Product Highlights
  • Zoom Super Wide Angle

The Nikon AF-S Zoom Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8G ED AF Lens is an extreme ultra-wide zoom, wide-aperture lens that delivers edge-to-corner sharpness that can surpass that of equivalent fixed focal-length lenses. It features a Nano Crystal coating to reduce the effects of ghost and flare, combined with 2 ED (Extra-low Dispersion) elements and PGM aspherical lenses that help control chromatic aberrations. These all combine to enhance sharpness and contrast.

The Silent Wave Motor (SWM) feature provides swift autofocus with superior accuracy and ultra-quiet operation. This G-type lens does not feature an aperture ring on the lens body, resulting in a lighter and more compact lens. Aperture changes are designed to be done via the camera's command dial.

Note:
AF-S feature is not supported by certain older camera models. Please click here for a list of compatible models.
"G" type lenses are not fully compatible with the F4, N90-series, N70, N8008-series and N6006 (or older model) cameras, only programmed auto or shutter-priority auto exposure mode can be used.

Two ED (Extra-low Dispersion) elements and PGM aspherical lenses control chromatic aberrations while enhancing sharpness and contrast.
Exclusive Nano Crystal Coat further reduces ghosting and flare for even greater image clarity.
Internal Focus (IF) provides fast and quiet auto focusing without changing the length of the lens, retaining subject-working distance through the focus range.
Rugged construction and professional-grade dust and moisture resistance.
M/A Focus Mode switch enables quick response to changing situations between Auto and Manual focus operation.

I had rented this lens before and was so blown away with it. After receiving it I found that is was not focusing properly on any of my cameras. Had to fine tune the AF to -20 to even get close. So I had to return it for an exchange. Waiting for the exchange to to arrive. Hopefully will get a good one this time.

Comments about Nikon AF-S Zoom Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8G ED AF Lens:

So far, I have really enjoyed using this glass. Being a prime lens junkie, I contemplated all the other options in this "wide" and "ultra wide" region. After much research and delibration, it seems that this zoom option is currently the best in that region. So far, I am quite happy with the performance. 14mm is so wide that it takes practice to use effectively, and not include your feet! One just needs to be aware that flare can sometimes be an issue - that can often be addressed by slightly recomposing. The lack of filters could also be an issue, but I plan to use the lens as-is for a while before investigating those options. Overall, a great piece of glass!

Comments about Nikon AF-S Zoom Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8G ED AF Lens:

I am an avid amateur photographer, but this lens looked like too much fun to resist. I wanted to play around with ultra-wide and didn't need to compromise. I am really amazed at the shots I have started getting with this lens. It is very sharp, has great colors and is very forgiving. The performance of this lens is amazing. The only thing holding it back is the person behind the camera.

This is a lot of lens. Composition, position, timing, everything just becomes more important with this lens. I bought it so that I could get better at ultra-wide shots and I am already getting great shots that I could not have before. I am sure that this lens in the hands of a pro would be even better.

Comments about Nikon AF-S Zoom Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8G ED AF Lens:

I had the Nikon 16-35mm f/4 lens for a few years and was happy with it, but felt it was soft compared to my 24-70mm and the 70-200mm VRII. So it was not my go-to lens unless I absolutely needed <24mm. After shooting with the 14-24mm for a few weeks, this is my go-to lens for a lot of shots that I would never take before. It is incredibly sharp up close (<12") for nice foreground objects. It is a solid lens, heavier than the 16-35mm, but that has not been a problem. It feels good in-hand on the D800 and the D4. I did get some sun glare, on certain shots towards the sun, but they are small and can be removed in post processing, but I was also able to slightly shift my positioning and avoid the glare on most shots. This lens is built just as solid as the 24-70 and the 70-200mm.

I have only shot with this lens a few times, so bear that in mind...Results so far have been excellent. From f4-f16, tack sharp from corner to corner. Excellent contrast. Great color, balance and range. Build quality is excellent, as well. AF is quick and accurate. It was between this and the 16-35. I rented the latter, and it was great. However, I wanted the extra speed in case I ever do any night or astro photography. For not that much more, I'm happy to be able to shoot the sky.Yes, it's big and heavy, and that (gasp!) massive bubble lens on the front. Deal with it! I rarely use filters so I dont care either way. And if you're interested, there are a few tutorials online on how to use a large sponge and some filter glasss to make your own--for about $.This lens screams pro all the way. I can't wait to actually take it out and test drive it. Overall, and excellent addition to your full frame collection.

Comments about Nikon AF-S Zoom Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8G ED AF Lens:

Optically, this is a great lens. There is nothing else on the market that comes close to what this lens can do. It's a marvel of innovation from Nikon. It fits the needs of what we've been asking for, zoom lenses that equal or surpass prime lenses at reasonable prices. But there is a cost.

This lens is very delicate. On a flight someone moved one of our camera bags in an overhead compartment. The next person to open the compartment let the camera bag fall to the ground. Who was to blame? One thing for certain, not Nikon. Though this was a new lens under warranty this lens suffered "Impact Damage." Something went off track and it couldn't move the elements all the way which resulted in the bottom right corner going extremely soft in all the images. The lens is very tightly built with a lot of intricacy. What this means is repairs are time consuming and expensive. The repair bill for this fall from Nikon was a tad over $600.

Lenses are precision optical instruments. This one is a bit more fragile than most lenses. When you are not using it keep it in a cool dry place in it's case where it has little risk of getting knocked over. It would seem like a great lens to run around Europe with on vacation while shooting interiors. But since it's so fragile I wouldn't feel comfortable with it as a 'walk around' lens. It's not really a lens you keep on a body all day, It's more of a specific task lens where you use it for it's job and put it away when you are done. Others have written that this lens has shown up damaged when purchased new. When you get it, check out carefully. This is not a lens to avoid, but it is one that you have handle with a lot of TLC. If you can do this you should be fine.

Used this lens to do real estate shots of homes. Very sharp and just what I needed to capture small rooms with confind space. Works perfect with my D800.

This is a bulbous beast and I love it. I'm using this lens for everything right now, but it will be most helpful in large groups. I do wish it had some kind of filter to protect that glass.

Comments about Nikon AF-S Zoom Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8G ED AF Lens:

The 14-24 is an outstanding lens in all aspects. It is certainly incredibly sharp, and amazingly free of barrel distortion at 14mm. . . . a most useful lens in architectural photography and, of course, landscapes. The lack of filter accommodation is a small price to pay for all of the other attributes of this lens. You can enhances skies and color easily via Photoshop.

I purchased this lens to compliment the Nikon 70-200 F2.8 and 24-70 F2.8 I already own. I use this lens for both photography and video on a Nikon D800E. What can I say. It met all my expectations!
