Comments about Cinevate Inc CI-RA-AS-000002 Universal Rails Block:
Could serve as a building block of a DIY 15mm rails system. Grips the rails securely. Incorporates 3 tapped 14" 20 holes and one hole which fits snugly on a standard 5/8" grip stud.

Comments about Cinevate Inc CI-RA-AS-000002 Universal Rails Block:
Best use for this rails block is to mount accessories to 15mm rods, NOT to mount rods to something like a camera bracket. I bought this block thinking I could attach a pair of rods to an existing custom made EX3 shoulder mount bracket. Unfortunately, the plastic heads on the locking screws extend beyond the flat machined base of the block. So unless your bracket is 3" or less in width, forget using this block. (You can turn it upside down, but that lowers the position of the rods.
If your use is to mount accessories onto an existing rod system, it will work well and I'd give it four stars. The plastic screw locks cannot be pulled out to turn the tab to a position that will not interfer with an accessory, so that is also a disadvantage.

Comments about Cinevate Inc CI-RA-AS-000002 Universal Rails Block:
I use this rail block as a way to connect my custom handgrip to my HDSLR rig. It is very sturdy/solid, and the metal has a very nice finish that just feels special. It's nice when you can tell that a lot of thought has been put into such a simple component. Also dig that there are two tightening knobs. Some people complain about them, saying they are too small to manipulate. I think these people just have bunion hands. The only way this block could be improved was if the knobs ratcheted, so that they never got in the way of odd components secured to the block.

Comments about Cinevate Inc CI-RA-AS-000002 Universal Rails Block:
Well its well made and solid, but the thumb screws are small enough to hurt your fingers to get a tight grip on your rods. the vertical hole in the middle is 19mm so you cannot use this thing to mount two 15mm rods onto a Zacuto Striker and try to do a DIY fly-weight follow-focus/matte-box job like i wanted to do. bit of a pain really because your stuck buying the vastly overpriced stuff.
Anyway as it goes this is probably great, I havent used anything else like it so I dont know if it really is or not, its just $20 more then it should have been.

used this to build a rails system for my EX3 and 5DII. Was able to use the threaded holes to fasten the camera and tripod plates easily.

This is an absolute necessity for any 15mm lightweight rods setup. And I'm glad to see a company not ripping us off.I should have gotten two of these because they are so versatile. I mounted a battery, and wireless video system to this little guy and I probably could still have fit my monitor on there too somehow.Top AND bottom 1/4 screw holes, a 19mm rod hole through the middle and another 1/4 x 20 hole on one side with grooves. One thing I do agree with is that the knobs could be a little easier to tighten. Easy fix though. Just go to [...] and get some new ones! $2 max.I am extremely happy with this little guy.

Great solid block.. what more can you ask for?
Used with RedRock Micro rails.
those little screws can use a better re-design, my thumbs hurt trying to tighten/loosen it.

Using this piece to mount a DIY follow focus. It is light weight too. Would give 5 stars but the plastic tipped screws are a little hard to turn to get the rails gripped nice and tight. Maybe there is a break-in period...
