Sigma 10mm f/2.8 EX DC HSM Fisheye Lens for Canon Digital Camera USA

You Pay: $649.00
Product Highlights
  • Rectangular-Image Fisheye Lens

Specifically designed for digital SLR cameras equipped with APS-C size image sensors, the Sigma 10mm f/2.8 EX DC HSM Fisheye Lens is a lens that captures a rectangular 167° view in all directions (when mounted on Canon SLR camera). The diagonal field of view of this fisheye lens produces striking images with exaggerated perspective and distortion.

The minimum focusing distance of 5.3" (13.5 cm) and maximum magnification 1:3.3 allows subjects to be as close as 0.7" (1.8 cm) from the lens' front element. This close focusing capability allows close-up photography and also it is possible to make use of large depth of field that covers wide range of subjects. Even the most familiar and mundane of subjects can be portrayed with startlingly fresh new expressions through exaggerated perspectives and unusual distortion effects. Well suited for academic and technical measurements such as solid angle measurements, cloud cover measurements & virtual reality.

DC lenses are exclusively designed for digital SLR cameras. The image circle (rear of lens) is made to match the smaller dimensions used for the image sensor on digital cameras. As a result, these lenses are also more compact and lightweight, and are better matched to digital SLR cameras.

Note! Not suitable for 35mm film SLR cameras, or for 35mm size "full-frame" digital cameras, e.g. Canon 1Ds or Kodak Pro SLR/c.

Fast, ultra-wideangle rectangular-image lens.
EX lens series denotes excellence of engineering and new technology.
The HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) system ensures quiet and high-speed auto focusing with full time manual focus override.
The built-in lens hood blocks out extraneous light, and the Super Multi-Layer Coating minimizes flare and ghosting, creating superior image quality.
A gelatin filter holder at the rear of the lens allows for the use of gelatin filters.

I bought this lens to take some fun/different hockey photos. I absolutely love it. I get great shots with this lens.

I was originally going to purchase a cheaper fisheye, but decided to go with this for it's autofocus capability.

This is a perfect, affordable option for my purposes. It's solid as a tank, sharp, and gives great color and detail on my 40D and 7D. I absolutely made the right choice.

One negative, is that if you intend to go full frame, it won't be compatible. But I intend to use my crops along side the FF I ordered because of their extra reach, so that's not an issue for me.

Also, you can't use a protective filter, but that is expected for a fisheye.

I bought this lens hoping I would not get a bad copy. After un-packaging, I noticed that the rubber focus ring was not completely attached, not difficult to fix, (basically pressed it back in to the groove) but a bad sign. I attaching to my Canon T1i.. set it up on a tripod and auto focused on the nearest thing (the lens cap sitting 2 ft away on the table). The AF point was right on the SIGMA label, but when I went to preview and zoom in, it was not sharp at all. Then I repeated it over again with the same results. I finally tried manual focus (which is pretty difficult through the view finder on a 10mm fisheye) and the result was super sharp. If you have purchased this lens, try this test, but make sure your viewfinder is calibrated first. If you plan on taking quick shots, or moving subjects, there is no way.. especially at f 2.8 where the depth of field is hair thin. I also noticed extreme chromatic aberrations at the corners, and ghosting when lights are in your shot. If you have any light/sun near your shot.. you will get flare. As for the f 2.8, it is not very good in low light (poor focus). The only way I was able to produce good images was when I switched to live view, picked a subject to focus on, switched to manual focus, zoomed in to 100% then focused. For the price I would expect a lens that performs consistently and as advertised. I am in the process of exchanging it for the Canon 10-22 wide angle lens.

Comments about Sigma 10mm f/2.8 EX DC HSM Fisheye Lens for Canon Digital Camera:

Since day one when I first bought a DSLR I wanted a fisheye lens. It was a little bit out of my budget due to the fact that it costed almost the same as my camera (Canon T3i). This lens is the best! I mean, you can take a mundane scenery, shoot it with the Sigma 10mm Fisheye Lens and it will end up looking AMAZING. I LOVE IT. It's been great for taking some shots of an airplane cockpit at night (very poor light) thanks to it's aperture of 2.8ƒ. What is not so good is that you have to get really close to the subject of the picture, but thats no problem thanks to it's amazing focus.

Comments about Sigma 10mm f/2.8 EX DC HSM Fisheye Lens for Canon Digital Camera:

Lens is awesome! AF is too soft and significant chromatic abrasion present, though sort of expected from a relatively inexpensive fisheye. Nevertheless, a super fun and a worthwhile buy.

It's a great lens! I gave it 4 stars, because I get chromatic (pinkish) aberration at the very horizontal edges, but other than that it's great. Maybe it's because the outer lens is a bubble. It's a keeper!

I bought this lens to use with my Canon 7D and it works wonderfully! There is a learning curve but it is a fast lens, a bit noisy but that doesn't bother me. The images are crisp and clear. I love it because you can use it as a wide angle lens or use different angles to get unique shots.

I like the results from this but it is extraordinarily large and heavy - much more so than my Canon 15/2.8 for full frame. Not sure why Sigma would design such a beast. A mixed review for sure.

Comments about Sigma 10mm f/2.8 EX DC HSM Fisheye Lens for Canon Digital Camera:

Comments about Sigma 10mm f/2.8 EX DC HSM Fisheye Lens for Canon Digital Camera:

If you have a crop sensor, the 10mm is the way to go. 15mm is for full frame! I almost made the mistake of buying the 15mm for my 60D, but i went into B&H superstore, and the guys there were really helpful while letting me test out the 2 lenses. if you are buying the 10mm with the intention of stepping up into a full frame camera in the near future, the built in lens hood gets in the way in every shot. Keep this in mind.As for the quality of the lens, I love the effect it gives. The amount of distortion on my camera is enough to make everyshot beautiful as intended for fish eye. Want to make grandma's smile huge and warped? use this lens. really funky and fun. Need to get the entire bathroom in the frame?. the angle of view is INSANE!the bad side is the way the lens picks up colours. on the little LCD it looks amazing, but bring it up in Light room, and you notice its not as awesome as you thought., Nothing a little correcting in LR wont fix- but enough to lose at least one star from me. Tip, try shooting monochrome in-camera.... it is sooooo much fun and sooo beautiful.-quick not before i make this too long. the lens comes wiht a really nice Sigma case and a really well built vignetting attachment that further makes the lens fun and creative.(the photo I've attached obv isnt to show the colour flaws. it is for the purpose of showing the angle of view on my 60D. taken on the MTA subway NYC.)

I have used this to film a local band and also to make a real estate video for my brother. It has great distortion for upclose skateboard style shots, but I was able to get rid of the distortion in photoshop for the real estate video. PS corrects this lens well and doesn't loose much fov.

I had my doubts about Sigma before I acutally bought one of their lenes. I was a bit weary of using any third party lenes to shoot. The build quality of this lens is outstanding. I shoot it on a crop sensor and and it still retains a really wide angle with the expected barrel distortion. I was also very impressed with its minimum focusing distance. I wish it was a little longer focal length but I could not be happier with this purchase.
