The Celestron Motor Drive for AstroMaster Telescopes has a variable speed motor, which can accurately track celestial objects. This single axis drive works on equatorial mounts and allows you to maintain total control over your scope whether automatically or manually. Hemisphere control (north/south) is controlled by a switch. Depending on weather conditions, the 9V batteries will last up to 40 hours.

Well, it does its job right. It keeps the telescope aligned, but there are a few small annoying things about it. For one the case is loose and kind of just flops around, and it is a bit loud, especially with the case on. But the most annoying thing is a feature that it is lacking: A clutch for fine tuning it manually. Once it is screwed on the only way you can manually adjust the alignment of the scope is to loosen it up and move it around by hand. That's kind of annoying. Other than that though, it works!

I got this motor so I could do ultra slow timelapse with my slider dolly. It is nice and cheap, but it is just that, cheap. The motor cuts in and out. I don't know if it's a bad connection or what, but I checked it as best I can and can't figure out why it keeps cutting out. Sometimes, I have to switch the on, off button back and forth to get it running again. I might have just gotten a bad one, but I wish I would have saved my money. It's pretty much useless to me.

Comments about Celestron Astromaster Motor Drive:
I am building a unique time lapse rig. I feel that to obtain the lengthy time lapse shots that I'm going for, I will have to build a solid unit. The problem I ran into with these motors was that the collar locks now use on them are made "springy" for lack of a better word. I'm sure that this helps when mounting these motors on a telescope, but may not be this best unit to purchase for other uses (Do however note that these are made for telescopes in the first place, and not what I am using them for). I would just like to see an option to purchase motors with what I believe to be their old style color locks, the locks without the spring like give to them.
Solid locks like the ones used, with two bore sizes, are also something that I've yet to even find.
Base on what I have learned so for, I think that as soon as I find a collar locks that work, the motors will work well.

I bought this to move my camera along my slider for timelapse photography. Did the trick well. Need to gear down between the motor drive & the slider to slow things down further, enabling me to do longer timelapses over a period of 8 hours or more. Currently will move the camera over the 31 inches in 1-4 hours, depending on the speed dialed in.

I used the product to hook up to a pocket dolly so I can make some motion timelapses. It was pretty difficult to put the battery together, but after I got it figured out it wasn't a problem.

i have been looking for years for a motor drive for my old Celestron C4.5 telescope, this drive fits and works great! If you have an older scope, it is worth the effort!

Comments about Celestron Astromaster Motor Drive:
The Celestron worm gears are very cheap, therefore periodic error is pronounced. Also, tension on the worm gear varies...at times it is very easy to turn, at other times very tight. This causes the motor to speed up and slow down. The error I've seen is less than one arc-minute...totally acceptable, and barely noticeable for visual viewing. But, for astrophotography, forget it! Without a "fast" or "slow" button in your hand, you watch the star drift off your crosshairs and there is nothing you can do about it.

I was suprised...
the instructions were completed. I opened the paper and followed the directions and they were thorough.
In addition I used my own 9v battery as I did not expect one to be included.. WHICH IT WAS!!!!
I had to remove the mounting plate but the one for my son's telescope was included!!! for the Celestron 76EQ.
Oh yes there was even an allen wrench!!!!
Comments about Celestron Astromaster Motor Drive:
The motor drive was defective right out of the box, never worked. Several reviewers also had this issue, but I went ahead and took a chance that it wouldn't happen to me -oops.
B&H was very fast to respond, excellent customer service!
