I travel all over NYC filming classical musicians, and this tripod is with me every time.

It's light but sturdy frame make it perfect for turning on the camera and just leaving it, knowing the shot will be still.

It's not a pan/tilt machine, so don't expect anything smooth, but for the size, weight and price, it does plenty to make me happy.

The carrying case was an unexpected bonus. It is equally sturdy and has a strap to throw it across your back.

I bought this in January and used it for still shots. In June I began shooting video and quickly discovered a huge problem with this tripod. It seems the "Fluid Head" is not so fluid after all. It sticks just enough to cause the video to jump when panning. I sprayed lubricant everywhere and it didn't help. Because it was too late to return it, I paid $$$ to send it back to Tiffen (under warranty). A month later I received a new tripod. It does the same thing. I am now into this thing for almost $50 and give up. The odds of having two with the same problem are low enough to signify an inherent manufacturing defect. I'll continue use it for stills, but had to buy another one for video.

Comments about Vista by Davis & Sanford Ranger Tripod:

Maximum height and weight that can carry a lower price compared to other models cheaper. If you are not a professional and affordable for you if you are looking for a tripod. Use in different environments in ways I never had any problems and very easy to use.

Comments about Vista by Davis & Sanford Ranger Tripod:

I purchased this for mounting my binoculars for stargazing, and it unfortunately is not tall enough for viewing objects very high in the night sky. It's entirely my fault though, as it is a realatively tall tripod, and the height was clearly listed among the specs on the website, I just underestimated my needs. (By the way, the B&H website has a very nice search feature, which allows sorting by tripod height.)

Setting that aside, I've used it a half dozen times, and appears well-built and and has been well-functioning. The pan & tilt and the rack & pinion center column height all work fine. It holds my (modest sized 8x40) binoculars nice and steady, and I can now clearly make out the moons of Jupiter! For normal photos and video I'm sure it'll be great, but I probably wouldn't use it if I needed to take video where super-smooth panning was necessary.

The tripod is light, and reasonably stable, folds up reasonably small, has a nice carrying case, and... the price cannot be beat. I considered returning it once I decided I'll ultimately need something taller, but I figured it was so cheap I might as well keep it as a second tripod rather than pay to ship it back, and use it, say, for bird-watching or taking group photos.

Comments about Vista by Davis & Sanford Ranger Tripod:

I was very pleased with this tripod despite the CSR at B & H trying to talk me out of it. He said it was only strong enough for supporting a point and shoot camera but I find it to be VERY STURDY for my Canon SLR with telephoto lens. The legs are thick and extend easily. It is a great value and can hardly go wrong for the price. Much better than my old tripod...I'm sure glad I followed by gut instinct instead of listening to that CSR trying to upsell me.

You get what you pay for. So, far works well. Not light not heavy, somewhere in b/w. Feels just fine, nothing special. If you plan to use only occasionaly than it will be the right choice.

I have had a variety of tripods over the last few years both high end, heavy duty and small, compact but, this was by far the best buy that I have had the joy of purchasing . At first I was skeptical of the quality of the product due to the low price but, I decided to give it a try as there was little to lose. I was astounded to find that such an affordable tripod was so well crafted. The aluminum construction means a very lightweight item as well as lending a sense of strength that can't be matched by the plastic models of other companies and the quick release head is perfect for fast paced work and for slow deliberate shooting. The snap lock legs also allow for quick setup and adjustment. This product a also is perfect for the taller than average photographer while giving a great range of height and adjustment. it's compact design allows for it to be easily transported and store almost anywhere. All in all a quality product for a bargain price.

Used it to shoot the fireworks on the 4th of July on the Hudson. Had to walk to see them, so with this tripod being so light, it wasn't that bad to carry. Easy set up and take down. I have a lighter camera so that helps. If you had a heavier camera, might not be the best tripod for you.

For an inexpensive tripod this will do the job. It is obviously not a high dollar unit so it wont provide fluid action like those, but for a small camcorder it does an excellent job. The built in carrying handle is a plus and it comes with a storage bag. It also folds up very small and is easy to use.

I haven't use it a lot yet, but it is nice light weight, easy to set up, and it comes with a bag to store or carry it with you. I primarily got it for taking shots in low light or at night.

Not going to take a lot of abuse, and the tripod head doesn't always move fluid. Decent for the price we paid
