Manfrotto 014-14 Rapid Adapter - 5/8" Stud to 1/4-20" Thread
The Manfrotto 014-14 Rapid Adapter is a locking adapter that fits any light stand with a 5/8" top stud, and will allow vertical or horizontal mounting of a light fixture, flash, or camera that has a 1/4"-20 threaded receptor.

The concept of this piece of equipment is great, but I think we must've gotten a dud. We intended to use 2 of these to mount a slider to 2 light stands, but before we could even get it tightened on the light stand the bolt snapped in half. I believe the slider was well within the weight limit. We'll send it back in and try again with a 3/8" thread.

This little unit is simply a good little piece. Strongly built. The shaft and nut would be nice if they were a little thicker because I was a little afraid it might break off with my Beauty dish attached but I just backed it up with 2 fender washers and it seems to hold perfect.

I own two of these and use them on Bogen 2-section articulated swivel arms to put Nikon speedlights in some otherwise awkward spaces. On top of the rapid adaptors, I put mini-ball heads and on top of that I screw in the Nikon speedlight stands that came with my SB-800s. And I put the whole shebang (articulated swivel arm with rapid adaptor and mini-ball head) on a Bogen super clamp. This is a great way to mount a flash in a space that's too tight for a light stand.
