The 2x teleconverter (also known as a tele-extender) will multiply the focal length of the existing lens by 2x, and will cut back the amount of light by 2 f/stops. For example, using a 2x teleconverter with a 300 mm lens will effectively increase the focal length to 600 mm. A lens set to f/2.8 will now be f/5.6.

Teleconverters are not recommended for lenses wider than 50mm, e.g. 28-105mm and full AF operation is only possible with lenses with open aperture of f/2.8 or brighter. Even on lenses at f/2.8, autofocus cannot be guaranteed; manual focusing is recommended when using this teleconverter.

I bought this mostly to use with my 70-300mm f/4-5.6 G lens (which I think is one of the great bargains of the Nikkor lenses) and with my old 500mm Reflex lens "retrieved" from the 1970s. I have been very pleased with the results, particularly in cinema use. Neither of these are IS lenses, of course, so a very sturdy tripod is a must; and the two-stop loss is not so much of an issue with the low shutter speeds of video shooting (where half the time we are trying to cut exposure with ND filters, anyway). Quite nice to now have a 600mm and a 1000mm lens at hand for a reasonable investment.

I like having the extra reach of this 2x converter. My D5200 when used in auto of any kind will not focus. Keeps looking for focus , but will not lock on at all. I knew this would happen before I got it but got it anyway. used with my Tamron 70-200 the sharpness is good and sharp. I was looking for a 2x that I didn't have to pay $. dollars for and I have found it with this 2x converter.

Comments about Tamron 2x AF Teleconverter for Nikon:

Since Nikons extenders won't work with my lenses I tried this one. It's well built, electronically connected and is very sharp. Auto focus doesn't work at full zoom, 300mm, but I didn't expect that given the write up on B&H's always excellent website. Initial testing shows it's way sharper than my Vivitar mirror lens. Pictures at 300 mm, Nikon 70-300 fully extended and at150 mm+2x extender are visually identical.

I use this wirh nikon D3200 and tamron 70-300mm. In good light conditions it works very good, also the autofocus. In the darker situasions, you need to focus manually, and of course it looses two f stops. But a helpful converter to my use.

This Tele converter has given me the ability to get super close up pictures without spending $1200 on a lens. I am able to use it with the lenses that I have already. I enjoy taking pictures of the roses in my garden. Now I'll be able to really capture the detail up close.

I use it with Tamron 70-300mm, and it works well. Although, as I expected, sharpness of the picture was little worse. Probably wouldn't see the difference with one of the Nikon telephotos. Overall This is good accessory, If you matter only for focal distance.

Quality product that allows extended function of existing lenses at an affordable price point. I don't intend to use this as an everyday answer to my needs, but as an occasional use is needed I'm willing to swap f/stops for distance. It works exactly as they claim it does.

I had purchased a cheaper Teleconverter and was not happy with it at all, never could get a good photo out of it. I purchased this Tamron Teleconverter and it has been great. My lenses I use it on are not fast enough, so I have to do manual focusing, but once I got use to it, have gotten some great shots. I would recommend it to a friend for sure.
