I have been looking for a replacement for my Epson Expression 1640XL scanner for years. I tried the Epson Expression 10000XL and 11000XL scanners and they are a problem because they have a recessed glass and a peg sticking up on the top. If you are scanning oversized images you need a flat unobstructed surface. The Plustek Optipro A320 has a flat, unobstructed surface. It scans flawlessly and fast. The color is consistent across the image so stitching is easy. The Twain driver works without a hitch and for those of you who are scanning directly into Photoshop, it doesn't get any easier.
Before I discovered this scanner, I also ruled out the Contex HD iFlex and the Widetek 25-600. Both of these scanners proved unsuitable for different reasons. The Contex simply didn't work and the Widetek had a recessed glass that prevented acceptable stitching of oversized images.
The Plustek Optipro A320 will cost you less than $500. Epson's 11000XL runs $2,000 or more and both the Contex and Widetek scanners run around $10,000 each.
The A320's scanning quality is excellent. The A320 is also light weight and easy to move around. Finally, it is easy to reach someone at Plustek and they go out of their way to be helpful.
I do fine are reproduction for a living. I have done it for years and I was afraid that I would have to move to a digital camera when my Epson 1640XL finally died. For a host of reasons I did not want to move to a digital camera. Now I don't have to.
Finding this scanner was a Godsend. I was hesitant to try it because the price was so low compared to all the others, but desperation caused me to try it as a last resort. I will never make that mistake again. The proof is in the image quality, not the scanner price.
I use Photoshop CS6 running on a Windows 7 64bit platform. I need to produce images that are perfectly focused and color accurate. My customers are artists and they expect the prints I make to look exactly like their originals. I print on an Epson 7900 and I have a NEC PA241W monitor to view my work. To insure color accuracy, I have to profile and calibrate everything I use. I have an x-rite i1 Pro spectrophotometer and I use x-rite's i1 Profiler to profile my monitor, scanner and printer. I use a Hutch target for profiling my scanner.
The only thing I do with this scanner is scan original art work. The Plustek Optipro A320 is now my scanner of choice. If you do what I do, this is the scanner for you.

This is a great scanner for the price, especially considering it's size. The only problem I found is that it tends to de-saturate colors, and if you try to scan something with texture (like leaves, or something like that) it tends to over expose and you loose all the texture, unless you put some sort of spacer to hold it about 3/8" off the glass. Once you do that, it picks up the texture very well.

I love this scanner. Set up was easy and fast. The scanning software is easy to navigate and gives you tons of options. My only disappointment was the description stated it was MAC compatible (somewhat). AS I didn't quite understand that description I called B&H customer service and I was assured it was MAC compatible. Turns out it's not! If you have a MAC Don't order this without contacting Plustek first to double check the compatible operating systems. Luckily I have a PC too, so I am super happy regardless.

This is a good scanner and fast. It installed easily by following the included instructions but that's where the easy part ended. Although there was lots of software included there were no instructions on what did what or how to do anything such as scan a tabloid format document and create a pdf file which was my objective. It was all trial and error with lots of error.

Comments about Plustek OpticPro A320 Tabloid Flatbed Scanner:

I am digitizing the original 11 x 17 board masters of my grphic novel pages. The artwork is finely detailed. One board in particular is probably over 80 years old; i found it stuff in a home over a hundred years old wherein once I resided. The OpticPro A320 even picked up pleasing details in the texture. Again, I was expecting to have to pay much more for such quality.

I could not get this to work with my mac at all. It says it's compatible "with limitations". I was able to download a driver online (the disk that came with it only worked with windows) but I still couldn't get it to scan in color, only in black and white.

Comments about Plustek OpticPro A320 Tabloid Flatbed Scanner:

Being a Graphite Artist that uses larger format paper to illustrate pieces, this scanner is perfect for me. I truly appreciate the fact that all weights of shadow and highlights are captured in the scans. I would have appreciated recieving a manual on how to use the different softwares that came with the scanner though. I would have saved a lot of time at initial setup time, if I could have read about the differences each software provides. But now that I have taken the time to bumble my way through the different formats, it has proven to be a good decision for enhancing my promotion of my business. Thank you again.

I was looking for a scanner that could scan tabloid size newspaper. This was the one I could afford and it does a satisfactory optical job. It is also the only Plustek scanner that offers a Mac OS driver. The interface is clunky and there is no documentation if you are a Mac user. It takes 26 seconds to scan a 10x14 page. My current project calls for scanning more than 1200 newspaper pages so faster wouldn't hurt but it's acceptable. The lid opens like a book and is on vertical pins, a nice feature for thick documents/books. I'm glad I found this for the money.

This PLUSTEK OpticPro A320 scanner is a great value. The speed that it scans is a pleasant surprise; and the fact that it has such a large scanning area is terrific!

Granted, much of what a person scans are smaller documents or photos, where a standard scanner does the job. But when you get a larger photo or item, like an 11x14 portrait, or a LIFE magazine where you want the whole page copied, this will do the job. The quality is superb; and I was hesitant at first, as I hadn't even heard of this brand before. But I am glad I bought the product; and for under $500 it is a great value.

Comments about Plustek OpticPro A320 Tabloid Flatbed Scanner:

We do a lot of black& white scans of landscape drawings--have been sending larger ones out, so this A3 size scanner is saving us a lot of time/money since we can do it in-house. Images much sharper than our tired old Epson, which has given up the ghost after years of abuse...push buttons on top great for our less technical staff too.

For scanning larger images quite useful, Price good and allows smaller offices to have this technology.
