The 1.4x Teleconverter for Tamron Lens on Canon AF Camera from Tamron will multiply the focal length of the existing Tamron lens by 1.4x, and will cut back the amount of light by one f/stop. For example, using a 1.4x teleconverter with a 300mm lens will effectively increase the focal length to 420mm. A lens set to f/2.8 will now be f/4.

Teleconverters are not recommended for lenses wider than 50mm, e.g. 28-105mm. However, full AF operation is only possible with lenses with open aperture of f/2.8 or brighter. Please be aware that AF will work properly only if there is enough light and contrast on the subject to activate the camera's AF sensors. Manual focusing is recommended when using lenses with smaller open f-stop value than those given above.

B&H is the place to get photo gear from. New York efficiency, price efficiency, shipping ef..etc..etc.The Tamron 1.4X TC was quickly appreciated doing Macro first. I would have given it 5 stars, but there has not been enough use at the long end yet. So one star in reserve. That's the demanding part so must get the 'feel' to compare without 1.4X and be accurate.I have the Tamron 70 - 300mm, and now realize that selected Tamron lenses are Very very good. cheers, TG

It is small and easy to use, but be careful with it. It can be really soft, especially with sports I have found. I don't have the money to afford the Canon by a long shot, so I figured this was the next best thing with all the reviews it had that made it sound fantastic. Don't get me wrong, it works well, but save your money. For a photojournalist that needs extra focal length quick and at a decent price, this works, but for sports I've had mixed results. Go with a bit of caution, but I'm not giving up on it yet. IS and non IS seems to have a noticeable difference so try them both out and see what you think. Fun to put my 50mm 1.8 on it for macro shots though, talk about saving some serious cash! One of the better highlights. Over all does the job, so if you need something practical for your wallet and your job, this is a decent choice.

I use a Tamron 70-300 vc lens for wildlife photography and this tc increased my focal length to 420mm. Vibration control and auto-focus work flawless. To buy a 400mm lens with vc I would have spent a lot more money. If you are considering this teleconverter for your lens be aware that it is designed specifically for Tamron lens. I have taken several pictures of birds with this combination on a Canon T3i and the quality, in my opinion, is outstanding. Great product!

I had this for many years and got great shots with it. It is now full time on my 70-210 3.5-4.5 since it has decent IQ. It focuses perfectly on my T4i. Keep note however that focussing is bad with a 50 1.8 on the T4i while it was good with my film camera.

Comments about 1.4x Teleconverter for Tamron Lens on Canon AF Camera:

I bought this modest little tc to use it with my Sigma 500mm f4.5, to retain AF on the 1DmkIV. The main alterntive TCs, Sigma 1.4x and Canon 1.4x, will not allow AF operation with this lens, even on a 1DmkIV body (which normally AFs at f8). So far, I'm very pleased with it. Of course, the IQ takes a little hit, but nothing to scream and shout about, and it is very valuable to me, to have AF, when hand-holding. ..... Note that this tc will not work well with any lens, even if it physically fits. I tried it on my 85L also, just to satisfy my own curiosity, but the results were bad (blurry shots - and not from too long shutter speeds, I assure you).

Tried with Canon 50/f1.4, Canon 85/f1.8, Tamron 18-270. Zoom had trouble with the AF in normal light, all lenses had trouble in low light. Would rather have a 2X especially since the aperture decreased by 2 stops, not 1 as expected. Probably keep it for the occasional macro use.

Comments about 1.4x Teleconverter for Tamron Lens on Canon AF Camera:

I love photographing wildlife, especially birds. The 1.4x added to my 75-300mm zoom, lets me get in that much closer, but adds almost no extra weight. When out in the field I am usually hand-holding my camera rather than using a tripod. When shooting really close up, the extender does show more softness and shake, so I have to take extra care to hold steady or brace myself. Still, a small price to pay to get the extra close-up shots.

So far this item has proven to be a good value. Although a tripod is now more necessary, the photos have turned out well.

I am using the Tamron 1.4x teleconverter with a Tamron 28-300mm VC lens on a Canon 20D camera. I have found it to be a good investment in giving me a little extra focal length at the 300mm end. As stated in the instruction, I would not recommend using it below 50mm. It causes a increase in chromatic aberration.

Just got my converter in the mail. I own the standard 18-55 USM IS and the 55-250 Canon USM IS lenses to go with my Canon Rebel XSi. The lenses will not fit the converter. I'm gussing I need an extention tube to make it work.

I have been using this product on a Sigma 50-500mm lens as well as a Canon 24-105 is L lens with good results on both!

It is sturdy and compact and easy to connect to both lens and camera, consequently I have it with me at all times.

I wish that it would connect to smaller some of the lenses that I use for Macro like a 65 mm

Used with an EF 70-200mm 4L and the 300m 4L IS on a 40d and was pleasantly surprised. Was not expecting much from this converter. Shot some baseball and softball pictures over a sunny weekend and was able to get some good shots of the infielders and outfielders. No problems with autofocus. However, there was slight loss of sharpness, but nothing that cannot be photoshoped.
