The 2x teleconverter (also known as a tele-extender) will multiply the focal length of the existing lens by 2x, and will cut back the amount of light by 2 f/stops. For example, using a 2x teleconverter with a 300 mm lens will effectively increase the focal length to 600 mm. A lens set to f/2.8 will now be f/5.6.

Teleconverters are not recommended for lenses wider than 50mm, e.g. 28-105mm. However, full AF operation is only possible with lenses with open aperture of f/2.8 or brighter. Please be aware that AF will work properly only if there is enough light and contrast on the subject to activate the camera's AF sensors. Manual focusing is recommended when using lenses with smaller open f-stop value than those given above.

Comments about Tamron 2x AF Teleconverter for Canon EOS:

Well, the converter does the work very well. Reduces little brightness ofcourse, but still can increase by editing in softwares. Good for those against costlier lenses in the market. Autofocus actually don't work when connected with Tamron 70-300mm lens, have to focus manually.

It's says right in the title that it is for the Canon EOS. I managed to get it on the camera, but I couldn't get the lenses attached. Very frustrating!! Plus I had to pay shipping on this product twice. Not a happy customer.

I use this on my Tamron 70-200 lens and it does a great job for outdoor action photography. Im saving up for the Canon 300 2.8 IS lens but needed some distance now. It's not the 300 but my images came out just fine. Monopod is a must, but I got the images I needed and the client was pleased.
