maximum height, minimum height, leg lock types, center column, price, ect. In the end this Tripod serves my needs b/c it is fast and easy to set up and change. I shoot a web series on DSLR cameras so I'm shooting every other day. I would expect most people shooting similar type of productions would be served with it as well.

The next higher model up was $300 more and just to take one pound off the weight. I actually feel I need the extra weight to keep the tripod as sturdy as possible. Of course if you need it heavier you can add a sand bag to the hook to make it weigh more which is a cool feature i didn't know about till i bought it. Another hard decision was between a Tripod with a center column or no center column.

When choosing gear its important to go with the item that will serve you for most shooting situations you find yourself in. In my opinion a center column is more advantageous for most shooting situations. A center column allows me the quickest possible way to raise or lower the height of the camera. Tripods with no center column are great if you want to get really low to the ground, but that is a special case, and is needed less often.

This Tripod won't do everything. Don't expect to throw a Red One on it. If your changing out cameras often from DSLR to Full size broadcast or feature film cameras then you're going to need something else. But if you only shoot on DSLR cameras like the 5D, or Blackmagic Cinema camera, or small to medium size HD cameras this will do it.

Perfectly fine for still shooting, if that's you, then seriously consider this rig.

However, if you need to do 180 degree pans, like I do, for motion picture EFP, then you're probably not going to be happy with the sticks. The ball head (at least on the rig I have) is not level across that range.

In fact a 90 degree move induces about 2 to 3 degrees on horizontal tilt on the sticks I have. And if one's shot horizon is 2 degrees off-level, it's a worthless shot.

It is a terrible shame because other than that flaw it's exactly what I need for my style of production. It's small, light, you can get the lens vertical up to 5'9", it's rugged/durable, I can collapse it down so it fits in a carry-on sized bag, and it's not very expensive.

Man, too bad about that unreliability with the leveling.

Comments about Manfrotto 755XB MDeVe Aluminum Video Tripod:

I've grown used to an old worn out model 3021, so it was quite a pleasant shock to use a set of sticks whose legs didn't slide constantly and have to be readjusted every time I moved locations. It was also nice to not have a "self closer" where the legs collapse together, every time I pick it up. The price point was perfect for me. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for new sticks!

I use this product for photo and video use. Great for quick set-up and tear-down. I am happy with everything except the center ball doesn't tighten very tight. Sometimes I may put a little more weight on it then is specified, but I wish it was easier to tighten down. I bring a wrench with to tighten it fully

Comments about Manfrotto 755XB MDeVe Aluminum Video Tripod:

Solid, sturdy and very functional. I bought this to try as a fairly portable option to mount my konova slider on, and it works very nicely. The ball head makes getting angled camera moves so much easier than the tripod I was working with before, and the sturdier stand makes it much easier to get smooth movements.

Just recently purchased this tripod for deer hunting and it is flawless. Its very light compared to others, works like a charm. only downfall i can see is the metallic cover, which i could see as being flashy in the woods, but this should be over looked.

I use the tripod for both my camera and my video. I purchased it because the my Sunpak 7500 kept falling apart. I got a replacement from the company and it fell apart the first time I used it. My Manfrotto feels very solid. I have only used it a few times, but I am very optimistic that it will stand up.

with legs that extend, and have multiple angles to set them at, this tripod is great, but it also has a ball head which is just one more level of versatility. makes setup fast and easy. It is also strong enough to hold midsized video equipment like a Sony ax2000. The only downfall that i have experienced at all(due to the telescoping neck) is that I can't get the head as close to the ground as I sometimes wish i could for slider shots and similar things

This is a highly versatile tripod. I love the ball-head for leveling and the lightweight design. I can strap it to a backpack or throw it in a suitcase and take it anywhere. Last week I used it to shoot a wedding and it worked perfectly with my Sony FS100 and Phillip Bloom pocket dolly. This is the best travel tripod I've used and it's great for run and gun situations. It is super quick and easy to level.

Great design in theory. I had it for two hours after leaving the store with it and it broke!

They are very strong legs all around.....except for one small important part. The bowl (the red part) to help with leveling is only connected by a small screw in the middle of it. I know because when I tightened the tension of the bowl to then start using it, when I pressed down on the head I was using it on it just snapped the bowl right off. I didn't even press hard on it.

It could have been a fluke one, but when I took it back even the rep there thought it was of bad design. I exchanged it for legs that had all the same specs, but was half the price because it doesn't have the leveling bowl and am way way happier. Sure it'll take me a slight moment to level with the legs now, but it for sure won't break like this one!!!

                                  I'd stay away!!!

I use this tripod for filming on my 7D with a 501HDV head which works great! I have a letus rig with a smallHD and an H4n on it too and holds up very well. Extremely sturdy, very portable, and pretty light. Great buy!
