The Tiffen 77mm Graduated 0.6 ND Digital HT Filter is a graduated neutral density filter that helps to specifically darken skies and other bright areas of the image. The filter is densest at the edge and tapers to clear by the middle, with a feathered line between the density and clear areas. Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image and the 0.6 density provides a 2 stop reduction in light from entering the lens. This filter also features a rotating filter ring for flexibility when placing the density over specific areas of the scene.
The Digital HT coating is a high transmission multi-coating that surpasses military specifications for hardness and durability. This optical purity combined with high scratch-resistance results in an easy-to-clean filter with superb imaging quality. They also feature low-profile titanium filter rings for increased strength and vignetting reduction.

I didn't want anything less than a .6 and I'm glad I went with this one. With this filter I can shoot into the sun at 3PM for environmental portraits and still have enough shadow detail that a slight relight effect in post makes for a great shot, and I still get a deep blue sky. The effect is pronounced enough you can easily see when you have it oriented right. I do wish it came with a hard plastic case instead of the slip pouch.

Comments about Tiffen 77mm Graduated 0.6 ND Digital HT Filter:
I find a circular ND filter useful for many situations, this is a great product for to fill that need. Tiffen filters were always lower quality in my mind; however, this on is top notch. Glass! beats B+W and Hoya in build and quality.

Comments about Tiffen 77mm Graduated 0.6 ND Digital HT Filter:
For the right high contrast landscape image, i.e. sunset/sunrise, this screw-on circular ND Grad filter is excellent. It provides detail in a very bright sky, and smoothly transitions between the sky and properly exposed foreground. The filter is well constructed with high quality glass and coatings. I have used 4 x 4 resin filters with Cokin and Lee holders and find this circular filter much easier to use. You may need to crop your image very slightly to get the horizon line exact, but it is so much easier than fussing with filter holders and resin filters.

I purchased this filter because I have enjoyed taking pictures of sunrises, but have had trouble with exposure and blown out foreground. Using this filter will be my practice for getting better exposure. I am impressed with the quality of this lens.

Comments about Tiffen 77mm Graduated 0.6 ND Digital HT Filter:
Graduated filters either work well or they don't and I use this particular filter when I have pale blue skies or need to darken up the background or for shooting a graduated background. Photoshop aside, there are times when it's best to make the effect on site and this does a great job.
It would be nice if Tiffen would make a small handle to help turn the filter. I have tendency to fingerprint the surface when turning it.

Would prefer a 3-stop version, but didn't notice any color change, and the gradation of the filter works fine for me. Using this with a 77-to-72mm step-down adapter.

Comments about Tiffen 77mm Graduated 0.6 ND Digital HT Filter:
Nice quality filter. The 0.6 seems just about right, but I'd like to compare it to a 0.9 to see if that would be too much. Waiting for the snow to melt here, as it's a bit pointless to use when both the sky and the ground are equally bright. The transition seems just a bit too soft - would like a bit more hardness to it, or would like to see the shaded area have more density closer to the transition, rather than fade in over that half of the glass. The coating is nice, really cuts glare, but is very easy to smudge. It's a bit of a pain to clean especially with those Zeiss pre-moistened lens cloths - seems they just make endless streaks.

Comments about Tiffen 77mm Graduated 0.6 ND Digital HT Filter:
I've got to admit, I was a little skeptical about spending that much money on a filter that I had no experience with and had heard mixed reviews about (graduated ND filters in general). Now, however, I can't help but remember how I struggled without one. The biggest negative that I had heard about some of the less expensive ones was that you couldn't really rotate the filter to a point where you needed the ND to be; this filter's glass does rotate.

Originally, I heard that Tiffen filters were "junk." Not true! This is probably one of the best ND grad filters available. All glass unlike the B&W or Hoya. And MADE IN AMERICA!

This is a high quality piece of glass that does exactly what it's supposed to without affecting the overall image quality. I'm using the Tiffen HT grads on all of the lenses I use for landscape shots where dynamic range is a problem such as with the sky or reflections on water.

Works well with no noticeable degradation in image quality. I kind of wish it was 3 stops because 2 is not always enough especially on bright days.

I bought this with step up lenses for use with my Nikon D90. I've already found a number of excuses to put it on both my wide-angle (why I needed the 77 mm one at all) and my other lenses. The glass quality is terrific - images remain sharp and I have not experienced any color shift. I recommend this to anyone.

Just when one thinks they have every gadget they need, I noticed too many washed out skies or underexposed shadows with loss of details. This easy to use, quality filter provides another useful tool to get still and video images right in the camera.

It works best (for me) on my sunrise over the lake pics. Adds the balance one would want and keeps the glare off the water. And what a SOLID filter. No corners cut on quality. No complaints as of yet.
