Product Highlights
  • For Canon APS-C Format Compact DSLRs
  • f/2.8 Aperture throughout Zoom Range
  • Ultra Wide Angle Zoom
  • One-Touch Focus Clutch Mechanism
  • 9-Blade Aperture Diaphragm

The Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X 116 Pro DX Lens is an ultra wide angle, short zoom range lens specifically designed for use with Canon APS-C digital SLR cameras. The slightly shorter zoom range of this lens over the popular and award winning 12-24mm lens makes it possible to maintain optical quality even at wide-open apertures. This lens features a fast constant aperture of f/2.8, and provides a focal length equivalent to 17-25mm in 35mm format.

As part of the AT-X line, this lens is designed to provide excellent optical quality, and offers advanced features like the WR (Water Repellent) front element, its One-touch Focus Clutch Mechanism, that allows the photographer to switch between AF and MF simply by snapping the focus ring forward for AF and back toward the camera to focus manually (there is no second AF/MF switch on the lens for Canon, everything is accomplished by the focus ring), and a 9-bladed aperture. This is an excellent lens for short closeup photography.

WR Coating
WR (Water Repellent) coating made of a special compound has been applied to the front surface of the lens through the use of a unique evaporation process. As a result, the lens offers excellent water- and oil-repellent performance and makes for easier cleaning should the lens be accidentally smeared with fingerprints or cosmetics.
One Touch Focus Clutch Mechanism
The One Touch Focus Clutch Mechanism allows for fast and easy switching between manual and auto focus from any position. This improvement means that it is not necessary to change the AF/MF switch (on the body with Nikon or the lens with Canon) every time the lens is changed from auto focus to manual focus mode.
9-Blade Aperture
The rounded diaphragm opening (9 blades) makes out-of-focus elements appear more natural.

I originally purchased this lens for real estate work. The ultra wide angle and the fast 2.8 aperture were ideal for capturing the tight shooting conditions that homes have to offer. Little did I know upon purchasing this lens, I would be using it for more than real estate. Having it in my bag at a motocross shoot, I decided to give a shot. Motocross isn't the easiest sport to shoot considering the fast paced action. Paired with a 7D I was a amazed at how quickly and accurately this lens focused for being a 3rd party lens. Not only did the focus outperform expectations, I was delighted with the color, everything popped, which is ideal when you capture landscape, sky and the rider. I have a also used this lens for many mountain bike shoots only to be impressed with similar results. The construction is different than Canon brand lenses, but it still feels just as durable. The only noticeable characteristic that some may consider a con is the autofocus noise. It is noticeable, but not enough to turn down this performance lens. It is nearly half the price of a Canon brand equivalent, so I never expected it to be on par with the name brand yet it performs and keeps performing. The switch between autofocus is neat and convenient. To engage autofocus, you simply push the focus ring toward the front of the lens and to engage manual focus you pull it toward the camera body. If you are looking for an ultra wide on a budget, this is the way to go! So impressed that this lens is always mounted to either of my bodies because I always find a use for it.

I spent HOURS trying to decide between this and the Canon 10-22. I wanted the sharpest lens in this price bracket. I first got the Canon and got sharpness similar to my normal zoom lens (18-200mm). I was hoping for better so I ordered the Tokina 11-16 and did a side by side comparison at 11mm and 16mm at 3.5 and 4.5 respectivly. The center sharpness was about the same, but the edges on the Tokina shot were ridiculously soft. No comparison. I wish I had back all the time I wasted on considering this lens.

Also the Tokina is considerably heavier and the zoom ring rotates the reverse directions that Canon users are used to.

I love this lens, it's been on my camera ever since it came out of the box. I have used it mostly for my night photography and it's incredible not really anything bad about it other than it is a bit on the heavy side. I would and have recommended it to my photography friends.

The only complaint is that the build feels a bit cheap but for the price its an amazing lens. Perfect for my 60d's frame. The focus ring doubles as the switch for auto/manual focus which is a cool design but I think it could be executed slightly better. I love it though and it adds a much needed wide angle to my glass collection.

I'm a landscape photographer and I would like to recommend this producto to anyone (Professionals and Amateurs)Don't take the newest version of this lens because there's the II version. This one is made of metal. It's better. Thanks for your time and be sure to add this lens to your equipment, you won't regret as I did.

This is a great wide angle lens for both photography and video use. I am very pleased with the quality of the images and the build quality of this lens. My only issues is with the auto focus and manual focus switch on the lens itself. It is a little weird and find myself sometimes moving it in and out of manual/auto focus unintentionally. Other than that I would highly recommend this lens to anybody shooting with a crop sensor camera.

Comments about Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X 116 Pro DX Autofocus Lens for Canon APS-C DSLRs:

I bought this lens for aurora and landscaping pics. It's very easy to use. I have not removed the lens hood yet because I have not figured out how to do it. I feel like I may break something if I do. I'll keep it on, since I heard that wide angle lenses tend to have glares if you remove the hood. Switching from manual to auto focus is super easy. I'm really happy with my purchase.

If you're looking for a wide view and good low light performance this is it. The F2.8 aperture gives this a big lead on most other wide lenses. Though it is a tad heavy, it's a small compromise for the quality that this lens will give you.

I use this lens not only for photography but mainly for DSLR video. Works beautifully! It is a bit noisy but that really doesn't effect me in any way. It doesn't flare bad at all and it doesn't distort my images. It's focus speed is adequate but I only use auto focus to lock in on subject then I switch it to MF. For the price, this is a wonderful wide angle lens.

Comments about Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X 116 Pro DX Autofocus Lens for Canon APS-C DSLRs:
