Good product but came with defect

Comments about Tiffen 52mm Red 1 #25 Glass Filter for Black & White Film:

This filter has a great feel to it. The ring is made of metal not some cheap plastic, so it seems like it was built to last. Its a good product but the one that I received came with an air bubble, straight out of the box. Looks like it was caused by a fingerprint in between the glass and film.

Comments about Tiffen 52mm Red 1 #25 Glass Filter for Black & White Film:

I bought this filter for my Canon 50mm f1.8 which I use on an old Canon EOS 650 camera. I normally shoot Kodak Tri-x for both street and landscapes and I wanted a red filter to darken the sky and bring up the over all contrast of the image. I certainly wasn't disappointed. I shot a roll (images with and without the filter) and developed it at home. I loved all of the images that had the filter on them. Needless to say, I'll be using this more often and am very satisfied with my purchase. It includes a nice little case and a 10 year warranty as well.

Comments about Tiffen 52mm Red 1 #25 Glass Filter for Black & White Film:

Prior to purchasing this Tiffen filter I had read reviews of people complaining that the filter they received had bubbles in it, that the pieces of glass were delaminating or poorly bonded. I ordered it all the same and sure enough i have two areas where the layers of glass are not perfectly bonded. They appear like bubbles and stretch about 5 or 6mm into the filter. In my case this won't matter as I'm using this on a Yashica TLR with an adapter and only need about 30mm of the center of the filter which is clean. I won't bother returning it, but I certainly will think twice before buying other Tiffen filters.

I use the red filter in black and white photography. I am a beginning photographer and have not gotten back the results of my first experiments with it. But I expect decent results for a novice. I read about the filter and it seemed just the thing for me as I am into photographing old barns and other old wooden structures whose exteriors are dark, aged wood. I expect the red #25 filter to perform well.

This filter, for B&W film photography, will increase contrast between cloud and sky. The effect is dramatic in landscape photos. I've used Tiffen filters for years. Quality is top notch, price is reasonable.
