      Finally!

      By DanTheMan

Comments about Wide Angle 35mm f/2.8 C Biogon T* ZM Manual Focus Lens - Black:

This is my third copy of this lens. All three have been optically fantastic! That's the only reason I gave this lens another chance. The first copy would barely fit on the Leica M Mount. The second one had a sticky focus ring and just had a cheap feel to it--everything felt loose. I was so mad, I wrote Zeiss. This third copy however is great! Sharp, focuses smoothly, and accurately on my rangefinder, and fits like a glove. For the price, I have no complaints! It still doesn't feel like it's built as perfectly as any of my Leica lenses, but it still feels really good. Is recommend this lens with the caveat being: if you buy one that's not right, send it back and get another and another until you get one that is right. It's worth it. No distortion(visible), sharp, well calibrated, no finder blockage, etc... Great lens

Comments about Wide Angle 35mm f/2.8 C Biogon T* ZM Manual Focus Lens - Black:

The Biogon is a perfect gem of a lens -- compact, all metal, built to exacting standards. It's just about as perfect as an f/2.8 lens can get. I had been dithering between this lens and the slightly larger Zeiss 35mm f/2. And I'm glad that I bought this one. Its size makes an entirely inconspicuous kit when coupled with one of those plain black Voigtlanders. Which makes it, in turn, perfect for classic rangefinder-style street shooting.

I have this lens mounted on my bessa r4m. It's compact, light, and very sharp at all apertures. Truly a poor mans leica glass. I just wish it a focus handle like the leica 35mm summicron instead of the silly focus nub, which my finger slides on and off of when pulling focus to get a quick shot. Come on zeiss!!

Comments about Wide Angle 35mm f/2.8 C Biogon T* ZM Manual Focus Lens - Black:

Just registered this lens after getting first test roll of B&W shots back. Used Tri-X for the test and the proof prints and scans are astounding. Detail. . .sharp, very sharp. Tonal values and grain are very good. I like this. Used a 23A orange filter on it too. Nice effect on sky and clouds.

Fit, construction and finish seem to be excellent. The f/2.8 is fast enough for me as I mostly shoot outdoor with available light. The lens is small and the entire outfit, lens and Ikon rangefinder body are a great size and weight. Easy to carry and shoot.

After looking at the massive hand cannon DSLRs, I decided to go for something different. . .a camera and lens that reminded me of photography when it was the photographer and the camera and lens was all that was required. . .and some film too. A rangefinder setup was the logical choice.

Digital is great for many things, but this is pure and simple classic photography. Film sales are increasing as people are moving back to film cameras or adding film to their digital gear kit.

It's all good, and so is this lens.

Comments about Wide Angle 35mm f/2.8 C Biogon T* ZM Manual Focus Lens - Black:

This is a truly fine, well-constructed, solid feeling lens. Some mild vignetting and softness at the corners when wide open, but this goes away at f/4 or smaller apertures. I have been happy with this lens on a Leica M9 and (via adapters) a Sony NEX-7 and a Fuji X-Pro 1. The depth of field indicators, so sadly lacking on most lenses these days, make it a winner for zone focusing during street photography.

Comments about Wide Angle 35mm f/2.8 C Biogon T* ZM Manual Focus Lens - Silver:

This was my first lens for my new travel set up. (sony nex5n) Its very well built and the focus ring is well damped but very very smooth. The color and contrast reminds me very much of my Nikkor 24-70mm 2.8G. This lens along with the Zeiss 50mm 1.5 Sonnar and Nikkor 105mm 2.5 ais will be my new lightweight travel setup.
Without pixel peeping, the images these small Zeiss lenses produce are on par with my pro Nikon lenses. I only wish it had better close focusing distance.

Comments about Wide Angle 35mm f/2.8 C Biogon T* ZM Manual Focus Lens - Silver:

In a nutshell: small, light, sharp and inexpensive. An excellent optic with a nice rendering and works perfectly on the M9. I prefer the silver finish which makes the lens markings more easily read under various lighting conditions and will be more durable than the black paint IMHO but wouldn't look right on a black camera (I have the grey).

Great lens. f/2.8 is about as slow as I would want to go for 35mm. It produces wonderful colors, contrast, and sharpness. Sold my Leica Summicron for $$$ and only spent $ on this lens. Great build quality, and superb optics.

I also have the Leica 35mm Summarit f/2.5 lens. The Zeiss 35mm f/2.8 Biogon C is equal in sharpness wide open to the Summarit. It renders a quality that I really like, especially in portraits. It appears to as well made as the Summarit. Only time will tell. I like the focusing knob on the Leica better, however, otherwise, I am very happy and quite pleased with this little jewel. Bokeh and contrast is also quite pleasing. I wished it came with lens hood and I also wished it had a 39mm filter thread. Oh well, those reasons are not enough to not to get this lens.

Comments about Wide Angle 35mm f/2.8 C Biogon T* ZM Manual Focus Lens - Black:

I am using on my Leica M9 it has exceptional contrast, edge to edge sharpness,at any f/stop. It's relatively fast f/stop allows use of more natural light in portraits than with any other lens I own.
I have also used it for photographing landscapes, buildings and construction sites. It has never done anything but make my work look great. It is compact and very lightweight, I enjoy using my hand meter for accurate readings, and I haven't had this much fun in years!
The Black and White conversions made with this lens are comparable in tonality to darkroom printing.

Comments about Wide Angle 35mm f/2.8 C Biogon T* ZM Manual Focus Lens - Black:

I owm a Leica M7 and M8.2 and I love these cameras as "pro grade" traveling cameras. I usually pack a 35mm and a 85/90mm with a tripod (with a multi raw pano. head) and a few filters to go around the World. With that, I can do everything with a very very small back pack (even 200M pixels Gigapans). After having bought the Zeiss ZF trilogy 21/35/100mm for my Nikon D700 from lens, I was so impressed that I decided to try ZM lenses on my Leicas, while keeping my Leica 35mm ASPH f2.0 and 90mm f2.8. Well, the results are clear. This Zeiss ZM is incredibly sharp at all apertures. The quality of the images delivered are perfect corner to corner. In a simple word, it is at the same level that the Leica equivalent, for 1/3 of the price. Now, I know that I can sell my used Leica lenses at a very good price... Not sure these Zeiss are going to keep their market value over the years. Fantastic products, I love it and I will keep it anyway. Thanks Zeiss!

Using this on an M9 for general out and about photos during the day. What a lovely lens! exceedingly sharp across the whole (full) frame, nice colours - slightly on the warm side of neutral, smooth bokeh, compact, I am absolutely delighted with this lens!
bonus - the hood from my 40mm VC Nokton fits perfectly! (same factory)

Comments about Wide Angle 35mm f/2.8 C Biogon T* ZM Manual Focus Lens - Black:

This little lens is stunning. It is pretty short so it won't increase the width of your camera much. This is important as I have this mounted on a Sony NEX-3 and it is my carry around camera.

The real key, however, is that the lens is sharp and wonderfully contrasty wide open. I have a Voigtlander that is the same size. It can open up to f/1.4 but it is pretty soft that wide. You have to stop it down pretty much to f/4 before it is as sharp as the Zeiss is at f/2.8 in the middle. It pretty much never catches up in the corners.

So while it would be nice if it were a bit faster, I like that it is very, very good however I want to use it.
