The Letus35 LT35MINI43 is a lens adapter for 35mm still camera lenses to adapt for use on small video cameras. This adapter allows the video camera to have access to prime lenses with a shallow depth of field.
- Shallow Depth of Field
- Shallow Depth Of Field is a very powerful tool for telling a story and getting details across. Many movies use this feature yet cameras nowadays with small CCDs cannot produce this optical effect. The main purpose of this adapter is to bring shallow depth of field film look to low budget filmmakers with DV or HDV cameras.
- How it Works
- This adapter involves the concept of using a 35mm SLR still camera lens to project an image onto a translucent piece of moving glass. This projected image is then literally focused on by the DV or HDV camera and recorded. All this takes place in a tube.
- Quality
- Letus35's concentration is on sharp focus, aberration, grains, barrel distortions, audible noise, vibrations and weight making their adapters an excellent optical accessory. They immediately update their adapters, if they find that changes are necessary.
- 43mm
- The 43mm adapter ring in this kit will attach the Mini to small camcorders featuring a 43mm filter thread on the lens.

Easy to attach to camera, gives a more filmick look, simple instructions for use, is heavier than I thought so needs a rail attachment.

To use with a video camera as compact camescope. 43 to 46 mm diameter. (When adding step-up/down rings)
The great thing about it : I discovered the use of 35 mm like at an affordable pleasure/price. Mini35 starter prisme gives an idea of what 35 mm format can be. It also offers some interesting perpectives concerning the works around photography within video.
The not so great thing about it : It is a very limited use. (loss of stops, possible vignetting, often needs some support systems to work with as rods, plates, follow focus, shoulder mount, tripod mount...

The price drop is really nice and appropriate. Results are amazing. But Im a bit disappointed with the construction of the lens. I had a fingerprint on the ground glass of my lens from the manufacturer, noticeable from the first use. the front protective glass fell in on me after a few months of use. it was held together with superglue originally. Lucky with the warranty though. Still the best quality available in the industry.

Best thing I could have ever purchased for my HV20. Using different lenses to gain a DoF makes the world of difference.

I've had this hooked up to my Canon HV30 to work on a documentary. The amazing DOF effect is something I've not experienced with a video camera. I'm using a Nikon prime lens, 50mm f1.8 and in combination with the 24p and cinemode setting on my HV30, I get some beautiful footage.
The initial setup was a bit puzzling, I'm still not sure that I have perfect, but it must be close enough for what I'm shooting.
