The Cullmann Medium Quick Release Assembly can be used to add quick release capability to any tripod head that doesn't come supplied with a built-in quick release system. The plate offers a supporting surface adequate for mid-size SLR cameras or consumer camcorders. The assembly comes with two bubble levels, to assure accurate horizontal and vertical alignment. Supplied with a 1/4"-20 camera screw, as well as a spring loaded video pin.

Comments about Cullmann Medium Quick Release Assembly:
I use this product on my heavy duty tripod head. I lost the rubber pad to the head and the screw that goes into the camera can fall free. The quick release assembly ensures that I will not loose this screw and provides quick release capability.

Comments about Cullmann Medium Quick Release Assembly:
Got this to put on an older Bogen tripod for the ease of quick release. First, the instructions on installation are pretty much useless.(Instructions are a few pictures.) I didn't think it was going to work at all and then got 2 friends (one a carpenter all round handy guy) and, given some time, the 3 of us figured it out. The mechanism for clicking the camera/plate onto the release mechanism works really nicely - solid connection. However, the whole gizmo needs to be tightened up very frequently. The release part (as opposed the the plate that screws into the camera) loosens up easily and, even when tightened seems to rotate a bit.
It's not perfect but it's a "fix" short of buying a whole new tripod and head. Just takes some moment to moment maintenance to not be surprised when flipping to portrait mode and finding the camera pointing to the ground (a difficult angle to tighten it up since the weight of the camera pulls on it). All said, I'm happy I have it.

Comments about Cullmann Medium Quick Release Assembly:
I used a Cullman quick release system for decades. When my last tripod mount broke, I discovered it was replaced by this device. I was skeptical at first, but now I'm a believer. It's much smaller than the old mount, but also considerably more secure. The metal mount provides more security physically and psychologically. It screws onto the tripod using a standard thread, but also supports a larger bore size for, I assume, more specialized mounts.
Once you secure the square plate to you camera, one motion enables you to connect it to the tripod mount. The spring loaded locking mechanism includes a pin which, when depressed by the mounting plate, wedges a small arm against the plate, locking it in place.
Once locked in, the plate can't be accidentally dislodged. Whereas the old system required a flick of the thumb to unlock, this new mechanism requires your thumb and forefinger to squeeze open the locking lever. I found this awkward at first, but quickly grew accustomed to the change.
Although the system comes with only one mounting plate, acquiring others is easy (especially when it uses the same design as in the previous model). Put one one each camera and it takes seconds to switch from one to the other.
I don't use levels, so the fact that they're included on the device did not influence my buying decision. However, I am impressed that it has THREE levels; enabling it to used in the horizontal AND vertical positions.
Someone really took the time to think through photographers' requirements when designing this device. I'll now be looking to Cullmann for other innovative designs.

Solid quick release for my camera and lens. Sure a great improvement over the screw attachment.
