Only syncs to 200 for flash, not a major issue, but somewhat limiting. Light weight, very easy to use. Worked the first time right out of the box. Not the strongest construction, however, acceptable for the price. I would recommend this for anyone that is looking for an inexpensive wireless flash to experiment with. If you are going to try to make money using this unit, DON"T, but, if you want to experiment and have fun, then this isn't a bad unit for the price. I bought it for shooting models, not too bad, but there is motion blur due tothe 160 sync isssue, if I have them moving. I will use it for other 'experiments' that I have planned.

Comments about Smith-Victor RTK-4 Radio Trigger Set:

Bought this (master/receiver, two extra receivers) from a local store. Can NOT get it to work reliably. False flashing (simply walking around in the vicinity of the unit can sometimes trigger it), and very unreliable triggering. I had one light fire continuously on one of the channel settings, depending on where I stood near the light. Sometimes as little as 1/10 shots fire the light, and even that varies randomly from each of the three lights. I've tried everything, including each of the four channels and disabling all other wireless transmitters in the area. I suspect that there's another transmitter out of my control that's saturating the receivers. Regardless, that's not acceptable design or performance. In addition, there's no excuse for the difficulty and clumsiness of the battery access in the transmitter. Also, receivers and transmitter EAT batteries, even when not used, and they all should be equipped with an on-off switch. Bottom line: a very poor design at any price. Not recommended under any circumstances. Not to a friend, not even to an enemy.

Comments about Smith-Victor RTK-4 Radio Trigger Set:

the RTK-4 hasn't delivered consistent range firing during on-location shooting.

I have been left to resort to the sync cable which only expands to about 10 feet. As most photographers know, when using a 70-200 mm lens this poses a grave problem. I purchased the above trigger to extend my reach but have been disappointed with its performance.

I would have never figured out how to get the battery into this thing. It says the battery is installed it's not, it comes with a screwdriver and two batteries, but no instructions and hiding the screw behind a label? Who's bright idea was that? Honestly if I had not read the review posted here I would have thrown this thing out the window.

For terrible instructions I give it a two.

Comments about Smith-Victor RTK-4 Radio Trigger Set:

The transmitter's A23 battery does not last long, and initially it's quite difficult to open the transmitter to replace this battery (the top half was glued onto the area around the test button). Once this glued joint is broken, it will be simple to change the battery.

The receivers' AA batteries are also short lived.

I was told that both the transmitter and the receivers are always on (no on/off switch), and this drains the batteries after a few weeks, whether you use the product or not.

Now I remove all the batteries after each use and reinstall right before use. I also bring spare batteries.

Never had a misfire yet, keeping my fingers crossed. I've never stand more than a few feet away though.

I use these to trigger a flash on a light stand for fill light. I just received them and tested it with one of my small flash units and it works. I don't know how they will hold up under pressure but will let you know in the future. The receivers need a small switch to turn them off, I think that's why some of the reviews talks about bad battery life on the receiver. It's an easy fix, for the money they were a good buy as long as they continue to work.

I bought the set with one extra receiver about a year ago, and I was so satisfied that I purchased two extra receivers early this summer. They all work perfectly, and the only problem I have had is that the battery seems to run out faster than stated in the manual. After about two months of extensive use I started to experience most of the problems described in some of the reviews here on B&H. It turned out that the batteries on both the transceiver unit and the receiver unit was poor, and after changing them everything worked perfectly again. Now I always carry around extra batteries for both, and I have change the receiver battery once every two month, but the transceiver unit seems to hold on for about 6 month. Bottom line is that it is cheap, it works and it is easy to use. It is not a pocketwizard, but for the price it really does the job fine.

I took over 700 photos over four days at a large portrait type setup in a 20x30 tent at a dog show with Photogenic lights - it never missed firing. Worked perfectly - I was within 10' of the lights, so can't say how far it would work, but I was very pleased with the results.

                                  No problems at all.

Comments about Smith-Victor RTK-4 Radio Trigger Set:

I bought this Radio Trigger to use with my Nikon D200 and Gemini monolights. I wanted to forego all the "bells and whistles" of the more expensive triggers to save some money. I just wanted a way to fire my strobes consistently, without a pc cord.

This trigger has 4 channels to choose from. I had a job that was on location at a shopping mall. Each of the four channels experienced interference and caused the lights to fire randomly (over and over). So I was unable to use the trigger at all.

Back at my studio, where there is no interference, the trigger failed to work (randomly) more than 25 percent of the time. Very frustrating!

Save your money for a better Trigger. This one is not even usable.

I bought one transmitter/receiver set and 1 extra receiver. One triggers about 75% of the time, the 2nd triggers about 30% of the time. This is when they are setup less than 10 feet from transmitter, no computers running nearby, etc..... Plenty of random triggering as well. Lack of diagnostic LEDs or any kind of display on units makes it difficult to figure out if the transmitter is bad or the individual receivers. The savings of a few hundred dollars is not worth the aggravation - looks like Pocket Wizards are next

We all know how problematic sync cords can be. This product is only marginally better.
I recently used it for the first time. Out of 600 shots, it failed to trigger the flash 36 times. If I would still be using film, I would be really mad because I would have basically wasted a whole roll of film. If you know anything about radios, the problem is that the transmitter is VERY weak and it is VERY line of sight susceptible. That means that if ANYTHING is in between the transmitter and the receiver, (i.e. props or even your own body) the flash will not trigger. I should have saved up more money and bought something better!
