Questions? Ask our experts:

The A200 from Sennheiser is a lightweight and comfortable stereo headset designed to assist those who need artificial listening assistance. The earpieces fit comfortably in your ears and play audio that's received from the two built-in electret microphones. An auxiliary input is also provided for connecting an external microphone or IR receiver.

The A200 is designed for long periods of use. The included base station is used for storage and charging, and the headset can operate for approximately 10-12 hours on a full charge. A rotary switch on the bottom of the headset controls power and volume so you can set it to match your needs precisely. To adjust the bass of the headset, you can use the included sealing tapes to block off the small holes on the backs of the earpieces. The more holes blocked, the more the bass is attenuated. This can help to improve speech understanding without raising the volume.

Comments about Sennheiser A200 Stereo Assistive Listening Headset:

At higher amplification, say one half or 2/3rds or higher, there is bad "hiss". I thought it was coming
from one of my other pieces of electronic equipment, so I tried on another t.v. that
was totally isolated--still a bad hiss.
      Maybe it is defective??

Bought this for myself. I use it to watch TV primarilly. I can now listen at relatively low volumes. A great improvement over having to read dialogue. They are very sensitive but since they are omnidirectional they amplify all sounds equally.

Comments about Sennheiser A200 Stereo Assistive Listening Headset:

I bought this headset for my 100-year-old mother who has steadfastly refused to wear any hearing aids. Talking to her had become frustrating for everyone -- we constantly had to repeat every sentence. But the Sennheiser headset changed all that. She can now hear what's going on around her and we no longer have to repeat things or shout when we're talking to her. And the television is no longer heard throughout the house. Great, great product!

My 83-y/o mother is hearing-impaired and cannot wear "normal" in-ear hearing aids. This device has restored her ability to participate in conversation. It works wonderfully in all except a noisy crowd. She takes her "ears" with her everywhere she goes.

Comments about Sennheiser A200 Stereo Assistive Listening Headset:

I purchased for my father. Using the headset, he can hear some conversation and the TV. He says the headset is not as good as his hearing aids. He says the headset is handy to put on quickly. He does not like wearing his hearing aids and the hearing aids take fiddling with to turn on and put into his ears. He says the headset seems heavy and bothers his ears because of the weight. He says they are useful to put on to hear what Mom is saying at night.

Comments about Sennheiser A200 Stereo Assistive Listening Headset:

I bought the A200 for my 91 year old mother. It has been very frustrating for both of us to try to have a conversation. She has had some expensive hearing aids that needed repair or replacement. She had stopped wearing them and didn't want to spend the thousands of dollars it would take to replace them. And, with arthritis and painful shoulders it was difficult for her to put them in. My brother had bought her a TV listening device which worked well for her TV listening. We decided to look for something like it for conversation. We found it! The A200 has changed my mother's life. She is now back in the conversation. We are now having easy flowing communication once again. No more frustrations! The A200 is very simple to put on and take off. The volume is easy to adjust. She usually has it set on 3 out a 6 step volume control. She sets it on 4 for TV listening. She thought at first that her own voice was too loud but I think that is because she wasn't use to hearing it. She says it is fine now. The A200 is stereo so she can tell what direction the sound is coming from and can turn toward that person. She is hearing the birds sing for the first time in years. The earplugs sometimes work their way out of her ears causing some feedback. But, the A200 comes with three sets of earplugs and maybe one of the other sets would be a better fit for her. This is a fabulous product and I would highly recommend it to anyone. I plan to get one for myself if I become deaf. It is a tremendous value and an incredible savings over hearing aids! It is the right solution for someone who needs something simple to deal with. The sound quality is first rate and the overall quality of the product what you'd expect of a German company that has been a leader in audio products for decades.

Comments about Sennheiser A200 Stereo Assistive Listening Headset:

My mom has severe hearing loss at the age of almost 98. She has professionaly fitted hearing aids that cost her five grand. They worked well for 3 or 4 years, but now they don't seem to fit snugly enough in her ear, and as a result they feedback, so she doesn't use them anymore. We are told by the audiologist that it's time for new ones, that the old ones get "worn out". (Didn't hear about that when they were selling them to her.)

We tried the PocketTalker-thing, and that worked well, but you have to dangle the unit around your neck and then plug in earphones or earbuds to use it. The earphones kept slipping off her head, and the earbuds were always being pulled out of her ears when she moved and caught the wires in her arm.

We bought this Sennheiser with the hope that it would be comfortable for her to use. She has had them about 4 weeks now, and she uses them all the time. Because of the design of this system, there are no dangling wires to get caught up in. And, they seem to stay in her ears with no problem, they are very lightweight, and she hasn't complained that they are uncomfortable at all, unlike the earphones she had before. BY the way, she finds that if she wears them in front of her neck instead of the back of her neck, they don't bump into things when she's sitting leaning back on a chair or couch. So, be aware that you can wear them either way, and they are comfortable either way. She has the volume set a little above 3 (out of 5)and she hears very well with them. Without hearing assistance she can't understand someone standing 3 feet away speaking in a very, very loud voice, so her hearing loss is severe.

The batteries seem to last all day long for her, but I haven't kept track of how long she keeps it turned on every day. Now that we know she likes it we bought a spare battery which charges in the charging pod that came with it. Very nice design, nothing to plug into the unit, just stand it up in the charger base, and plug the base into the wall outlet. The spare battery fits in there at the same time in a separate slot.

Oh, yes, the fact that it is stereo (with TWO microphones picking up the sound, one on each side of the unit, gives directionality to the sound, so she can tell if the person talking is left, right or behind, etc. Small detail, but very important, really. With the monaural PocketTalker-thing she could hear voices, but didn't know where they were coming from, which can be disconcerting.

I always read reviews before buying anything, and I appreciate the time the reviewers spend to share their experiences, so in that spirit I am glad to share my (mom's) experience. I would not hesitate to buy these again.

Use the product to listen to the TV, the stereo, at the movies, in the theatre and at concerts.

the product is great at assisting you with increasing the volume whenever you personally need it in a variety of circumstances.

There is a strong feedback on the device if it is left at a high volume off of your head and then you go and try to place it on your head. It needs to be on before you start adjusting the volume.
