Product Highlights
  • For Nikon D300s, D300 & D700

The Nikon MB-D10 Multi-Power Battery Grip allows the Nikon D300s, D300 & D700 to be powered by two EN-EL3e batteries (sequentially) - one in the camera body and one in the MB-D10 - effectively doubling your shooting capacity. The MB-D10 also provides a comfortable vertical grip with an additional shutter release and scroll wheel for easy access to the camera functions when shooting in the vertical orientation. It is also fairly compact, with dimensions of 5.9 x 2.9 x 1.7" (15 x 75 x 45mm).

With the included MS-D10 AA battery holder, users can power the camera with 8 AA batteries.  Or, use the Nikon EN-EL4 or EN-EL4A battery (sold separately) combined with the optional BL-3 Battery Chamber Cover and obtain a higher frame advance rate (8 Frames per second in the D300) than what the EN-EL3e battery can provide.

Just wanted to comment on something I have not seen much written on. This product is a very well made grip, shutter release and control. MUCH better built than the D200 grip, no wobbling or flimsiness. It really completes the camera and for that reason alone I would buy it.

Due to the really excellent battery life in the D300 (and now D700), I am easily getting through an afternoon of portrait sessions with just one in-camera battery, 1000+ shots. The design allows you to use the in-camera battery without relocating it from the camera into the grip, and just use this grip itself with an EMPTY battery tray. While it is not a huge amount of weight on a scale, it feels much lighter and still is balanced in my hands. Much less fatigue. My D200 grip made you remove the camera battery and put it (and another battery) into the grip to use it. The D200 being a power-hungry camera took two or more batteries to get through the same work.

This makes the weight difference between the grip-equipped D700 the D3 huge at this point. I also love the versatility of having this one grip (and only buying one RRS plate) and using it on either the 300 or the 700.

To be fair, and precise...you have to remove the grip to change the in-camera battery, but for me I am not in a rush and like the lightweight advantage. Also the camera-grip combo is "chunkier" in your hands than the sculpted D3 shape, but my big mitts are very comfortable. I also like the handy little case that Nikon includes with the grip to hold the alternate battery tray that you aren't currently using.

While I do shoot some action stuff, I have the option of throwing either AAs or my spare D3 battery (after Nikon sells you special end cap for the EN-EL4 battery to fit in this MB-D10 grip), and I am at 8fps.

I would strongly recommend to those folks who do not already own the EN-EL4 batteries and charger from a D2X or D3 to save your money and use eight AAs. Same 8 fps speed, and I did not kill my 2500 mah Ni-MH for a whole afternoon of shooting, easily over 2500 shots. Admittedly, the AA are significantly heavier than the EN-EN4.

If you do still want the pro EN-EL4 batteries, realize that the charger, a couple batteries and the special BL-4 end cap to fit this grip will run you about double you pay for this grip...no kidding. Honestly, this compatibility with the EN-EL4 batteries was done as a convenience to pros who already own them from earlier cameras. Makes no sense whatsoever to buy that rig from scratch, when 8 NiMH AAs and a charger can be had for just a few dollars. Use the AAs on your grip and get a new SB-900 with the money you just saved!

Call me nostalgic buy I really liked the battery access on the battery grips for the D100 & D200 a lot better. To use 2 batteries, means having to remove the MB-D10 to access the battery in the camera as well as removing the one from the MB-D10 and then putting it all back together. The multi-function selector knob has more of a joystick feel and is kinda touchy.

It does provide a better grip for bigger hands, which is why I bought it, and it works but a redesign would be nice.

Comments about Nikon MB-D10 Multi-Power Battery Grip:

Not much to say. I bought the Nikon Grip and not the lesser expensive knock off and I am not sorry. The quality is what I expected from Nikon and I did not want to take a chance to save a few, well a chunk of change. It really make handling my 300s easier when the 80-400 is on it.

        Great for vertical shots !
For longer power availability too !
Very well designed for a precise fit.
Adds weight for better balance with long lenses.
I don't know how I "lived" without it before !!!

So far so good. My camera seems much more balanced especially with the heavier lens.

Debated whether to go the 3rd party route, but glad I went with the Nikon Grip. No regrets. Used AA batteries to get 8 fps

Comments about Nikon MB-D10 Multi-Power Battery Grip:

I was grabbing my camera bag off a table and did not realize that my bag was open. My D700 with a Nikon 35-70 2.8 slipped out and hit the concrete floor. Luckily, it hit on the plastic corner of the battery tray. The force was such that the 35-70 snapped in two, although it never actually hit anything. The MB-D10 had a minor (.5 mm X .5 cm) paint chip, but was otherwise unharmed. The D700 was actually unharmed.

Comments about Nikon MB-D10 Multi-Power Battery Grip:

My only gripe about the product is to load or change the 2nd battery, the product must be removed from the camera. It adds a little weight to the camera but you get additional button and scroll wheels for vertical shooting. As far as frame rate changes, I havent studied that yet.

How come every different Nikon camera takes a different battery grip. I imagine it is good marketing but it surely is a pain. Having said that, B&H has the stock, gives the best advise and generslly has the best price.

Comments about Nikon MB-D10 Multi-Power Battery Grip:

Love it. Haven't used it much so reliability is unknown, ditto for longevity. If Nikon quality is consistent, this battery grip will suit me fine. It fits my hand(s) better than my girlfriend's hands. Mine are big; hers are not. If you have little hands you might not like it. Which is hard for me to imagine, but then I have big hands.

I was at the auto show and dropped my Nikon from 3 foot high onto a Cement floor. Porsche should think about changing the step at their display. Well the camera hit and the battery door opened as the camera slid 20 foot across the floor. Still worked fine along with the camera. Purchased a second one to keep with my spare camera. Tuff Stuff Nikon builds.

Comments about Nikon MB-D10 Multi-Power Battery Grip:

I understand that this grip cost more then other brand grips, but you get what you pay for. This grip fits my Really Right Stuff L bracket like a glove and feels good in my hands. It is constructed really well and looks like it will out last my camera.

Comments about Nikon MB-D10 Multi-Power Battery Grip:

Well-built and very durable. Overpriced for what it is(a Nikon tradition) so it gets 4 stars(not because it makes an already heavy camera even heavier). Love having the full shooting controls in portrait orientation! Plus, it just works with no hitches, unlike the Chinese 3rd-party grip I bought for my D40x that has a real wierd way of activating it. My main complaint: You should be able to put BOTH batteries in the grip instead of one in the grip and one in the camera(Can*n) knows how to do this, why not Nikon???

Comments about Nikon MB-D10 Multi-Power Battery Grip:

This grip is so sweet. Not only do you get the extra battery power for long sessions but the handling of the camera is so much more comfortable for those with bigger hands. The ability to flip the camera for portraits with all the controls in comfortable position is another added benefit!

I bought this grip for my D300s, and while I havent used it much yet, I do like the way it balances out my camera. I have gotten used to holding my F5, and having a portrait grip just feels right to me now. I like having command wheels plus (which the F5 does not have). Yes it is a little pricy over the other (off) brands, but at least I know I am getting Nikon quality.
