The Manfrotto 244 Variable Friction Magic Arm is a fully articulated arm with 90° pivotable and 360° rotatable ends, and an elbow that rotates 360°. The knob allows partial loosening for safe and precise positioning of a light head or camera. It has 5/8" studs on ball joints at both ends with 3/8 and 1/4" female threads. Although it is supplied with a camera platform, it requires a Super Clamp or Base (available separately) for use.

Although it does grip super tight and does not slip or become loose whatsoever, I found that when I attached a Canon 5D and a 24-205mm lens, the whole rig wobbles slightly, and it shows up in the photos with blurring and smearing when using it for long exposures, especially when zooming in. I wouldn't recommend it for long exposures with heavier cameras on the end of it.
Also the Empire State Building would not allow it past the security check point no matter what I told them- they knew what it was and don't want cameras being clamped to the fencing.

Comments about Manfrotto 244 Variable Friction Magic Arm with Camera Bracket:
This is an extremely useful and well designed photographers tool. Holds my Sony A57 with 75-300mm lens firmly in any position that I place it.
The Impact super clamp must be purchased as an accessory to the Magic Arm. It clamps well on to any surface or railing and holds the Magic Arm and attached camera firmly without any wobble. The whole assembly is very light and portable.
Definitely a 'must have' item for any serious photographer

I am using this adjustable tripod arm with iPads in the classroom. Along with a Graffiti Nottle this tripod is a perfect way to secure the iPads for stop-motion animation. The product is well designed, totally flexible and adjustable in all directions.

Comments about Manfrotto 244 Variable Friction Magic Arm with Camera Bracket:
With this Pro-quality bracket and a super clamp, I can easily & reliably mount a piece of equipment to a door, pipe, railing or other structure, and then adjust its position for best effect. It is sturdy enough to mount a remote camera(with the camera bracket)or a flash (without). Can be used as a sturdy mini-tripod, or mini-boom. Always in my bag.

It seems small and lightweight but the 244 Magic Arm can carry weight. We use it primarily to hold remotes for sports, e.g.. backboard camera. Make sure to always use safety cables as extra security.

Comments about Manfrotto 244 Variable Friction Magic Arm with Camera Bracket:
This may not be the most useful review as I have only used the arm once, but it did very well. I mounted the arm behind a backboard for a college basketball game in New Mexico and it didn't budge at all. I had one of my 5d mark III's with the battery grip and a 15mm fisheye mounted on it and it put up with the weight of it just fine even through multiple dunks, warm-ups, and players colliding with the goal. No complaints so far, will be using it again many times this season and so far I trust it to continue getting the job done.

Comments about Manfrotto 244 Variable Friction Magic Arm with Camera Bracket:
I cant believe how handy this arm is.... I got it just to shoot some POV road Biking but I have used it for everything from, iPad desk table, bounce card holder, light mount, to snack tray! Sturdy and very versatile, standard Manfrotto build quality (heavy duty and reliable). I'm not too keen on placing any of my cameras on just any type of mount as they are my living... but I have no problem using this magic arm and a superclamp to put a camera in any situation.
