The 62mm Protector Filter from Sony is a wise initial investment. It can help protect your valuable investment from dust, moisture and scratches, which can lead to costly repairs. The multi-coated glass helps minimize flare and ghosting in the image.

Bought together with the 16-80 Zeiss because I read you needed a very thin filter for 16mm focal length shots. Excellent quality and works as advertised.

Comments about Sony 62mm Multi-Coated (MC) Protector Filter:
I get a haze when shooting sceneries in this desert land with a coastal line attributed by all to the dust and humidity. Put on this filter and shot a scene from my house window. Wow!!! the haze is off. Clear picture. So this is not just a protector filter but also cuts the haze. And no vignetting at wide angle. The case from SONY I got with the filter is slim and round profile occupying less space in my camera bag unlike some with large square cases. [...]

Your lens is your investment. I have a sony a55 with a 16-80mm Carl Zeiss lens. The lens is great itself. Why not put a good quality lens filter. The filter works great by not only protecting the lens from UV but also by lessening vignetting and improving image color. The lens filter is lightweight and durable. The T* coating made by Carl Zeiss makes the filter a high quality accessory for your hight quality optics.

I am replacing All my filters attached to my Sony lenses for the Sony *T coated UV filters. I made some testings between the Sony *T coated filter and Hoya Pro Digital filter. I can see the difference. The Sony produces more contrast and sharper images than the Hoya Pro Digital filters. I highly recommend the Sony *T coated filters than any other brand.

Comments about Sony 62mm Multi-Coated (MC) Protector Filter:
I use these filters on my Sony 70-300G zoom as well as a Zeiss 16-80 zoom. Not only do they protect the front element but from a number of tests I've run they have NO negative effect on the image quality whatsoever. In fact I did some tests that revealed having them on actually avoids lens flare instead of inducing it which might be typical of some lessor filters. They are thin so there is no vignetting and the hard coatings promote easy cleaning. Highly recommended if you have nice lenses you like to protect, especially in bad weather or by sea spray

Comments about Sony 62mm Multi-Coated (MC) Protector Filter:
Bought this lens protector for another Sont lens.
Just like the other sizes, this one is fantastic too.
If you never buy any lens filters for any of your own lenses, at least buy this for added protection.
Also the uv and Zeiss coatings and attractive storage case make nice enhancements to your low & high dollar lenses.
Highly recommend this filter.

Comments about Sony 62mm Multi-Coated (MC) Protector Filter:
I bought this filter for my 16-80mm Carl Zeiss lens, because it is thin enough to shoot ultra-wide without ANY vignetting and it has the same coatings as my lens (can't hurt). I have the 62mm B+W uv filter and it was too long to shoot at 16mm. So without spending $30 more on a ultra thin I would recommend this filter with any brand of lens. The build is top notch, and it comes with a nice thin case --this is nice because it fits well in my "everyday" camera bag. 5 Stars for sure!

Comments about Sony 62mm Multi-Coated (MC) Protector Filter:
Despite the varying schools of thought, I decided to risk a loss in image quality for the benefit of keeping my lens scratch and residue-free. I DID go for the Sony filter that has the same Zeiss coatings as my lens in order to minimize any possible adverse effects. It is a slimmer design than most filters and I have noticed no increase in vignetting or laoss in image quality. I am less paranoid about my Carl Zeis 16-80mm lens for Sony with this filter protecting it.
