After researching and comparing lots of tripods I decided that the Vista is the best compromise between price and pro-features: it is the most flexible and professional tripod in its price range. Now I have used it for a while, I am really glad that I made the purchase. I mainly use it for studio work. It is very sturdy with my D80 plus the battery grip and 18-200 VR lens on top; all movements are smooth yet lock-in tight. The build quality is decent, with every part made out of metal except the leg section locks. The leg locking levers feel kind of lose, but so far they have been locking tight. It is very light-weight; I bet I can carry it all day without getting a sore shoulder. The carrying case is slightly padded and fits the tripod perfectly with the handles removed. As a bonus surprise, the head attachment fitting comes in both 3/8' and 1/4' sizes; so don't have to worry about getting a bushing. Personally I would like it to be a little more compact (folded length is 28'), but it is not that big of a deal. Bottom line is, this is a "pro-sumer" tripod; it gives you the flexibility and versatility of a professional tripod without breaking your "piggy bank". Highly recommended for someone serious about photography.

This isn't the best tripod but it works and isn't that horrible for the price. It is equipped with a fluid head. This head is a little tough and jerky to move, its not smooth, it is tight even when you loosen all the clamps. For the price its not bad. If you use this a lot the joints were the heads are attached to each other they start to leak fluid. Its pretty stable though I don't have a problem there. I use this for both video and photos and it works.

Comments about Vista by Davis & Sanford Attaras Grounder Tripod with 3-Way Pan/Tilt Head:

The only reason this isn't a 5-star review is because there is a very important accessory missing in the bag. Both hex keys provided didn't work with the tripod so I am unable to tighten/loosen it, which means I have to purchase the right hex key. There was also a tiny bit of excess oil around the joints. Otherwise, great product.

Comments about Vista by Davis & Sanford Attaras Grounder Tripod with 3-Way Pan/Tilt Head:

I bought this tripod for an architectural photography internship, as I was on a tight budget and this had everything I needed. I bought the tripod in 2010 (think it went by a slightly different name, but it's definitely the same one).

Over about 12 weeks I used it for 35-40 shoots, both indoors and outdoors. The tripod received constant adjustment without complaint and did a great job of stabilizing a mid-sized camera with a heavier wide-angle on it.

On literally one of the last shots of my last shoot of the internship, I was taking the camera off the tripod to grab some detail shots when the quick release handle snapped clean off. The aluminum actually cracked and broke, and at a close glance I could see how thin/inconsistent the aluminum was. Luckily I had a screw driver and was able to loosen what was left of the little handle and remove my camera to finish the shoot. I figured I'd gotten my money's worth.

It's now almost the end of 2013 and I still have the tripod and it still gets plenty of use. I just sort of have to jimmy the quick release, but it still locks in place and is secure. I have no concern I'll drop my camera, but I keep the strap around the legs so it won't fall far if it does.

I plan on getting a new head for it soon, and keep the legs in service until they break or fall apart. I keep all the joints lubed up, and despite seeing snow, saltwater, sand; running rivers, backcountry adventures and fairly strenuous professional use, they are still rock solid. If the head would have stuck together, this tripod would easily deserve 5-stars. I can happily say I've gotten my money out of this tripod. I don't know that I'll ever replace it, but something lighter would be nice for travel and certain adventures.

Comments about Vista by Davis & Sanford Attaras Grounder Tripod with 3-Way Pan/Tilt Head:

I am a beginner photographer and videographer. I use this tripod primarily for my small business - filming speaking events, taking headshots as well as some shots for hobby purposes.

As a new user, I felt that this tripod was very easy to use, understand, and set up easily. The adjustments are pretty smooth and relatively easy. For my purposes, the weight isn't a big issue and being a small person, I felt the weight is fairly manageable.
So far, I do not have any major complaints about this tripod. Everything came as pictured, including a tripod bag, which has already been useful. For the price, I feel I have purchased a good value product.

I bought this to use with my digital SLR for photos and video. It is not too heavy and seems quite sturdy. However, it is not great for video. The panning mechanism can be sticky when moving horizontally or vertically. But then again, this is a fairly inexpensive tripod.

Just a rookie photographer looking for the best tripod for the money. I found it in this product, it's easy to open, close down, and very sturdy. I've recently started an interest in HDR photos, and this tripod has stood up to all my tests.
the only complaint I have is that when using the pan if I go counter clockwise it seems to loosen the the head from the legs regardless of how loose I make the pan function.

Needed an inexpensive, lightweight tripod to support my rather heavy Canon 60D w. 18-200 mm lens for HDR photography. This is a solid, well constructed tripod, with quick release. I don't do any video work, therefore a fluid head was not among my priorities.

This tripod fits my needs very well.

you get what you pay for..
it looks good and all but it`s made cheap.. really cheap. they way the main column deploys is a pain. you have to unscrew that thing alot, then screw it back to max or it spin while you pan the camera. the grease they use is bad.. its like glue.. if you pan or tilt the camera and don`t screw the adjustment back to max, it tends to move back by itself. so, for the price its ok, but if i knew how it was before, i would have saved to buy a better one.

Great tripod for a reasonable price. Light enough to travel with, sturdy enough for my 7D + lens, after a little practice, the double pan handle set up is really useful.

This is a good tripod for the price range. I wanted to spend about $40, but I spent an extra $25 and got a tripod that will last for a while and works for the few times I like to shoot with a tripod. It's not top of the line professional, but if your looking for something quick and reliable, this is it.

When my Bogen Manfrotto 3001n recently broke, I decided to look for a new support for my Nikon D200 & 18-200mm VR lens. Thanks to the VR capability of my lens, I don't use a tripod that often, but on the times I do, I want a solidly constructed unit. After considerable research, particularly of customer reviews, I decided on the Vista Attaras Grounder since the lowest rating of the 42 listed was 4 star. Well, add me to the 5 star rating. This is great tripod for an incredible price! Solidly, securely supports my camera outfit. Is it as good as a $250+ tripod? Probably not, but I honestly doubt that they are 3+ times better than the Attaras for most users in the VR/IS era.
