This product exceeded my expectations. I recently bought a house overlooking the Pacific Ocean and wanted a spotting scope for viewing passing ships. I originally wanted the C90 but it was back ordered and I ordered the C70 instead. This scope is amazing for the price. The zoom is a nice feature not found in the C90. And the Cassegrain design shortens the scope so that it's more stable than a refractor. The optics are very good--no chromatic abberation that I can see--and the limiting factor in viewing is the atmospheric heat waves over two miles. Great scope--very portable--and for the price of a few large pizzas...I'm satisfied.

I use the scope for shooting and bird watching. I liked the price and have purchased Celestron products in the past. I was slightly disappointed in the resolution at higher power settings (too dark). Scope for shooting is very good at 25 yards, good at 50 yards, and fair at 100 yards. Birds watching is good at all powers. The tripod; however, is too wobbly to use at high power settings. Although, I liked the slow motion controls.

Comments about Celestron C70 Mini Mak 2.7"/70mm Maksutov-Cassegrain Spotting Scope Kit:
This is a small and lightweight unit with good optics. I use it for terrestrial viewing. The zoom eyepiece is good and It can accept standard 1.25 inch eyepieces with the included adapter. I am using a 40 mm Plossl. This gives me a magnification of about 18 with a very clear scene and good eye relief (I wear glasses). Az and El fine adjustments on the tripod are also nice.

The C70 Mini Mak is easy to set up. I use it at the range for spotting .22cal bullet holes. At 50x from 50yds, it is very clear. Fits easily into a range bag. Great value! I would recommend this product.

I wanted a small scope which will let me experience digi-scoping.
I had great fun digi-scoping birds from my apartment window. I manages to capture some good video with my small digicam.
I used the Celestron SCOPE /DIGITAL CAMERA ADAPTER to attach my digicam to the zoom eyepiece.

Comments about Celestron C70 Mini Mak 2.7"/70mm Maksutov-Cassegrain Spotting Scope Kit:
The build quality of this scope is about what you should expect for the price I suppose, but it is well below acceptable. It felt like the kind of product you'd buy direct from china with no brand name on it. The rubber wasn't attached well, and when you take the lens cover off, the rubber surrounding the lens usually comes off with it. I sent it back the day after I received it.

Comments about Celestron C70 Mini Mak 2.7"/70mm Maksutov-Cassegrain Spotting Scope Kit:
This scope is a great buy for the money. It focuses without shifting the image and is fairly easy to focus. Fairly small and compact too. Need good tripod to use it, but beats the heck out of other inexpensive spotting scopes. It would be nice if it had a sliding ring around the body at the mounting base so you could move the scope around to view the image from the side instead of only from the top.

Very impressive little scope. No, it will not compare to a higher priced scope naturally, but for the price you pay, you are getting a fantastic little performer. Sharp optics, nicely built and the ability to use other eyepieces. The mini-tripod is plastic, and it do the job, but I am going to use a metal mount I already own. Other than that, its an awesome bargain.

Comments about Celestron C70 Mini Mak 2.7"/70mm Maksutov-Cassegrain Spotting Scope Kit:
You would be hard pressed to find anything even close to this for this price. I have seen spotting scopes for three times the price that did not perform as well. The zoom eyepiece is very good at lower magnifications but the ability to use standard eyepieces really make this the great deal that it is.

Comments about Celestron C70 Mini Mak 2.7"/70mm Maksutov-Cassegrain Spotting Scope Kit:
The Celestron C70 is an incredible bargain. The cheap spotting scope I have is NOT sharp at high powers. The C70 is. The only improvement I would ask for is lower gearing for its focusing.Target shooters, from what I can find on the Internet, evidently don't know about the C70. Celestron is making a HUGE mistake by not advertising its qualities in the NRA's American Rifleman magazine. C70s would sell like hotcakes.

Comments about Celestron C70 Mini Mak 2.7"/70mm Maksutov-Cassegrain Spotting Scope Kit:
Cons are; included tripod isn't anything special and there isn't anything lower than 25x. The scope works great up to about 50x and then becomes difficult to focus and brightness drops off, but that's to be expected from anything this size which is really quite small and portable. At less than $100 its an excellent value

Great entry level spotting scope
I have been using it when lifeguarding to spot ships off shore, bathers in distress across the beach and bird watching. Focusing is the most delicate part of the device but the lens is amazing for the price and the dinky little tripod is shaky but great when you get use to it.

I am using this as an all purpose telescope for birdwatching, digiscoping and astronomy. I have had larger telescopes but did not use the as much because they were to much trouble to setup and get working. With the C70 I can take it outside and in minutes take a quick look at the moon with my 7 year old or zoom in on a woodpecker across the road.
Nice little item and I can take telephoto pictures that I can't with my mega zoom cameras.
