I was hesitant to buy this bag after reading the 'small' review below, but I checked all the dimensions and ordered it anyway. I'm glad I did. It's the perfect size for a large digital SLR, a couple of lenses, and a flash.

The top, bottom, sides, and dividers are all well padded and semi-flexible. The outside pockets aren't padded. The dividers are adjustable with velcro. The case is well made, no loose threads, and I was surprised to see a 'made in USA' tag.

Storage: The storage space under the camera, unlike all of the other spaces, isn't easy to access, because the camera support is well anchored with velcro. I look at that spot as a 'bonus' area, to carry something I otherwise couldn't, not a place to put something I'll need in a hurry.

With a medium to large diameter lens, you won't be able to put another lens beside the lens mounted on the camera. I am able to put one medium sized flash beside the lens, though.

Mine is setup with a Fuji S3 with 50-135/2.8, 12-24/4, 50/1.4, and Sunpak 42DX flash. All are easy to access. In addition, I can fit a 100-300/4 under the camera.

The information states the Tamrac 706 Deluxe Convertible will hold 3 to 5 lenses, camera, and accessories is a gross overstatement.
I was barely able to put in a 24-70 lens, the flash, and the 40D with the 17-55 lens attached....both lenses had hoods reversed.
I bought the Tamrac 706, for when I was hiking, and doing event photography.
Its a well made bag, and I love the option of wearing it on your hip or off your shoulder.

However because things are a little crowded it can be a hassle to get your gear in and out of the bag.

Would I recommend the Tamrac 706 Deluxe ....Yes, but do be aware that the bag is a lot smaller then advertised.

Comments about Tamrac 706 Deluxe Convertible Bag (Black):

I had been using a back back and it was very difficult to get at the camera, swap lenses, etc. on the fly. I got the Tamrac bag and really love it. It's not a big bag but it does hold my camera, even with the 300 mm lens attached plus my alternative lens plus, plus!

Comments about Tamrac 706 Deluxe Convertible Bag (Black):

I have always liked Tamarc products and thought that I would take a chance that it would work with Mirrorless equipment. It works fantastic and I am looking forward to adding a 100-300mm lens to the bag. I have taken a hike with the bag and it gets the weight off my shoulders, which was one of my requirements. Well-built and at the top of the price range I was looking in but well worth it. Four stars cause nothing is perfect.

I'd got one purchased some 20 years ago. After so many years, I needed a new one to replace it. And couldn't be else than a new one 706!I noted this was built in the States, meanwhile my previous one was from Canada.Let's hope the quality will be the same, since I note a little difference in the cordura finishing.

Comments about Tamrac 706 Deluxe Convertible Bag (Black):

I have hundreds of dollars of photo bags in my closet as a results of trying to get the right fit for my photo equipment. I was attracted to the Tamrac 706 because it holds the camera the way I like, horizontally, and not vertically the way most bags do. I don't know why I like it this way; I just do and so few bags are made this way. I also need a hip belt as my shoulders can't take much weight anymore.
The bag is well built, the padded shoulder strap is nice, and the hip belt is OK. I actually use a Tamrac Modular Accessory Belt with this bag; it slips in real easy and adds extra hip padding. BTW, the sizing on the Tamrac belts are short (what is it with these guys and making things too small?).
My real issue is that the bag seems small, like it was made for 35mm film cameras and the thinner prime lenses more common in the past. Well, my D7000 fits perfectly but my fat zooms aren't as easy a fit. My two zooms are the Nikkor 16-85 VR DX and the 70-300 VR FX. When I reverse the lens hoods they have to squeeze in to place. I also like to carry a couple of prime lenses with me as well, which fit just fine, and my Speedlight 600 which is also a tight fit. It all fits and it all works, so I don't want to be too negative here, after all I have given the bag a 4-star rating. I did raise the bag inserts as high as they would go and this gives more space down at the bottom of the bag to hold the reversed lens hoods.
The things I really do love about the bag is:
              1. The way it holds the camera
              2. The pockets are roomy
              3. It's a handsome bag; it looks great
              4. The overall dimensions are about right (if only they would have given another inch in the depth (the distance from hip outwards)
              5. It's made in the USA

Overall a good, sturdy, ease access bag. Just carefully consider the sizes of your lenses and flash.

I don,t like carrying a camera(gadget)bag on my shoulder, when I have the camera strap around my neck. I strap this bag around my waist, over my rear. When I need an accessory(lens, filter, etc.) I slide the bag around to my front, and take what I need. I also shoot with the bag on the front. For me this is much more comfortable than a pack.

Comments about Tamrac 706 Deluxe Convertible Bag (Black):

I bought this bag in 1984. Since that time I've owned a large variety or equipmet: compact DSLRs, Pro bodies, large zooms, fast primes, you name it. I'm also a bag nut. Over the years I've bought and sold dozens of bags made by many companies. This little Tamrac convertible one of the most comfortable and useful bags I've ever owned. It's a great hiking bag. It has protected my equipment during downpours and blizzards and appears to be completely indestructable. Well done Tamrac!

Have had this version for close to 2 decades. Two end pockets weak in both protection(add dense foam) and closure. I use hip harness pocket for camera rain cover storage. Still looks great, no zipper failures, always protected lenses and cameras. Mono pod mounts perfectly on lower straps. Also has 4 loops towards the upper corners, that can be used as small bungee cord catches. Good, rugged design last.

Front pouch zipper blew out last year but got it fixed. I now have to configure it for my new K-7. Don't carry glass filters in the outside pockets without extra protection. They aren't padded. All in all, great value.

Comments about Tamrac 706 Deluxe Convertible Bag (Black):

Comments about Tamrac 706 Deluxe Convertible Bag (Black):

This is the most useful pack made for day hiking. You can also wear it with a small day pack for your extra things. Whether you can fit as many lenses in it as mentioned, of course depends on the sizes of the lenses and the camera. I have used this pack for Pentax 67, Rebel XSI and am now getting a second pack for the 5D and will get an additional small case for the rebel while using the 5D. It fits under the seats in an airplane along with a day pack, ready to go on a hike. It is comfortable and LONG LASTING, the dividers are adjustable and you can of course add extra padding.

Comments about Tamrac 706 Deluxe Convertible Bag (Black):
