The Giottos MH-1303 Pro Series II Ballhead with MH-210C Camera Platform is a "socket & ball" head that has been carefully designed and manufactured to precisely position the camera easily and securely.

In order to cut back on its weight, this head features a hollowed out heavily anodized aluminum ball. The body shell (socket) follows a slimmer and lighter structure design, yet offers increased hardness. By using a simple round camera platform, and a single lock-down control knob, weight and cost are further reduced.

Comments about Giottos MH-1303 Pro Series II Ballhead with MH-210C Camera Platform:

I'm using this to hold a DSLR in portrait mode for a photobooth style system, and it's very well made. There's no slippage at all, and the knob is smooth as silk. You don't need to crank it down to know it's tight and not going to move out of place.

Comments about Giottos MH-1303 Pro Series II Ballhead with MH-210C Camera Platform:

This is the smallest and lightest ball head I have found that actually functions like a real ball head! The small ball heads I have used are either too flimsy or adjustments are too rough to be functional with anything more than a pocket camera.

I use the MH-1303 head on my Slik Sprint Pro II tripod for backpacking. This light weight combination works well for for my M43 system and smaller cameras when I am too far from the car to carry my much heavier Gitzo or Bogen tripods. Long focal lengths or high magnification require extra care but this combination works pretty well. I chose to skip the QR plates to keep things light and simple.

I like the single knob adjustment - it's simple and light and it works well. For its size this is a very smooth ball head. I own a Gitzo head that is nowhere near as smooth! I was surprised at the build quality of this head.

I have also used this head on my monopod a bit. I like the simplicity and the support is adequate for my needs. Again, Giottos quality is better than I had hoped. In fact, I am considering getting a MH-3300 for my larger tripods. This will include an Arca-compatible plate.

I really don't have anything bad to say about this head. If you are looking for a light ball head give it serious consideration.

Attached to a car window brace, this ball head has no problem handling my Canon 7D with 400mm f5.6 lens attached.

I needed a small ballhead to fit on top of a small, light-duty tripod and decided to give this one a try. One control knob does it all and locks securely with little effort. Great for small tripods or monopods. If you need something bigger check out one of Giottos larger ballheads. From the smallest to the largest they are all great, beautifully machined and designed.

One of a few single knob ball heads with drop notch opposite the knob. This arrangement keeps the knob in the same place in both portrait and landscape orientation. Perfect mate for Gitzo GT1541T nesting perfectly between reverse folded legs. I removed the cork patform and attached directly to an iDeesign Q-top quick release. Very pleased with initial quality but only time will tell how it holds up.

Comments about Giottos MH-1303 Pro Series II Ballhead with MH-210C Camera Platform:

The ballhead is good: light, good finishing, good weight to stability ratio. However, the MH 210C platform has a soft cork that creates an unstable contact with the camera. It produces a lot of vibration and it is very difficult to fit the camera in a firm position. In order to get a good adjustment I overtight the platform to the camera and need to remove it with a plumbers tool. In contrast, other heads like manfrotto had a firm cork, your finger did not go deep as in the case of the MH 210 C cork.
