Comments about Photogenic StudioMax III Constant Color 320 Watt/Second Monolight (120VAC):

I purched 3 of these all with AC/DC and radio control. After 2 weeks I had to send 2 back to the manufacturer due to performance issues. I also purchsed a battery which is now collecting dust since it conked out on me after about 6 months. However, if you connect these to a Quantum Turbo battery they work great with a 2 second recycle at 1/2 power. Even better is the Vagabond Mini battery by Paul C Buff. The color and the light is great on these, but with no internal fan you have to be real careful not to overheat the unit. At full power there is a 10 second time interval you have to go through after a few pops. This is definately not the type of flash for shooting action, portraits are OK though. The flash duration on these is a measely 1/125th at full power. This means you have to sync your camera to about 1/60th just to be safe. Photogenic really cut corners on the ON/OFF switch in the back other than that I would have ginven these unit 5 stars. As far as accessories, the company claims that you can use the higher end PL series accessories, but from my experience, it is better to stick with the few accessories that were made for this unit. All in all the Studio Max III's make a good travel kit. They are light and relatively durable. The light they produce is so clean and even that you don't need allot of modifiers to make them work for you. They also work well as background lights and table top lights due to their size and weight. I would highly recommend these lights to somebody that is into event photography especially the radio equiped models. They can also handle sit-and-grin portraits and table top photography very well. I would not recommend these for any fast action photography such as sports, fashion models, or kids.

          Fast, dependable, well made!
This is my third Studio Max light and I LOVE it!
No sync cord required as the sensitivity allows it to sync internally as my other strobes flash!
          Fabulous product!

I have 2 of these. One with and one without the RF. The RF is a must for your main strobe. I cant imagine having a cable.
