The Nikon ProStaff 550 Laser Rangefinder is a waterproof and fogproof "vertical" style rangefinder intended for use primarily by hunters. It offers distance measurement ranging up to 550 yards (or 500 meters) depending upon lighting conditions and the target's natural reflectivity, and uses a distance priority target system so that if you're ensconced in brush it will ignore these foreground targets and display the distance of the further recognized object. The ProStaff 550's streamlined shape, comfortable 6x magnification, and compact 21mm objective diameter allow it to be easily carried and operated with a single hand. A practical choice for a hunting rangefinder made by a quality sport optics company.

Comments about Nikon Prostaff 550 Laser Rangefinder (Green):
I bought this for measuring waterfalls. I photograph waterfalls all over the Rocky Mountains. I use this rangefinder with a clinometer to measure the heights of the waterfalls. It is easy to get a reading within the finder's range. I have not had too many problems acquiring a reading. Sometimes it is hard to get a reading when the target I am trying to read is small.

Comments about Nikon Prostaff 550 Laser Rangefinder (Green):
I am a hunter and needed a rangefinder that I could use for both bow and gun hunting. The clarity is great on the eye...and it ranges out to 600 yards on deer size targets which is perfect. I don't have a bad thing to say about this product.
This is the first time I bought something through B&H and it wont be the last. The cheapest price anywhere around for this quality product. Great customer service and timely delivery. Very satisfied!

Comments about Nikon Prostaff 550 Laser Rangefinder (Green):
I purchased this product #1 - Because I am a long time Nikon fan. #2 - I needed a ranging tool to myself to train myself to determine range to target by eye.
Although this rangefinder doesn't measure the incline / decline angle, it is a
lower cost unit that is packed full of useful features. Above all, I trust the Nikon brand.
The 4x magnification is more than enough for distance ranging for the long range shooter. The field of view is more than wide enough at 500 yards. Although I haven't found a need to range targets beyond that distance so far, this unit is simple to use & is good to go.
This rangefinder also doubles as a great spotting scope at 100 yards & closer. It's no 12x spotting scope, but this unit fits in a BDU cargo pocket!

Comments about Nikon Prostaff 550 Laser Rangefinder (Green):
This item does as it suggests with no bells and whistles.
Pros:
Fast and accurate
Lightwieght
Weatherproof
Cons:
Battery cover - I taped mine up straight
away and have not had a problem
Eyepeice - not as clear as I would have
liked and you have to push your eye into
the cup to see your target clearly.
Summary - I would have given this product 5 stars except for the eyepiece - viewing through the lens is Ok but not great. I know this is a budget item but I expect greater for the money.

Comments about Nikon Prostaff 550 Laser Rangefinder (Green):
Have not had a chace to hunt with it yet, but I have picked up several targets and have checked them several times at different times of the day and different weather conditions and always get the same readings. I check a couple with an old 100 foot tape and the readings are right on. Excellent product and excellent service.

Comments about Nikon Prostaff 550 Laser Rangefinder (Green):
Use the Nikon 550 for golf. Gives accurate distances and helps immensely with club selection.
Well built, small, light and easy to carry around.
Great value.
When the flag is still though, it is tough to pick it out from a background. Pinseeker technology from Bushnell might help there, but I have never used a Bushnell Rangefinder. Ranging to players on the green or the green itself works well as a substitute.
