I mostly use this flash on and off camera in manual mode. I love the 180º of swivel, auto/manual zoom, back light, ease of use, and size.
The thing I really dislike is the way the LCD cycles through the various mode functions in only one direction (e.g. if your in manual mode at full power and you want to set it at say 1/4 power and you accidentally set in 1/8 power you have to cycle through all power settings until you get back to 1/4--you can't just go back).
I'd really love to see a PC connection on this flash for off-camera use. These limitations notwithstanding, this is an excellent little flash for those who don't wish to pay as much for a Canon 580 flash.

The E-TTL will not work with the T1i. It works fine in manual mode but the menu controls make it hard to adjust the exposure up and down. This is fine for portraits and other controlled situations but not good for spontaneous or less predictable lighting situations. It did work fine down to 1/320 sec for sports.

Comments about Sunpak PZ42X TTL Shoe Mount Flash:
Picked this unit up a few weeks ago and was working fine until it just stopped working. Suspecting that my old rechargeable batteries where at fault, I bought new Eneloop batteries from B&H but unit is still not working (Batteries are fine as I've tried them in an LED light I purchased). Very disapointed with my purchase as I'll now have to return unit (if I still can) and buy another. I live in Canada, so returing will add extra cost.. I would not recommend this flash.

Comments about Sunpak PZ42X TTL Shoe Mount Flash:
i bought this for an event I had to photograph for our middle school. While I was at the event I really liked it, until it stopped working it would power on but not flash. I had a sunpak digiflash 3000 for a year and then I accendently broke it. so I got this I really liked the pictures it took. But I am sending it back because it wstopped working during the event I was photographing.

Comments about Sunpak PZ42X TTL Shoe Mount Flash:
Very happy with this flash. I bought this to replace my Sigma that died and I am glad I bought the Sunpak.
Even at 30 feet, the recycle time is between instant and a half a second, and that was with 3 year old NiMH batteries.
My camera is a Canon Dital XTi and the Sunpak seems more tollerant to distance and takes correctly exposed shots from 10 feet and upwards.
With my old Sigma I was constantly adjusting the camera flash EV for close up and bounce flash shots.
The unit seems well made and is not oversized, and seems to have good flash output too.
I have only used it on the auto setting. In manual mode I did manage to adjust the EV setting up and down, but see no need to. I tried some bounce shots of the ceiling and I think it is easier to adjust the flash EV in the camera menu if you need a half stop or so extra exposure. The manual mode menu system in the flash need some getting used to.

Comments about Sunpak PZ42X TTL Shoe Mount Flash:
Use with a Graslon Dome Diffuser. Works great but is a little strong without a diffuser tends to overexpose form the lens to about 10 feet out. Does not recycle as fast as advertised. Seems heavy but high quality.

Comments about Sunpak PZ42X TTL Shoe Mount Flash:
I'm no expert with a flash, and needed to take pictures at a party. I put batteries in, put it on my 50D and did 45* bounce flash shots and got great pictures. Far better photographers than myself saw the pictures and complimented the tone and lighting.
Positives:
Price
Ease of use
Feels high-quality
Fully lights a 20X20 room with 45* bounce
Negatives:
After ~40 exposures the time to charge gets quite long - so keep extra batteries.

Comments about Sunpak PZ42X TTL Shoe Mount Flash:
The flash performed very well. I've seen some reviewers complain about slow recycle time, but I had no problems with the flash even in burst mode shooting 5 consecutive frames. I was using lithium batteries so that may have made the difference.
I found the tilt and swivel worked well for bouncing the flash off walls and ceilings and the built-in wide angle diffuser worked well for those wide angle shots.

Comments about Sunpak PZ42X TTL Shoe Mount Flash:
I am really excited to use my new shoe mount flash. I did a ton of research prior to purchasing this model, and everything I read / researched indicated that this was a great product. The most common complaint was slow recycling, but realistically, this is a non-issue for most photographic scenarios.

Comments about Sunpak PZ42X TTL Shoe Mount Flash:
I put this flash to work as soon as I received it and have been very impressed. So far, I can't fault it. I have a Canon DSLR and take photographs of small exhibits at a local museum where I supply my own equipment. I needed some flash-fill light for some exhibits and Canon flashes were too expensive. I have used it on auto and on the manual settings and have had no trouble balancing its output with the other light sources.

Comments about Sunpak PZ42X TTL Shoe Mount Flash:
Exceeded my expectations for the price. Recycle time is reasonable (at 1/8th & 1/4 power). E-TTL ii seems to work just fine. My only gripe is that it shuts off automatically after 5-10 minutes without use. Just need to swicth it off an on again to resume as normal. And like all other flashes, good batteries make all the difference with it.
