Our Bogen 503 fluid head came with one of these and we bought another as a spare in case of emergency. Using these we get a few extra inches to balance various camera rigs properly on the tripod head - they also allow us to swap out cameras easily. We just leave these plates attached to the cameras.
The only thing I'd change is that Bogen use better glue to keep the rubber bumpers attached to the plate - they tend to fall off or bunch up. Thankfully, a little superglue makes it right.

This quick release came with my Manfrotto ball head. I have two cameras and for convenience sake, bought two extra ones. I keep a release on both cameras and have an extra just because.

Comments about Manfrotto 501PL Sliding Quick Release Plate with 1/4"-20 & 3/8" Screws:
I need lots of extra plates -- different cameras, lots of rigs, I have quick release adapters on a number of camera supports. It's fine -- it works, is the same one that comes with their heads. Not sure anything else needs to be said?

Comments about Manfrotto 501PL Sliding Quick Release Plate with 1/4"-20 & 3/8" Screws:
Works perfectly with heads that use the RC 5 quick release system. Solid part, I have no concerns about it failing. I had to order this part due to a camera that was sold and had accidentally left the plate on it.

It's a tripod plate, so it's not going to change the world. But, these work on pretty much any camera, and lock down solid. I've had a ton of weight hanging off of these with no problems.

I've found that it's a good idea to have one of these on the bottom of each camera I own, plus one spare just in case. They're a little pricey for what they are. Also, the rubber pads have come unglued and peeled off one of the ones I own. Other than that they're fine and get the job done.

This tripod is awesome. it slides on perfectly to compatible manfrotto tripods. I will definitely buy this product again, and I have multiple plates for my various cameras.
Its long enough so that it doesn't tilt one way or another when you lay it flat on a smooth surface.
they are durable, and won't break easily. I've had it on some rough surfaces over the years, and find that it stands the test of time.

This is such a simple thing that becomes oh so important when you've lost it. Thanks to B&H for selling it separately from the 501 head. It arrived undamaged, and quite satisfactory; just like everything else I've ever ordered from B&H.
