This Sea & Sea Strobe Mask Set is used to attach the Sea & Sea Fiber Optic Cable to many manufacturers underwater housings. The mask blocks the on-camera flash from exposing your subject. This prevents back-scatter. The grommet allows the cable to be attached in front of the on-camera flash so the light will trigger your external strobe.

Comments about Sea & Sea Strobe Mask Set:
IT DEPENDS ON THE HOUSING YOU NEED TO CONNECT TO, BUT IT DOES WORK. THERE ARE TEMPLATES AVAILABLE ONLINE AT SEA&SEA WEBSITE FOR SOME HOUSINGS. THESE ARE VERY HELPFUL FOR A GENERAL PICTURE OF WHAT TO DO, BUT IN SOME CASES YOU CAN MODIFY THESE AND GET A BETTER FIT. IT MAY BE NECESSARY TO MODIFY THE GROMET, WHICH WOULD REQUIRE A GRINDER. THE PACKAGE COSTS WAY TOO MUCH FOR WHAT YOU GET, BUT THE BOTTOM LINE IS THAT IT WORKS.

Comments about Sea & Sea Strobe Mask Set:
I installed this strobe mask set on a Canon WP-DC28 housing to allow me to use a Sea & Sea YS-110a strobe instead of the Canon G10's built-in flash. It was very easy to cut the velcro to shape using the template on the Sea & Sea website (I used the one for the Canon G11, which worked just fine). Initially, I didn't like the positioning of the grommet when I test fitted it to the housing, so I used a grinder to flatten two of its sides. It then fit fine, with the hole for the fiber optic cable perfectly positioned over the camera's flash. The stock grommet puts the cable hole too high up on the housing which throws off alignment with the built-in flash and causes the grommet to protrude above the top of the housing. I don't know whether this affects actual performance or not, but I am happier using the product with the simple modification that I made. In use, the YS-110a flashed every time I wanted it to and the velcro held firm on my first three outings, two snorkeling trips and one dive, and is still holding strong. Overall, I am very happy with the product as it does what it is designed to do. The only reason I gave this a 4 out of 5 rating is because of the price which, to me, seems a little high for a few strips of velcro and a small piece of machined aluminum (for the grommet). I would recommend this product to anyone who is looking to add an external underwater strobe via fiber optic cable.
