The Tamrac 5550 Adventure 10 Backpack (Red/Black) is a backpack that carries and protects a Pro digital or film SLR with a grip and a lens up to 8.0" attached, additional lenses, a flash, accessories and a laptop. The backpack has a lower section that is a completely foam-padded camera bag compartment and an upper section that functions like a traditional backpack to hold a light jacket, lunch or other personal items. A separate, completely foam-padded compartment provides quick access to a laptop (such as an Apple 17" PowerBook G4 and other laptops up to 15 1/2 x 11 x 2.0") without disturbing photo gear.

The 5550 main compartment features double zipper pulls that provide quick access to photo gear while a weather flap and quick-release buckles provide security and weather protection. Inside, foam pillars support the camera with lens attached, ready for action, while adjustable, foam-padded dividers protect other equipment. There is a front pocket that features the Memory & Battery Management System that uses red flags to identify which memory cards and batteries are available. A Windowpane-Mesh pocket organizes filters, cables and other accessories. The foam-padded lower camera compartment has a weather flap and quick-release buckle for security and weather protection.

The 5550 has two mesh pockets on the sides, which provide quick access to accessories and water bottles. The comfortable, foam-padded backpack harness with sternum strap is contoured to distribute the weight of the camera gear across the shoulders and features a padded waist belt to help distribute the weight of the pack. Two lash tabs on the bottom of the backpack can accommodate a compact tripod (requires Model S-113 accessory straps). It features the S.A.S. (Strap Accessory System) attachment with points for customizing the bags with optional accessories and the M.A.S. (Modular Accessory System) attachment slots allow you to add optional accessories.

Comments about Tamrac 5550 Adventure 10 Backpack (Red/Black):

I purchased this to carry my camera and 17" laptop while traveling. It holds all of my important lenses, including my 70-200mm zoom and one camera body with no problem. Once loaded up, it's heavy, but gives good protection for the equipment inside. I won't be using this to carry my gear into the wilderness, but for good protection and storage while on the move this is a solid, although expensive pack.

Comments about Tamrac 5550 Adventure 10 Backpack (Red/Black):

Carry all my camera equipment and have room for other items, like a light jacket, rain gear, etc.
A little large; but, fits all my needs and then some. Easy for short trips and fits in airplane overhead compartment easily.

Comments about Tamrac 5550 Adventure 10 Backpack (Red/Black):

I bought this camera pack because I want to carry camera gear with on short day hikes (3-7miles) when I don't want to carry my primary day pack.

The Adventure 10 backpack has a good division between camera and hiking gear. There is room to carry a Canon 40D with a 100-400 lens attached for animal photography and there is room for filters, memory, and other gear. The top of the pack has room for lunch and most of the other 10 essentials for hiking. There is also a place to put a laptop computer. This is good for storage of a raincoat and shirt since I would never carry my laptop on the trail.

The one drawback is the waist strap which doesn't seem to work really well at holding the pack up or maintaining tension around the waist.

I would buy this pack again because I think it is one of the best of its type and it suits what i wanted.

Comments about Tamrac 5550 Adventure 10 Backpack (Red/Black):

This is the ultimate back-pack to carry all your gear. I mean all of it. It is as tall as another back-pack I own that the airports allowed me to take it as a carry-on. It looks bigger, but once you put them side by side, they are identical in size. The DV9500T laptop (17in HP) fits perfectly (my biggest concern). There is plenty room to care all I need with me (laptop gear and photo gear).

Once loaded, prepare for a heavy load. It is confortable to carry, with straps everywhere you need them.
