Simply a necessity if you do not like to bang your nose in to the LCD screen and to leave smudges - unless you have a really big nose !
    Go for it !
Note: will not fit XTi,20D, 30D, 40D and the latest 50D.
If you have one of these, you will need the same part number but without the extension of the roman two.
For these cameras check the EP-EX15 Eyepiece Extender.

Compared to the EP-EX15, this extender is smaller overall. When added between the body (of a 30D or 40D) and the eyecup, this piece is quite a bit smaller than the eyecup.

The EP-EX15 sits flush to the body as well as the eyecup but the EP-EX15 II seems to be just too small. Seems to function identically between the two versions.

If asthetics is a concern, you may want to consider the EP-EX15 if you have a 30D or 40D.

Comments about EP-EX15 II Eyepiece Extender for Select Canon DSLRs:

As many other photographers I bought this one to separate nose/cheek from display and keep cleaning it after a few photos. It does work well but you would probably like to remove the inner lens as it reduces the viewfinder image (being already small for an SL1), besides that it holds firmly to the camera and it looks good.

It also helps a lot in preventing your viewfinder from getting dirty with dust, splashes or your own eyelashes.

Comments about EP-EX15 II Eyepiece Extender for Select Canon DSLRs:

I too wound up removing the lenses as I didn't like the 30% reduction in viewfinder image size. (I'm getting older I guess.)The reduction in size is so you can see the entire viewfinder from the increased distance.) You do have to leave the spacers in so that it mounts properly on the camera. The trade-off in removing the lenses is not being able to see the entire view finder without shifting your eye a little. I did notice that I had to shift my eye somewhat even without the extender mounted, so that I can accept. I suppose removing the lenses would be a personal choice. Other than that, it works great! 4.5 Stars

It's nice and I would give it a five star but it doesn't fit my 5D III so I sold it to a friend. It may cause an issue with fitting the camera into a bag. It would have been nice if it came with a small bag to put it in if you have to remove it every time you put your camera into a bag if needed.

I purchased this for my Canon 70D which the description claims that it supports. However, it does not. The image in the viewfinder is blurry. Others that have reviewed this have had similar results and there are some recommendations to by the EP-EX15 version.

Comments about EP-EX15 II Eyepiece Extender for Select Canon DSLRs:

Needed this to help keep a rain coat on my DSLR.
The rain coat would keep slipping over the shorter eyecup, letting rain get underneath.

Easy to install. Works well to extend the eyecup.
If you don't like the fact that the image through the viewfinder becomes smaller, it is possible to take out the small lens.

I purchased this to get my nose off of the view screen and also to let me see all of the frame and info on the eye level viewer. I find that it does that well and the reduced size and slight barreling are not a hindrance. I can also now wear my glasses while composing the picture.

Nothing wrong with product, but at the time of ordering the 70D, an eyepiece extender was not listed under the accessories for the 70D and between the salesman and I, we got it wrong. The 70D takes the EP-EX, not the II version.
I have this extender on two other cameras and love it.

If you wear eyeglasses, you need this item. It kicks the camera away from your glasses just the right amount - no more rubbing your nose with the camera body. Yeah! Glory Hallelujah! Amen! The older EP-EX15 I (as opposed to the "II" model praised here, is often available cheap as a used item. It does not fit newer EOS cams- seems like it does, till it starts to fall off time after time.

Since the extender is new I haven't yet used it a lot. I wear eyeglasses and it looks like this will help me with the viewfinder image. The only difficulty I had was not in respect to the extender but with the foam eye cup that has to be removed and reattached. I haven't learned the trick to that.

Comments about EP-EX15 II Eyepiece Extender for Select Canon DSLRs:

I really like this eyepiece extender when used with my 5D Mark II. However, it comes with a caveat - you need to remove the lens pieces for best results.

The lens pieces give you a narrower field of view and cause distortion in the viewfinder. All you have to do to remove them is find a screwdriver that will fit the tiny screws that hold the eyepiece extender together. Once disassembled, you can easily remove the lens pieces, put the unit back together, and enjoy a better viewfinder experience.

Comments about EP-EX15 II Eyepiece Extender for Select Canon DSLRs:

Yeah, it reduces the viewfinder's image size some but not so much as to be a problem. The neat thing is that allows the generously proboscised among us to get our eye close the viewfinder's image. It's especially good for those of who must wear spectacles. I can now get the lens of my glasses right up against the viewfinder's eyecup. My schnozz is generous enough that it still touches the LCD but not as badly as with the stock Canon configuration.

Make sure to research camera compatibility. It doesn't fit 'em all. I actually found a more comprehensive list in the Vello substitution product's page but I wouldn't recommend buying the Vello unit. I did and instantly regretted it. Besides, the genuine Canon piece is only two dollars more.

Comments about EP-EX15 II Eyepiece Extender for Select Canon DSLRs:

First I would have to share that I'm a wearer of eyeglasses and this helps a lot to view the frame and seeing the meter reading at the bottom of my 5D MKii view finder. What is not apparent with the previous reviews is that there is a slight parallax when using this extension. The sides are bowed and it can appear as though you are looking through a fish eye lens. I would have to say this 'negative' aspect of the extension is outweighed by the convenience of the being able to see the entire frame without shoving my face into the back of the camera (who wants that!?). With this said, beware if the parallax will bug you. I suggest to check your photos for distortion by either tethering to a computer or viewing on the back of your LCD.Other than that, I like it and I will continue to use it until I can't stand the parallax anymore. I wish this was corrected, but for the price, can't really complain too much.
