Never, ever, leave on a trip without a spare! My original one was dropped and stepped on, i.e. broken! I had to improvise something, DUCT TAPE to the rescue! Problem was, sometimes it worked, sometimes the battery lost contact and the picture was gone! Now, with every battery I buy, I get another Nikon BL-4! 1 battery, 1 BL-4. I won't miss the Humpback Whale breaching next time I see a 1 in a 1,000,000 picture. Oh, I still take duct tape with me, just in case. Don't take the whole roll, put strips on the outside of your hard side luggage. Always Be Prepared!

Appears to be the D3S version now with the larger latch. I keep three batteries for my D3S with these installed on each battery permanently. I have one spare with the old smaller D3 latch in storage case as a spare, but never need it.

I replaced a worn out BL-4 cover for my D3. This replacement did the trick. Makes my camera look brand new!

The D3s doesn't work very well without this piece. And since it's removeable...it can get lost. Why take a chance? Also is handy to have a replacement battery already mounted on this, as others have said.

I use it with a EN-EL4a attached, for the Nikon D3S. Easy to change batteries on the fly, saves a lot of time and hassle going through your bag or vest to find two components.A must have, cause if you break the one that came with the camera you're [*]! You cannot shoot without it. Shame that Nikon doesn't include a spare one with a $5200 camera!!!Be careful with the latch mechanism, it's a little fragile!

You shouldn't need to have spares of this handy however the reality is that the little release handles break very easily. Could be designed better considering their use.

Nice to have for using the EN-EL4/EN-EL4a in the Nikon D3 line of DSLR. Easy to change batteries as one unit and not having to handle a battery and cover separately.Works great in areas like the Everglades or heavy wooded areas like the Smoky Mountains where if you drop something small like a battery cover you might loose it.Nice to have one or two extras.I have four.

My battery door had a slight crack in it and ordered this as a replacement. Nikon was really smart in making this part so easily replaceable, and BH had the lowest price of all the other reputable venders out there for this product.

There's not really much to say, but I keep breaking the lever for opening the batterycompartement. I wish there was a built in spring that kept it in.

At least they're cheap

When one is on a shoot and needs to changed a battery quickly this is a must. I absolutley recommend this item!

Although not needed, it makes having multiple batteries more convenient because you do not have to switch the cover from battery to battery when you change batteries. Well made, and fits like a glove as should be expected.

The only down side is that it cannot be used with older D2 series cameras.

You'd think with a $4k+ camera you get a spare but what can you do. This is great to have around for a couple of reasons. It makes changing batteries a snap. Also, if the one that came with your camera breaks, it's nice to have if having the camera work is important to you. DONT LEAVE HOME WITHOUT IT!

This is something anyone with a D3 should own. It not only makes exchanging batteries easier (by keeping it attached to your spare battery), but it the original cover ever broke your D3 would be unusable without one.

I bought the BL-4 Battery Chamber Cover by Nikon for each of my batteries to have attached at all times. If you loose this cover the D3 will not work. I highly recommend getting this for each of your batteries.

The battery chamber cover is for use with the EL-4A battery and the D3. I purchased two of these and they matched seemlessly with the battery and the camera body.

I plop a couple extra of these on the end of my spare batteries so the battery and chamber cover are one piece and it's a quick battery change.

For $5,000 on a D3, they should include a few extra covers in the box..At least one would be decent. I just think that having to order a few of these is Nikon nickel and diming here.

The product is good. I worry about breaking off the little twist lock but overall it seems like it has a fairly decent build quality about it.

Nikon used to be known for backward compatibility, such that lenses and accessories from older products worked in the newer units. That remains true of Nikkor lenses, but lately, the release of a new professional body meant that one had to buy a new E screen, remote, flash, and batteries. With the Nikon D3, however, the En-El4 and 4a batteries used with the D2 will work with the D3 with just this end cap. Yeah!!!
