Before I used this on a lens or optical sensor, I tested it on a Kodachrome slide. The slide was over 30 years old. I used a blower on it, scanned it optically at 4000-ppi, viewed it at 100% (pixel-to-pixel) and noticed all the darks spots, indicating dust.
I then used the LensPEN (Nikon brand, but I believe only one company makes them all), brush first, followed by the "cup" and lastly a cotton swab to wipe clean anything left by the cup. I finished with a Giottos blower like the first time.
I re-scanned as above. Virtually all black spots were gone, and no marks were added, e.g., scratches, etc. This process was done to both sides of the film. Since it did not scratch the emulsion, I believe this to be very safe and useful for lenses and optical sensors.
I'll store it in a ziploc bag when not in use (no brush cover).

Works well, as advertised. Easy to use, very portable. Does require more rubbing than I expected. It sometimes takes 15-20 seconds of rubbing to get rid of all smears. I did not see any instructions regarding whether or not I need to rotate the cap to "recharge" the felt pad with the reservoir in the cap. I assume that's necessary after each use, but I'm not sure.

I always have this with me and a blower. Great for keeping the lens clean- it's amazing how much dirt you can pick up when working oudoors. This is my second one, I gave the first to a friend. I do not use the felt side, it seems to always leave streaks that I then need to clean with a cloth- this is why I gave it 4 stars, not five.
