Comments about Vixen Optics 8x42 ZWCF Foresta Binocular:

I first tried the Vixen 8x32 Foresta porros, and found that they were very nice compact bins, but heavy, and had to be focused more often than the Vixen Foresta 8x42's that I replaced them with.

These are really easy to use-not a lot of focusing for a given distance (good depth of field), excellent sharpness, and contrast, under most all lighting conditions. And the extra few ounces between these and the 8x32'is really not noticeable at all to me. I even liked holding the 8x42's more, since they seemed more ergonomic (longer barrels), and seemed to give a better performance overall-better sweet spot percentage, and better depth in the field of view-which meant in practical terms-less focusing needed and just a great view to be had for the looking.

The 8x42's also are more eyeglass friendly, or more correctly, have better eye relief, mostly due to the closer distance from the edge of the eyecup to the lens, in the down position. The 8x32's are more recessed, so lessening the usable eye relief.

B&H also offers these at the best price available, from what I have been able to tell, and they are very reliable to buy from, and have excellent customer service available when needed.

So, win-win, for all-just a great all around binocular-great sharp, wide view, with or without eyeglasses or sunglasses. The only negative I can find with these is the larger than normal eye cups. But one can adjust their technique of viewing for these (placing them on the forehead instead of in the eye sockets), and all is good from there on.

So, I say, Great Job, Vixen!, and thank you B&H for the good deal too! Really nice Porro Prism bins for not a lot of money. They seem very well made, and have a great lifetime transferrable warranty besides. A No-Brainer Deal-give them a try if these seem to be what you are looking for in a modern Porro Prism binocular. I am very well pleased with them-they do nothing badly, and seemingly everything well. They also have a really great 3D view compared to roof prism bins-a view I much prefer over roofs, anyday. Highly recommended, but try them for yourself to be sure!

    Great binoculars

Comments about Vixen Optics 8x42 ZWCF Foresta Binocular:

Nice binoculars, but didnt' compare with more expensive Swift Audubons opticaly. The eyecups on the Foresta were much much better. The Foresta was similiar to the Nikon Action (non-waterproof), except the Foresta is waterproof and a little lighter. The optics were similiar though.

Comments about Vixen Optics 8x42 ZWCF Foresta Binocular:

Used for general observation, nature, birds and the stars, these binoculars deliver crisp, contrasty images, in a well designed, balanced and nicely built package. Images are sharp, sharp, sharp... Much better than Pentax and Nikon consumer binoculars, "snapping" into and out of focus as they should. Coatings are excellent, and lens correction is semi-apo in quality, with no noticeable color fringing (CAs), even on subjects that should show it. When viewing the moon, a slight yellow fringe can be seen on the limb, only if you look hard to see it. The construction and ergonomics are great, with more than ample eye relief, and twist up eyecups are some of the best I have seen. I have owned and used a number of different binoculars over the years, including Leicas. These little jewels rival that quality at a fraction of the price.
