It can carry out nearly 100% accurate OCR (Optical Character Recognition) with 128 different languages, plus it can recognize multiple number systems and even scientific or mathematical formulas. The Executive 6 can also recognize hand printed letters & numbers, and provides Image Adjustment for scanning poor quality or damaged documents. Furthermore, you'll be able to scan small images such as logos, signatures, or graphics into your document with the IRISPen Executive handheld scanner.

Read Text and Numbers
Scan words, sentences, or excerpts off printed materials into your computer with Up to 100% OCR accuracy. The IRISPen reads virtually any font, in a wide variety of styles and point sizes (from 8 to 20 points), as well as special characters, reading marks, special symbols, and formatting elements such as vertical lines separating table cells.
Handprinting Recognition
TheIRISPen Executive 6 can read hand printed numbers and/or hand printed letters.
Unique OCR Technology
The IRISPen Executive 6 optimizes OCR accuracy and speed and even reads wavy and distorted images with its unique line tracking technology. Plus the Small print option provides optimized results when reading small printed text, with a font size smaller than 10 points.
Scan Multiple Lines
The Multiple Lines option is used to scan multiple lines at a time, and is particularly usefull when scanning full excerpts from book, magazines, etc.
Recognizes 128 Languages
The IRISPen scans and recognizes an incredibly vast number of foreign languages including all American and European languages such as Spanish, French, Greek, Turkish, the Cyrillic ("Russian") and even the Baltic languages and Hebrew are also supported.
Barcode Recognition
The IRISPen Executive supports the ability to read all common barcode standards and types, including the 2D barcodes PDF 417 and QR barcode; plus it supports bearer bars drawn around the barcodes. The IRISPen Executive 6 can even recognize the CMC 7 font that is often used on banking documents.
Speech Synthesis
After Scanning, the included software can then read the text aloud to quickly verify the OCR accuracy, or aid in recognition of the spoken language. Speech Synthesis is possible with Portuguese, British English, Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, and Russian. The speech synthesis feature is available in the language that was chosen at the installation for speech synthesis.
Scan Images in Grayscale
Logos, signatures, or any small graphics are quickly scanned into your document with the IRISPen express handheld scanner. Furthermore, a Dot Matrix option is available to make the pen read dot matrix symbols (i.e. symbols that consist of isolated, separated dots)
Smart Wizard
Scan text, numbers or small images - quickly and easily - with the intuitive wizard that guides you through the process. The IRISPen wizard offers the quickest and easiest way of defining your settings. It proposes a series of templates with pre-defined settings means for the reading of certain types of data: text, text from columns, numeric tables, etc. These templates can be either used as such, or modified to fit more particular needs. The Smart Wizard also provides an image quality check window, to help ensure that the scanning process has worked properly.
Powerful Image Adjustment
The image adjustment features enable users to optimize the image generated with the pen for the recognition process. These options will be particularly useful if you scan very poor quality, partially damaged or low-contrast documents where the background virtually has the same color as the text.
User Preset Templates & Profiles
Up to 3 (modified) templates can be assigned to a preset button directly accessible from the application window, so when it comes to actually capturing a certain type of data, all you need to do is press the right preset button.
Define Delimiters
With the delimiters you can indicate how the scanned lines must be delimited for reading. For example, how hyphens should be interpreted when occurring at the end of a line.
Keyboard Shortcuts
Easily assign typical or customized keyboard commands to the two buttons on this handheld scanner for quick access to the function you use most. By simply pressing the pen buttons, you will thus be able to execute 5 operations: Null, Enter, Space, Tab, Undo Last Scan.
Unlimited Applications
Whether you are working on a Windows and Mac system with Excel, Word, Emails, Text Editors, you name it - if you can type it in, you can scan it in with the IRISPen.
Simple USB Connection
Directly connect the IRISPen to the USB port of a PC, notebook, Tablet PC and Macintosh - it uses an easy Plug & Play installation, and is powered by the USB port, so there is no need for an external power supply.

Comments about IRISPen Executive 6 Pen Scanner:

Not yet anyway. My primary objective is to scan single lines of hand-written block letters from a field notebook into Access or Excel. I would like this scan to produce editable text for further manipulation. Secondly, I'd like to scan the text of miscellaneous scribblings of my notes. For this just images would be an acceptable result. All of my notes would be made outside but I haven't gotten that far yet; I'm still stuck indoors trying to make it work. So far I have been unable to recover useable scans without a boatload of extra garbage text in the output. I accidentally bought 2 versions of this pen scanner, The Executive Pen & the Iris6 Express. Up to now neither has performed better than the other. Remember, I really want this to work because of the potential advantage of avoiding tedious transcribing into the PC. I haven't given up yet and the pens are sensitive to slight changes in one's personal technique of scan speed, background, handling and several settings. I will report further if I reach a useful level of success. Note: I felt the reviews I read fell mostly into the poor or great categories. I decided enough were positive to give it a try. Am I expecting too much? -SD

It is a great product. Copy & paste right on my MS Word project. My only problem: sometime the outcome is gibberish.
                  However I am satisfied.

I would recommend this product to humanities students who collect quotes and fragments from many different textual sources.
When conditions are not trying, it does the job well.
However, if the page is uneven (e.g., paperback) it might start to hiccup. It feels very light and fragile (cheaply made?), and when it fails you, there's not much to do...

Haven't tried it yet with hand-writing nor bar-codes.

Comments about IRISPen Executive 6 Pen Scanner:

I took the chance and bought this product. While I have not as yet applied it to my original intent, which was to copy lines of text from a paperback copy of Das Capital as well as other books like it for the sake of summarizing important information, I have been copying text out of a large, flat legal text book for a class, which is greatly speeding up the process of input. I am also inputting pages from a company handbook, which I would have never done had I been forced to type them. While it reads what I input if I choose to turn on my stereo, it does not do multiple lines at the same time, nor does it read handwriting, in the sense that it does not take handwritten text and then enter it in my word processor as text, instead it shows up on the screen as a scanned image, which at increments of single or double lines these images can be saved and pasted into a document as a series of images, which is a bit impractical. I am using it with an iMac. I am very happy with it. It amazes me. I am left-handed, so I draw it from right to left and it takes a line in and then types it. Imagine reading something backwards and then closing your eyes and reading it forwards. Still, I am disappointed with the ambiguous statement: "TheIRISPen Executive 6 can read hand printed numbers and/or hand printed letters." It cannot in the sense that it does not translate this into text. What this means is that it is no better, I assume, than the more elemental version. It's only benefit over the other one, is the speaking qualification, which may come in handy, where in my case I have not wanted to look up but finish a number of paragraphs, for example. Hearing that it was making sense assured me that it was working. I bought the pen from B&H for about $89 [...]. "Whether you are working on a Windows and Mac system with Excel, Word, Emails, Text Editors, you name it - if you can type it in, you can scan it in with the IRISPen." This is true. In general, this technology is further advancing my ability to include matter from a number of sources, a bit like cutting and pasting from the Internet onto a Word document.I am very impressed. Its accuracy is usually contingent upon my providing enough light, whether or not the surface is consistent, and whether or not I provide an even drift, but really I don't seem to have that many problems. I love this product. I hope the seemingly fragile running wheel hangs in there. I hope the light continues to work. But really, it is amazing.

Comments about IRISPen Executive 6 Pen Scanner:

Ok I had read some reviews about the iris pen on other sites but hadn't seen many reviews about the executive 6. Which is unfortunate because this was really what I was interested in. Firstly I decided on the executive because of its ability to read multiple lines at once, I figured it would allow me to scan pages of text a lot faster. I really didn't care about the barcode reader. And secondly, I really liked its ability to scan images etc, this comes in real handy when someone has sent me a letter, I can easily scan the company logo and their signature. This pen has many features which I read about on the company's website and [...] and I'm glad I chose to get this pen in the end. If you are considering buying this pen then I recommend doing as much research as you can and work out which pen is best for you. I use a mac, and it was great that this pen also works with macs! When I first started using the pen there were a few errors but it just takes some getting used to, then I can scan little snippets of information (including hand written text) with almost 100% accuracy everytime.

As an MBA student I spend countless hours taking notes and writing papers. The IrisPen is a big time saver. Obtaining accuracy does require some practice (with how you hold it and move it). Additionally, it can be difficult to scan material on the inside of the page (near the binding) because the tip is relatively large and it requires downward pressure and perfect angles. The programmable buttons help with an "undo last scan" feature. Other button inputs, such as 'enter' and 'tab', are very slow and almost useless. Pen feels very flimsy and software included is very basic.
