The AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED Lens from Nikon is an ultra wide-angle zoom lens with a constant f/2.8 maximum aperture that delivers edge-to-edge sharpness, high contrast and is a staple in the kits of advanced Nikon shooters. It features Nano Crystal and Super Integrated Coating to improve light transmission and reduce the effects of ghosting and flare. Two ED (Extra-low Dispersion) elements and three aspherical lenses control chromatic and spherical aberrations and combine to enhance sharpness and contrast. Designed for FX format DSLRs it is also compatible with DX-format cameras on which it offers the 35mm focal length equivalence of 21-36mm.

The Silent Wave Motor (SWM) and internal focus system provide swift autofocus with superior accuracy and ultra-quiet operation. This G-type lens does not feature an aperture ring on the lens body, resulting in a lighter and more compact lens. Aperture changes are designed to be done via the camera's command dial. A magnesium alloy build with dust and moisture resistant sealing allow this lens to be used in inclement conditions and a built-in lens hood offers a degree of protection to the otherwise exposed front lens element.

Two ED (Extra-low Dispersion) elements and three aspherical lenses control chromatic aberrations and distortion while enhancing sharpness and contrast.
Exclusive Nano Crystal Coating and Super Integrated Lens Coating reduce ghosting and flare for even greater image clarity.
Nikon's Silent Wave Motor (SWM) uses ultrasonic vibrations-rather than a gear system-to focus the lens, providing incredibly smooth, silent and precise autofocus operation.
Internal Focus (IF) provides fast and quiet auto focusing without changing the length of the lens, retaining subject-working distance through the focus range.
M/A Focus Mode switch enables quick response to changing situations between Auto and Manual focus operation.
Rugged construction and professional-grade dust and moisture resistance.

I bought this lens but sold it after testing it. First off, judging from the sample I received, and after side by side testing, I discovered it to be NOT AS SHARP AS my 1990's Vintage Nikon 20-35 F2.8 This was the main reason I got rid of it. It simply was not optically sharp enough to justify it's other downsides (see below). I know the hype says this lens is the sharpest of the sharp, but this is NOT what I found by any stretch of the imagination.

Yes, sharpness in the far corners was very respectable, but center sharpness was nothing to write home about.

Second downside, and perhaps the biggest disadvantage is the huge exposed front element. I could not relax for a minute walking around with this lens attached to my camera, nor should you.

Finally the lens is huge. You will not get any Henri Cartier type candids with this out on the street. In fact, you WILL get security wondering "what that pro photographer out there is up to".

I honestly feel the 20-35 and 17-35 Nikons are better lenses for most people - by far!

It's new and mounted on a new D750. All kinds of junk is showing up in post. Lens flare and orbs.I have an old throw down Tokina 12-24 mounted on a D300s. That [$] Tokina - bang for the buck - outperforms that [$] Nikon 14-24 ALL DAY. I did the research before buying. Reviews were convincing. It seems to me that the Nikon Kool-Aid is free to drink. I'm a very disappointed.

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED Lens:

I've used this lens for about 2-1/2 months on a D810; roughly 1500 shots, mostly architectural, cityscapes, and some rural landscapes.

This lens is a pleasure to use--super sharp (even at 2.8), great contrast and offers the creative opportunities one expects from a very wide angle lens.

Regarding the lens flare that some reviewers have complained about, it is to be expected with any 14mm lens. Just look at the curve in the front element. It's huge! You have to become aware of how to avoid flare altogether or how to use it creatively. But it is easy enough to avoid and is an optical design issue present in all wide angle lenses.

Anyway, this is a beautiful lens. Built like a tank; fun to use; professional results. Outstanding when paired with the D810.

I use this lens for landscape photography. It offers a unique perspective and is very good in the right circumstances such as urban settings or night sky photography. It is great in low light and produces very sharp pictures. It is a little heavy but manageable. There are no external threads for filters, so protecting the lens with a UV filter is not an real option. There is a filter adapter but it is pretty expensive by itself.

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED Lens:

Purchased this to add to my other two gold ring glasses (Nikkor 24-70 and the Nikkor 70-200). I do a lot of landscape photography, and have been saving up and waiting a long time to make this addition to my gear. Before this, my 24-70 was my work horse and go to lens, however it wasn't wide enough to always capture the whole scene. My workaround was to capture a series of shots and stitch them together in photoshop. However, this does not always prove effective. I have a trip to Northern Finland coming up in just a couple of weeks, and am hoping to catch some Auroras. In this circumstance, you cannot take multiple shots and stitch them as the lights move in the sky. I'm excited to use this lens on the trip to capture as much of the sky as possible.

Bought this lens for shooting interior photography and it is amazing. Yes, it is heavier and you have to be careful with the lens because of the glass but you should always be super careful when you are spending this kind of money on a piece of equipment. So glad I purchased this. :)

I often use this lens when I am walking around in an urban setting or along the shoreline. This lens is laser sharp, with a nice bokeh, and really nice for low light situations with the f/2.8 fixed aperature. I've recently obtained some stunning star trails (astrophotography) using this lens as well. The flanged lens shade is great to protect the protruding lens front and the lens is well constructed for easy and fast autofocusing.

I thought I finished off my wedding lens kit with 24-200 mm range of zoom lenses and a couple of fixed lenses. However, when I was hired to shoot in a situation where space was tight, I rented this lens. After shooting with it for 8 hours, I knew I had to buy it. Beautiful results and now a go to lens from my kit for just about everything.

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED Lens:

Great wide angle lens. Excellent picture quality, fast, and works great in low light level. I had some apprehension about the inability to use a filter to protect the lens, but have been very careful, and my anxiety level has dropped.

I use the lens for perspective control for close in landscapes. It is especially useful in "big sky" shots. Recently I used it to photograph the interior of a million dollar listing for a real estate broker. Shooting 1/5 second exposures off a tripod I was able to get stunning available light shots encompassing large portions of each room with incredible depth of field. It completes the trinity of Nikon zooms; 14-24, 24-70, and 70-200 mm all at f2.8. Incredible!

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED Lens:

In the last year, I have photographed over 600 of South Carolina's terrific collection of historic churches and temples, mostly with a Nikon 17-35/D600 combination. After "being on the fence" for so long as to whether I should purchase a 14-24 when I already have this nice 17-35, I pressed the B&H purchase button, and I am delighted I did. I so have one regret-I wish I had had the 14-24 before starting the project.I am using the lens for both interior and exterior shots. I was in Charleston last week, retook a few with the 14-24, and was impressed by the increased area, the sharpness and crispness of the colors, and the near distortion free images. I am sure a "techie" could break it all down by the numbers (and I read some of the reports), so my soul (pun! pun!) contribution is that for my church and temple project, this is one terrific purchase. I am delighted to have this lens in my collection. I do have one suggestion-do purchase an extra lens cap. I nearly lost the original in Charleston, and the thought of walking the streets with an unprotected $. Spend the few extra bucks.

Have been using this lens for car photography (all film) and honestly the best lens i used to this date from the glass quality to the zoom length. Will be using it more then my 10.5mm fisheye and 24-70mm. Glad to find something in between both of those! Very impressed!

Have used this lense to shoot everything from the Aurora Borealis in Fairbanks AK in sub-zero conditions to office interiors. It is a solid performer! Tack sharp from edge to edge & beautifully soft bokheat wider aperatures. Whats not to like! Lens is solidly built. Only minor complaint is weight.

I am impressed by image quality and lack of flare in the family of three Nikon f/2.8G ED AF zoom lenses. We are known for our back lighted outdoor group portraits and these three lenses are the best that we have ever used. They are worth every penny…but boy are they heavy.

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED Lens:

Recently purchased the 14-24 specifically for landscapes and interior photos. This lens is sharp as a tack. Of course, it is indeed a bit of a specialty lens so you must know how to use it properly or you will see some strange results but once you understand how to properly compose with it, you'll fall in love. Yes, it's a little heavy but it's made well and I'd rather a bit of weight to it than a super light plastic feel.
