I purchased the Fastpack 100 for carrying a Nikon D-40 SLR, lenses, and accessories while hiking and taking photos at my children's sporting events. We just got back from a week of hiking in the Rocky Mtn National Park, Colorado. I was able to pack my camera with either the 18mm to 55mm or the 55mm to 200mm attached and the other lens packed with room to spare in the lower camera compartment. I had room for a small pair of binoculars, lunch, snacks, waterproof jacket, trail maps, and a few small items in the upper compartment. The side mesh pocket was great for carrying a water bottle. I used the small built-in strap pouch to hold my cell phone or some times my mp3 player. The accessory band on the other shoulder strap perfectly held my daughters Lowepro camera case when she was along. The bag was very comfortable even on a 15 mile hike along the Alluvial Fan to Lawn Lake. However what I liked most about the bag was the ability to swing the bag around on my shoulder and unzip the lower compartment for quick access to my camera without having to stop hiking and sit the bag on the ground as is necessary with other bags. The size, weight, comfort and ease of use exceeded my expectations. I would like to see Lowepro add the waterproof cover to this line in the future for those occasions when you are away from shelter and caught in the rain.

The backpack is useful for trips, but not useful if I need to get something out quickly. I like the top pocket where you can put wallet, personal stuff. However, the bottom part can only hold 2 small lenses and a camera. It was a struggle to even put 2 lenses and a camera into the backpack.

Comments about Lowepro Fastpack 100 Backpack (Arctic Blue/Black):
I was looking for a light, sturdy backpack to carry my gear during travel. This backpack is perfect for my needs. It fits my camera with lens and could probably accomodate another smaller lens. It is a snug fit. The top of the backpack has an extra zipper compartment to put my wallet and keys. If you plan on carrying an extra larger lens or more than 2 lenses, you'll need to get a larger size. This is perfect for what I had intended.

Exactly what I was looking for. Stores camera with lens, plus a Tele-zoom, macro lens, and flash unit. Room in top compartment for photo vest, or lightweight jacket.
When in use, room for snackes and extra drinks while compact and easy to carry.
My normal use: short day-hikes to all day hikes; ~2 to 8 miles RT.

A little smaller than I wanted. I should have bought the next size up. Enough room for camera and lens and 1 other lens. Not much room for anything else.

It's very useful backpack for slr camera users. There is enough space for extra lenses and your personal stuff. It can be open very easily and quickly to put out the camera. It's more comfortable than the shoulder bag which I used to.

Bought to take with me on trip to Yellowstone. Needed to fit my IPAD but was too small. Returned and ordered the 250.

Perfect for the non-photographer. Great for my camera, accessories. Still room for one more lense....that is what I wanted. If you have a lot of stuff...get the 200. However, the 100 is perfect for us

Good for one camera with attached lens and one additional lens. This has good cushion for camera compartment. You may carry other small things that you may need for the day out. Easy to take the camera out or in. You may need to take the backpack off your shoulder to reach the extra lens.

Comments about Lowepro Fastpack 100 Backpack (Arctic Blue/Black):
Big enough to hold my DSLR with zoom lens attached and separate flash, in addition to a sweater and other small items fitting in the top, yet small enough to walk around with all day comfortably.
Great for traveling and sightseeing.
Also convenient to have the side opening for the camera as well.

Comments about Lowepro Fastpack 100 Backpack (Arctic Blue/Black):
This backpack was terrific for toting a smaller DSLR and an extra small lens. The side zipper pocket reflects how one uses a camera bag in real life.
But: the bag was just a bit too small for me - it wasn't possible to load any extra gear below, and the top storage compartment was very, very small, and not useful for stowing any other items. As a result, it really wasn't a full-use day back - it was really a small camera case with backpack straps.
I returned this backpack, so that I could buy a larger backpack.

I like this pack because you can swing it around to get at your camera. on of the things i don't like about it is that it does not have a good place for a tripod.

Comments about Lowepro Fastpack 100 Backpack (Arctic Blue/Black):
I coach rowing and am often at regattas for a full day. The backpack is easy to use, fits comfortably on my back (particularly when cycling) and holds my Sony A100 and 2 lenses. The compartments in the top easily hold extra memory cards and my lens cleaning kit plus pens and other items. The front zip on top is a handy compartment for easy access to keys and wallet.
As others have pointed out, the side pockets don't fit normal water bottles (which also don't fit in the main top pocket), which is a bit of a hassle and the main top pocket doesn't fit my small notebook or most race programs - it's just a tiny bit too small.
It's great for if I'm just going to shoot or am on a day out and want my camera just in case, but not ideal when I have other things to carry as well. I treat it more like a purse that holds a camera than a proper bag. It's done very well, but I'll be upgrading shortly.

Comments about Lowepro Fastpack 100 Backpack (Arctic Blue/Black):
This is a great pack for those times when you want to travel lightly, such as on day hikes. It is the perfect size for my Canon Rebel & 2 lenses (Tamron 17-50 2.8 & Canon 55-250 IS), along with a decent amount of accessories. I love being able to slide it off one shoulder and have access to all of my gear. The top unpadded section works very well for carrying a lunch, trail snacks or whatever else you like to bring along on your day hikes. My only issue with this pack is the mesh side pocket - it is too small for all but the smallest drink bottles. You will have to clip your bottle elsewhere.
