The HA-NC250 headphones from JVC offer terrific sound quality and noise-cancelling capabilities in a lightweight and comfortable design. The adjustable, padded headband and cushioned earcups let you listen for hours with comfort. The memory foam ear cushions help to naturally block out external noises, and active noise-cancelling technology helps to reduce noise by up to 85%. The noise-cancelling feature works for hours on a single AAA battery. If desired, the headphones can be used without power as a normal set of headphones without noise-cancellation.
The headphones have 40mm neodymium drivers for high-quality sound reproduction with a wide frequency response. The single-sided cable can also be detached, allowing you to block out noise without music. The standard 3.5mm mini plug is compatible with a variety of devices, and 1/4" and airplane adapters are included so you can connect anywhere you like on the ground or in the air. The headphones fold flat to pack neatly into the included carrying case for convenient storage and travel.

use them at work (cube), while travelling, sometimes at homeGreat at cancelling out noise that is further away. Still ambiant noise audible i.e. conversations of colleagues though quite muted. Thus could be better at completely cancelling noise though I have no comparisson but [$] headphone tha claim to cancel noise and do not.I can hear a thumping, throbbing, vibration noise if there is no audio played cause by the NC system and I do not like that fact. It's irritating in my ear hence play anything music is best and once NC is turned on the sound become rich and base deeper. Great with Techno, Dance music i.e. iTunes radio. If you wear glasses you will feel the frame of your glasses after a while as the headphone squeeze your ears on them :-).Again greta headphones and [$] less than Bose which might be better at completely cancelling ambiant noise...I don't know as I have not tried them just yet. Also, no idea how good they are on a plane as I just got these and have not used them while flying. They are small enough to be easily stored and seem nicely constructed. Require one AAA battery within right ear piece.

I bought these for use on the plane while traveling. I have experience with the earlier model of Bose Quiet Comfort 15's and thought they were amazing. I didn't want to spend 300 dollars so I read reviews and opted for the JVCs for best all around features. I bought the JVCs for the strong reviews, detachable cord, over the ear style and semi hard carry case. The result is ok but not great. The audio sound seems imbalanced.. more on the right than left (or vice versa) and the noise canceling strength is not as good as the Bose and not as comfortable as my older Sony earbuds (Sony MDR-NC11 Fontopia). All in all if a friend asked me to recommend a pair of noise canceling and they didn't have a preference of over or in the ear then I would recommend the Sony MDR-NC11.

I didn't really believe that noise-cancelling headphones could dampen airplane noise, but I wanted to try anyway. These are great! The noise does not go away completely, but it is significantly reduced. These are easy to tote and are a good value for the money.

Comments about JVC HA-NC250 Stereo Noise-Cancelling Headphones:
The key thing to note about noise cancellation is to understand how it works. Most noise cancellation systems are tuned to cancel out droning, repetitive white noise such as caused by trains and planes. They don't cancel out too many other sounds that you might actually want to hear. With this in mind, these JVC headphones do a great job at reducing (not completely eliminating - very few things will do that) noise while on the train or long flights and offer excellent value for money compared to a number of leading brands.
Additional plus points - decent audio quality, NO electronics/battery module on the cable (battery goes into the right hand side) that will weigh you down. Airline adapter supplied. Comfortable for hours and hours of long flights.
Wish they would include iPhone compatible volume controls and button like the official Apple headphones do, that would make this product truly perfect.

Comments about JVC HA-NC250 Stereo Noise-Cancelling Headphones:
I would call these noise "REDUCING", not noise canceling headphones. But they are really comfortable, reasonably priced, and work well. The cable is a tad bit short, but one can always purchase a replacement.I use these to reduce the amount of noise in my workplace while I grade audio assignments. The sound quality is really quite transparent, neither adding or taking away characteristics inherent in the sound. unplugging and monitoring through my computer sound system, or even the Event Studio 20 20Ps in the main room, I'm not hearing any drastic changes in frequency. Good enough!

Excellent noise cancellation on aiplane, bus to work, walking downtown when heavy traffic yet still enough sound so you are aware of people if they talk to you. These are a fraction of the cost of more expensive active noise cancelling headsets highly recommend

My husband had a pair and loved them. Used them for plane rides and just listening to music over his computer while the TV was on in the room. Said they cut the back ground noise just as well as my Bose did. Then the new puppy got hold of them. Pooch will be gifting him the new ones for X-Mas. Happy holidays.

I wanted these to listen to podcasts while doing chores and errands. So I was not that concerned about its ability to render perfect tonality. They do sound better than earbuds for music, that is sure. They are perfect to be able to listen to podcasts when vacuming and walking around a noisy neighborhood with the subway and vehicles going by. But still allows for you to hear enough traffic noise not to be dangerous.

I purchased these cans based on several positive reviews and a reasonable price. They looked good out of the box and came with a nice case. However the buzzing, hum of the active noise-cancellation was too much for my ears. I expect silence during the silent parts. They might be okay on a roaring plane ride but not for less extreme situations. The background noise from active "noise-cancelling" technology is a ironic downer. I would suggest listening before buying any active set. Personally I am off to purchase a set with passive noise-cancelling such as the B&W P5 or Sennheiser HD 25 1 ii.

I bought these phones to listen to music and podcasts on my iPhone while train commuting. It's a terrific set of headphones with good clear bass response. The noise-cancelling can be turned on and off with a switch located on one earpiece. While it doesn't completely cancel out the noise (trains can be really noisy!), it does a good enough job that one can easily concentrate on the audio and 'lose' the extraneous sounds. The unit folds flat and comes in a zipable semi-hard case. I also record voiceover auditions with my iPhone while traveling (using the terrifice iRig mic), and the JVC makes a handy set of ears for that.

I use it when I'm doing film editing, when noise cancelling is ON it doesn't block out all the sound but once u start concentrating. You lose all the ambient and all you can hear are your thing your playing fro ur headphones.
Helps concentration, nice crisp audio quality.
Stil haevn't find a comfortable way of wearing for aLONG period of time...

Comments about JVC HA-NC250 Stereo Noise-Cancelling Headphones:
I get this product to listen to my Android phone on the road to work. It has a good balanced frequency response. Noise reduction function is OK. It was defined as 85% noise reduction. That's quite acceptable for comfort. However, there is one important thing I have to mention. Especially it is seen while listening to classical music. When noise cancellation is ON, there is a problem of sound quality especially at medium frequencies while listening to instruments like piano or cello. Their timbre are not clean and are distorted. When the noise cancellation is turned OFF, the timbre of the notes become better. I do not recommend this phone to classical music lovers. Since it has an on-the-ear design after a long (ten hours plae trip) it may be uncomfortable to wear.

These are my first pair of over-the-ear headphones. First and most importantly, the audio quality is absolutely excellent and, in my opinion, lacks for nothing.I will say, though, that manufacturers should accurately label them as "ambient noise canceling" because while they do a great job of minimizing ambient noise--and I took them on a flight and they did a heck of a job reducing engine noise--you can still hear non-ambient noises quite clearly. And a word of caution: there is no volume control or mic on the wire, meaning if you're riding your bike or have your iPhone in your bag, the only way you can adjust the volume is on the iPhone, so not exactly convenient.Ultimately, though, I'm satisfied with the [$] I spent on these.

Comments about JVC HA-NC250 Stereo Noise-Cancelling Headphones:
I haven't tried those more expensive noise-cancelling headphones before but after trying this one, I don't see any reason why you had to.
This does the job. I tried it one quiet night when I was close to our furnace and it totally masked the small rumbling noise being generated.I was just an arms lenght away. Had to remove it from my ears and put it back on in the process to totally hear the difference and it's such an amazing little thing.
That's my first "noise-cancelling" job I had it done. I actually purchased it for my vacation flight soon here and right now I can't wait to actually use it for it's intended application. I'll update this review accordingly in case some negative experience with the item come up.
The lenght of the cord is just right. The fact that you can totally detach it from the headphone unit is also a big plus.
You can use it without the battery and in off position but I found out that it does make the sound more alive and hear more detail when you slide the noise-cancelling switch to on position. Sort of a "surround sound" effect if you will.
Removing and replacing the battery isn't too bad at all. Just realized that you have to remove the entire foam enlosure, not just the covering.
Hope this helps.

First chance to use these was on a trip home from Christmas and I noticed in the boarding area that there were 11 kids under 5 and a dog about to get on the plane. I started dreading the noise and crying that would ensue but I didn't hear a single noise after I put my headphones on. It made my flight 100 times more enjoyable.

Very good headphones for the price. If you can't afford the bose quiet comfort then these are the next best. Would be nice if they fit around my ears better, but maybe I have big ears. Anyways I liked the headphones, with the case and accessories. Just be careful when you put the battery in the right headphone, can be a little tricky! Otherwise very good product for this price. Very decent price for good quality headphones.

Bad things: always need to be ready with spare battery, noise cancelling and sound quality drops without power.

The price of these may seem high to some. But they do the job when it comes to cancelling out that noise that you do not want to hear on the train or plane. They are good quality and are very compact and come with a case.
